( At first, she can't see the girl. Some bushes have obscured her from view, and for all Lagertha knows, she is in truth a wolf, or even a bear. This explains why she doesn't immediately cross the meadow and venture headlong into the thicket, because that would be stupid. So she circles around, trying to get downwind of what she still very much perceives to be a predator—seeing as the boar ran off like its tamer brethren, squealing in fear.

Her footfalls are light upon the soft earth, but not soundless. Not like they would be back home, on terrain she would be much more familiar and comfortable with. For all her training, she is not at an advantage here. And it shows upon her face when she clears through some bushes (their thorns tug at her skirts annoyingly) to come face-to-back with another person.

Seelie or Unseelie, it makes no difference to her. This war has nothing to do with her. But nevertheless, this is wholly unexpected. )

You're clumsy. ( And thus, first introductions are made! She glances in the direction the boar headed off in, nodding. ) Come with me and I'll show you the right way to do it.

( Maybe, she just might share the meat once they catch it, too. )

[Loki Laufeyson. That doesn't sound at all British and it was not what she was expecting from this nicely dressed young man. This truly is a strange place. She appreciates his help though, and his proper manners.]

Lady Mary Crawley. I'm pleased to meet you, Mr. Laufeyson. Tell me, where do you originate from?

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-01-11 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
( No further sound emerges from the brush for some time. Lagertha, however, remains in position. With her shield gripped firmly in her left hand and the spear in her right, she is well-armed for a fight, whether it be with an animal or another person. There is a stillness in the air, a distinct lack of birdsong and the chirping of insects which indicates strongly to her senses that something (or someone) is out there. Whichever it is, she definitely isn't alone. Now, she can either attempt to flank them or circle around behind until she is downwind and strike then.

But she errs on the side of caution, knowing full-well that she doesn't know this terrain well in the slightest. One misstep could see her in any number of situations she'd much rather avoid. Patience tends to pay off anyway. That is definitely true now, as she can just barely hear something move ahead of her; a rustling of leaves, the smell of fresh earth rising in the air. She pushes her spear forward, taking on a position by which to more effectively defend herself—

and is faced with both the last and the best person she might ever hope to be trapped in this place with. The breath leaves her lungs in a long gush of air, ghosting before her in the cold stillness of the forest. Lagertha could smile. She could laugh. Hell, she might even be forgiven for running straight into his arms and laying one on him. All of these and more certainly are tempting. But what she ends up doing? Well, it involves running, certainly.

However, she runs at him like a woman going to war, and she only drops her weapons (smartly, she thinks) when she is within a four foot radius of him. Then, she takes a leap at him, a flying tackle that would leave lesser men senseless. Not him, though. Lagertha is counting on it. Her fist rises in the air, aimed dead-staright at his gut, a smack she thinks he well-deserves. )

You made me lose my prey! ( Her words are hissed from between clenched teeth, pride causing her to tip her chin up and the weak sunlight filtering through the canopy to catch and flash in her eyes. She is.. so very relieved to see him here. The priest must be with their children, she assures herself of this.

Which is why she feels quite justified in another attempt to hit him. He can take it, right? Or he can turn it around on her, like he tends to enjoy doing so much. Either way, she can't complain. They'll catch that bloody board and find their way home. Nothing is impossible when they're together. )
enjoymyatelier: it totally was. (that wasn't awkward at all nope)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-11 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah, really?" said Kayneth, cocking his head. "We must definitely be of different worlds, then, because where I'm from, witches are more of a different discipline of magic rather than separate from humans. That... sounds really fascinating, actually."

...ah there he went, being a nerd...

"...I should clarify that I'm a prominent scholar of magic where I'm from, which should explain things."

He's adorable!

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-01-11 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
( It's.. a bird! It's a plane! No, actually, it's a priest. Since when did it start raining Christian clergymen? Lagertha glances up at the canopy with a raised eyebrow, but says nothing about the perils of climbing anything while climbing trees in a skirt. It's an art.

