[ Isabelle Lightwood likes to think she's well-versed in the politics of the Seelie court, at least more than most Shadowhunters who learned everything they know from a book. from lessons. she knows there's nothing more frowned upon than refusing a summoning from the Queen herself but it's not until after she's followed peculiar looking fairies into their kingdom that she's started to suspect that this isn't the same royalty somehow. this isn't the Seelie court that she's familiarized with and yet, that doesn't make her feel any more relaxed. fairies are the most cunning of all the Downworlders and while she has grace and courtesy when she wants it, knows how to utilize her looks, she isn't either one of her brothers. she isn't Jace especially and she can't be that effortlessly charming.
she almost wishes ( just for a second ) that the ruby pendant around her throat was pulsing. demons are the kind of evil she almost prefers to deal with. fairies are less predictable. that's actually the only thing that can be predicted about them.
but she's still smart enough not to consume anything. ] Thanks, but I'm going to have to politely decline. [ she dismisses a servant less carelessly than she might under normal circumstances, understanding how cornered she might actually be. if she doesn't eat something from their world, then maybe she won't belong here. maybe things will make sense like all the talk about these stupid shards don't. she immediately longs for Alec and all his attention to detail. he knows everything, she recalls, both with respect and irritation. he'd know how to get out of here. When the Clave hears about this, she starts and stops, because she has to wonder if they will.
she sighs and puts on her brave face, deciding that if she's going to get to the bottom of anything she's going to have to stop standing on the sidelines. besides, it's a shame to waste a perfectly good party. ]
