Alistair hadn't been king very long, but now he was uprooted and standing in the court of some other king. It was exactly the sort of thing he should have expected to happen. No doubt his fellow Warden would be furious with him for disappearing on the eve of the big battle. Much as he tried to justify himself that one man wouldn't make a difference, he couldn't convince himself that all would be well. Yet no matter how many times he asked, he was told the king and queen wouldn't be making an appearance.
So he shuffled in his heavy armor and ate, because he couldn't deny being hungry. He might be troubled, but it hadn't sapped his sense of humor and he couldn't deny the music wasn't catchy. However as he moved around the room, he would usually begin his conversations the same way. "So. How does one get himself returned to his own world?"

"I tell you, I'm a king. Really." Alistair pleaded uselessly, as he discovered that his money purse had a hole in it only after finishing his meal.
"You ain't the first king we've had here, mate." The pig-faced landlord stared down Alistair with an unfriendly look. "Now you pay up, lad, or we'll find other ways to get coin from you."
"I'm good for the money," Alistair explained yet again. "I'll just need to go pick it up. At Caer Glaem."
But the landlord was unimpressed, nor was the barwench who had been trying to convince Alistair all throughout his meal to explore some of the other services offered by the Sweet Sow. Dismayed at the thought of having to give up his armor or sword, Alistair was on the verge of offering to wash dishes. Provided no one else was keen to come to his rescue.