There's the off-chance that he might be armed, so she takes no chances. Her spear is stuck by the hilt in the earth, but she keeps her shield handy for her journey across the thicket. Once she reaches Brendan's side, she offers a hand to him in silence. )

Hunting?

( She asks innocently, eyebrows still raised. Nah. Maybe birdwatching? )

Nor can I! And this is beautiful, I must say.

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-01-11 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
( Kings and Queens, she gets. Fae, not so much. Magic? Even less. But when he mentions raiding, her mouth curves into a full-on smirk. )

Raiding happens to be my speciality. And if ships are hard to come by, maybe ship builders might not.

( Ever the optimist! That's her. And she laughs, amused by the flirtation. Subtlety, thy name is not Damon Salvatore. )

Married. ( She's just having some fun, though. ) But sometimes people call me Lagertha, as well.
withbite: (Smile - 3)

Let him flirt with you, Lagertha. Vampires do it better than Vikings.

[personal profile] withbite 2015-01-11 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Does it? You'll have to tell me all about your specialty. There might be builders around here. Or you could just steal one of the boats, if you've got a crew.

[He likes the laugh, smiling back at her and giving her a wink. No, subtly and him aren't friends.]

Lagertha. Interesting name. Marriage has never stopped me before. Unless your husband's arrived with you. Then we'll just have to be extra sneaky.
illuminatingbrendan: (02)

i'd been hoping he'd meet someone from Vikings.

[personal profile] illuminatingbrendan 2015-01-11 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
No. [brendan shakes his head as he accepts the hand up. his hands are scraped, his clothes are torn and his face is dirty, but he's unhurt. eleven year olds can be resilient like that, even after falling rather impressive distances out of trees.]

I was just climbing.

[does there need to be a reason?]

IT'S OKAY I've edited for like one comma before... or less...

[personal profile] babbylon 2015-01-11 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Gilgamesh couldn't care less for details or for excuses. But after a time of simply staring into his locket, as if he were assessing the man at the gallows instead of from the floor, he declares:]

By the grace and glory of my crown, I pardon you, in all your helplessness and misery.

[But just in case Sinuhe thought that entitled him to kindness...]

Do not forget yourself around me again, mongrel. Learn well from this lesson.

[...there's another reminder that it wasn't.]
lyorning: (amused)

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-11 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[long enough to know that not everyone is going to respond appropriately; he gives a slight smile at seeing the courtesies observed]

Not long at all. And yourself?
psalmed: (devious)

[personal profile] psalmed 2015-01-11 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, I only just arrived myself. Do you find it favorable thus far?

[Even if he's hardly had time to gather up much of an impression. First impressions are important, aren't they?]
bindsthedead: (Art-Notice; Almost a smile)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2015-01-11 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's a title given to the head of my family. The Abhorsen is tasked with keeping the Dead from rising, as well as dealing with Free Magic spirits, necromancers, and other sorcerers who use forbidden magic. [Which is probably rather unbelievable to Mary, but she'll just have to get used to the magic. It's everywhere in this world.]

Idk, doesn't he know it's true love when he has a chair thrown at him?

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-01-11 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
I could. Or you could volunteer to be part of my crew and experience it for yourself. Stealing a boat isn't the problem. Sailing it without a sunstone or crew, however...

( She trails off, still amused on the whole. Why not? A long sailing trip could always benefit from a sense of humour. )

Do you know what it means? ( Marriage hasn't stopped her, either. Technically speaking. ) Unless you might wish to join us. We made the offer to a man once, but he found the Christian holy book far more enthralling.
lyorning: (Default)

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-11 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Given my situation when I was approached, I could hardly find it disfavorable.

Hopefully the first impression is a good one.

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-01-11 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
( He's about her son's age. Never let it be said that she would ever underestimate the capability of any boy over the age of ten. As it is, he is bouncing back impressively from the fall he's taken.

