[ They'd met at least once before, maybe a few times more. Meetings had to be rare, though. Opal was decidedly not Unseelie, while her grandmother decidedly was. And, well - it wasn't too well thought of to mingle with the enemy. Not that Opal is really good at thinking of Toph as the enemy. Or anyone else, yet - this war is not hers, and it's hard to think of it that way right now. Even when it starts to settle in, Opal's never going to be able to think of her grandmother as an enemy.

Even a younger version like this. Even though her grandmother has been known to toss rocks at her grandchildren (the ones who can bend; Opal hadn't quite been a target the last time she'd seen her grandmother in person back home).

Toph's the first one to the meeting place, even though Opal made the best time she could in the air; when she spots her not-quite-grandmother practicing, she touches down nearby, and leans against a tree to watch her work. She's always liked watching her family earthbend; while Opal had never been able to bend earth, it had been calming to watch them practice. Toph's style is different from Suyin's, but Opal can see the basis of her mother's art in this. Wei and Wing are more similar to Toph in style, really - it's funny.

She'll wait until Toph reaches a point where she looks like she can be interrupted, if Toph doesn't say hi first. ]

Hey. I brought sandwiches, if you want some.

[metalbends]

[ toph knows opal is there when she touches down, but she doesn't stop practicing just yet - even granddaughters have to wait for earthbending. not that...toph really thinks of opal as her granddaughter. nope. no. she's more than happy to just tiptoe around everything associated with that fact for now. hey, there are reasons she's been throwing herself extra hard into her practice lately.

but she can't earthbend forever, and strange relations aside, if opal brought food... ]

Oh, hey. [ totally casual, right? totally casual. ] Sure. What kind?

[ Hey, it's not like Opal can blame her grandmother for being weirded out by a grandchild older than her. And...well, children. The idea of. If she had met a girl from the future claiming to be her grandchild, Opal could relate.

But she was a Beifong, and pretending otherwise seemed...silly. Even if Opal's willing to never bring it up and call Toph "Toph" rather than grandmother. Regardless of that, Opal wants to get to know the original metalbender, and she's taking it as slow and easy as she can so as not to, well. Spook Toph or get rocks thrown at her. EITHER OR. ]

I grabbed a selection from the kitchens, but - vegetarian for me, meat for you?

[metalbends]

[ sigh, vegetarian. she just had to be an airbender, didn't she. her progeny. ]

You betcha. But I'd eat anything as long as it doesn't have weird fairy magic in it.

[airflows]

[ Well, she almost definitely ate meat before becoming an airbender. Opal doesn't usually miss it too much. She'd always liked things like kale, so being a vegetarian wasn't too bad. ]

I made sure to grab non-fairy magic sandwiches! Promise.

[ Because, well. Duh. ]

Sooo. Have you met Korra and her friends yet?

[ Casually setting up impromptu picnic as she talks ]

[ and toph will...not-so-helpfully bend up two earth-chairs and flops down in one of them, leaning back with her hands behind her head. ]

Yeah. [ she says flippantly. like she's not bothered about the whole korra-being-the-avatar-means-aang-is-dead implication. ] They're alright. Not as great as our Team Avatar, but hey. You can't win 'em all.
