[Politics aren't exactly his thing, but he's not stupid either. Being in m war means monarchs pull this kind of stuff, right?
Eyes widen a little before he stands up and returns the bow a bit awkwardly - man, it really is like being in a medieval story, isn't it?] I'm David Stutler, from... New York. It's a pleasure, but yeah, I can't say I know that name, no. Sorry.

[ Faramir smiles back ]
Well met, David Stutler! I suppose we will both have to be unfamiliar with each other, for I have not heard of New York before either, alas. You are as new here as I then?
no subject
[Probably some kind of knight, Dave guesses, and he can't help wondering why the monarchs didn't bring more men like this one instead of dorks like himself. Surely they would serve their needs better.
At least he's friendly and just the right amount of serious, and Dave finds himself smiling too.] Yeah, it's the whole different worlds thing. [A vague gesture of his hand goes with that before nodding.] I arrived yesterday, for the feast. I'm trying to learn some stuff before throwing myself out there.
[And trying to lay low, because considering the room he got, he feels people are gonna expect things from him.]
no subject
[ A shake of his head ] Different worlds! It is still a strange concept for me, in truth, and I have been here not that much longer than you. Tis always wise to seek knowledge before one goes to war.
no subject
[Despite the subject of war, he can't help chuckling at that. It really feels like being in a movie, with the shock culture in place and he's the guy that has to do the explanations. He never thought he'd find himself like this one day.] Where I from, the theory of multiple universes is common, and used a lot in fiction. I thought I could find some information about the magic they used tot ravel between them here, but it's mostly history and poetry.

I dislike how arbritary some of these choices seem also - I saw children, at the feast! [ a sigh and he shakes his head ] But it seems this is the path fate has chosen for us, in any case.
Truly? Have you travelled before yourself then?
no subject
[He isn't the biggest fan of fate after everything that happened with the Morganians, but he can agree with Faramir's ideas, and so he nods.] At least I hope they won't push us to fight just because...
Ah, no, I haven't. They were only theories, scientists never went beyond thinking about the concept. I guess that makes me the official tester for my world, but it's not like I can send them a message to tell them "hey guys, congrats on being right!".
no subject
Nay! Do not apologise - no insult was meant, and none taken.
[ sobering ] I, as well, although considering the manner of trickery by which they draw us here, I do not trust overly to that hope.
'It is not wrong to hope for the best' my father said once, 'but always be prepared for the worst'. [ a shrug ] We were at war, however, and so could not afford to be over-trusting.
[ a smile at that ] If you succeed in finding such a route home you will be in high demand I think - I am fortunate, I have friends here - but I think many would like to be able to write home if they cannot yet return!

The quote has him smiling again, a feeling of nostalgia taking over.] Your dad sounds like my master. Always reminding me that I need to be ready for whatever the world may throw at me.
[
Congrats on being compared to Nicolas Cage, Denethor. After finally closing the book in front of him, Dave sighs and rubs his face a couple of times.]Yeah, well, as much as I'd love to play e-mail provider for everyone, it's not happening any time soon. There's nothing about it in here, not even a mention of its existence. I don't know what kind of magic they use to make it happen, but they're probably keeping it for themselves.
no subject
LOL][ Faramir smiles a little wistfully ] Your master sounds like a wise man. Long have I lived by my father's words and they have not yet led me astray.
[ a sigh ] In truth, it would surprise me greatly if there was. As many of us came willing I think there are also many unwilling, and I doubt me they would leave a means for their soldiers to find their way home out in the open.
no subject
[There is a bit of new information there, and Dave tilts his head as curiosity takes over.] What-- what do you mean unwilling? Wasn't everyone brought here by the fairies? Oh boy, did they kidnap people?
no subject
Unwilling, or here on false pretences, perhaps! I have spoken to many, and they say the opposing court are not asked, but taken, and even I came here unknowing of what they were actually asking.
no subject
[They're all screwed, yup. What comes next only makes him more sure of that, and he hides his face on his hands as he shakes his head.] I can't believe I'd ever say this but-- we actually got lucky with the fairies, didn't we?
no subject
[ a wry twist and he puts a hand on Dave's shoulder comfortingly ] Comparatively? Aye, I would say so - if luck you call it!