A tough kid. And an admirable resilience. )

Did you see anything interesting up there?

( Other than dinner running off in the opposite direction, anyhow. Lagertha eyes him quickly, looking for signs of injury. Thankfully, it looks like he'll be bruised at worst. )

[Sinuhe was raised in a world of strict order and hierarchy. Just as he is naturally higher than a slave or a peasant, so there are men placed above him by the will of heaven. The fact that Gilgamesh is a) unknown to him or b) talking to him through magical means instead of being in his immediate presence doesn't change anything. If anything, the inclusion of obvious magic helps the aura of power the other man puts off.

As he's already sitting it doesn't take much more for him to bend forward until he is prostrate with his forehead touching the ground and arms placed at his sides. It is only the proper form of respect for kings and gods alike and he doesn't necessarily find it degrading. Besides, the gesture can't hurt.]

My lord is both wise and gracious, and I do not deserve his favor.

He prefers having her thrown at him. =)

[personal profile] withbite 2015-01-11 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
Now what is a sunstone and why would you need one to sail a boat?

[Sorry, Lagertha. He came from the mystical future. Computers did everything.]

Can't say I do. And clearly the man and his bible were stupid. I might wish to join, but I'd have to see the other half, first. Or maybe steal you away for a night or two.

[He obligingly takes the locket, turning it over in his hands curiously for a moment before looking at some of the posts - for a few seconds, anyway. It takes about that long for what exactly's just been said to sink in. When it does, however, his head pops up sharply, and he looks at Diarmuid, his eyebrows arching and disappearing into his bangs.]

A boon? Is that what I think it is?

[He knows the stories, after all, and boons can be important things. Possibly powerful ones, too, unless it's different here than in the tales he's heard of as a youth.]

Three empty nests and a hole with two owls in it.

[two owls, after all, clearly being so much better than only seeing one. she's a strange woman, unlike any he'd ever seen before at kells, but that fact doesn't seem to make him cautious in the slightest. if anything it just makes him more curious and more inclined to chatter if given the chance.]

There might have been more further up, but I slipped and...

[he trails off, looking down at his sandal clad feet. one of the straps got torn in the fall when it snagged on a branch. a monk's habit might be simple, but it isn't the best for exploring.]

Usually I try not to come down so fast.

[ Short, she knows. Scrawny actually has Alice scowling. She likes to think she's far from it and she's slowly regained weight she needed. ]

Believe me, I do. Where I come from, we didn't have more than one meals or feasts. It would be a waste of food otherwise.

[personal profile] getinthechariot 2015-01-11 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed he is! It's been several years for him, since he saw either of us.

Although he seems to be about twice as tall as he was before!

If you are thinking about powerful rewards for services rendered or deeds done, then yes, they are exactly what you think they are.

[Diarmuid gestures out to the hall around them.]

You are probably going to find that a lot of things here will remind you of the stories from your home. For me, it is quite a bit like coming home, but do be wary. Just because a lot seems like home or the stories of old, doesn't always mean it is.

[And the Fae, both Seelie and Unseelie are just as tricky as the stories say they are.]

[It's rude to ask but he did bring it up.]

Your situation? Was it quite dire when you were taken?

[personal profile] getinthechariot 2015-01-11 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, our lockets function more as a regular phone does. But the modern cell phones are far more than simple communication devices!

[For someone from ancient Greece, Iskander loves modern technology. Ever since discovering video games, he's been something of a fanboy]

Nowadays, they access the internet, play games, and serve as a calendar and planner. Were I back in the modern world, I'd certainly have one now.

Does cockiness get a free pass? Unless that's how you usually endear yourself to strangers.

[what can he say, he thinks it's kind of funny. at her question, he shakes his head.]

Not so far, but I haven't been here for long. Barely a day, if that. [that, and he's been more interested in trying to find his own familiar faces. it's a bad time to be antisocial.] Your human friends— What are their names? I could ask around, if you'd like.
