[the horse's scent is the first thing Bigby picks up, and while it's by far not the most unique animal smell he's taken in during his hike, it's definitely enough to raise some interest over the possibilities it brings. it could be wild, sure; nothing strange about that. however, experience and common sense dictate that, a good eight out of ten times, they usually aren't, unless the rider has a damn good reason to leave them behind. say, if they dismounted to look for something and got lost; or if they injured the horse and walking the rest of the way was the only practical solution they could come to; or—
from somewhere not too far behind Bigby, leaves gently rustle, the force that bends them a little too hard and fleeting to be the wind. —or if they're hunting something. it's hard to turn your lips into the flattest, most deadpan line possible when you have a muzzle to work with, but damn if he doesn't try.
his ears prickle and his pace slows long enough for him to sense the presence behind him, but he doesn't stop. the last thing he wants to get into is a fight, and while it may be unavoidable given his current state, the least he can do is not be the one to provoke it. that and whoever-it-is might have enough of a brain not to attack something clearly out of their depth; that would be nice.
