Dangerous or just stuff they don't want us to know...

[Politics aren't exactly his thing, but he's not stupid either. Being in m war means monarchs pull this kind of stuff, right?

Eyes widen a little before he stands up and returns the bow a bit awkwardly - man, it really is like being in a medieval story, isn't it?]
I'm David Stutler, from... New York. It's a pleasure, but yeah, I can't say I know that name, no. Sorry.

Things they do not want us to know are dangerous too, if in a slightly different fashion. I would doubt they keep such material in their own castle, but perhaps there are things that have been forgotten - it would not be the first time such things have happened.

[ Faramir smiles back ]

Well met, David Stutler! I suppose we will both have to be unfamiliar with each other, for I have not heard of New York before either, alas. You are as new here as I then?

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-11 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
You... you sound like you have experience with that.

[Probably some kind of knight, Dave guesses, and he can't help wondering why the monarchs didn't bring more men like this one instead of dorks like himself. Surely they would serve their needs better.

At least he's friendly and just the right amount of serious, and Dave finds himself smiling too.]
Yeah, it's the whole different worlds thing. [A vague gesture of his hand goes with that before nodding.] I arrived yesterday, for the feast. I'm trying to learn some stuff before throwing myself out there.

[And trying to lay low, because considering the room he got, he feels people are gonna expect things from him.]

[ A wry smile ] It was not that long ago that things were found in the archives of Minas Tirith that most had all forgotten were there, words which set into motion the final steps of our war. So I suppose you could say that, aye!

[ A shake of his head ] Different worlds! It is still a strange concept for me, in truth, and I have been here not that much longer than you. Tis always wise to seek knowledge before one goes to war.

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-11 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
So you are like... fitting for this place. I know they gave us all that shards speech, but some of their choices are just... weird.

[Despite the subject of war, he can't help chuckling at that. It really feels like being in a movie, with the shock culture in place and he's the guy that has to do the explanations. He never thought he'd find himself like this one day.] Where I from, the theory of multiple universes is common, and used a lot in fiction. I thought I could find some information about the magic they used tot ravel between them here, but it's mostly history and poetry.

[ Faramir laughs a little ] I would not say that! I would much rather be home with my lady, enjoying the fruits of our labor, then fighting yet another war!

I dislike how arbritary some of these choices seem also - I saw children, at the feast! [ a sigh and he shakes his head ] But it seems this is the path fate has chosen for us, in any case.

Truly? Have you travelled before yourself then?

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-12 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[And that laughter embarrasses DAve, who hurries to shake his head and hands.] Nonono, I didn't mean you wanted this, I mean, who would? I just meant that... [Why does he even try top cover his own awkwardness? He hangs his head.] Nothing. Sorry.

[He isn't the biggest fan of fate after everything that happened with the Morganians, but he can agree with Faramir's ideas, and so he nods.] At least I hope they won't push us to fight just because...

Ah, no, I haven't. They were only theories, scientists never went beyond thinking about the concept. I guess that makes me the official tester for my world, but it's not like I can send them a message to tell them "hey guys, congrats on being right!".

[ Faramir only smiles and shakes his head ]

Nay! Do not apologise - no insult was meant, and none taken.

[ sobering ] I, as well, although considering the manner of trickery by which they draw us here, I do not trust overly to that hope.

'It is not wrong to hope for the best' my father said once, 'but always be prepared for the worst'. [ a shrug ] We were at war, however, and so could not afford to be over-trusting.

[ a smile at that ] If you succeed in finding such a route home you will be in high demand I think - I am fortunate, I have friends here - but I think many would like to be able to write home if they cannot yet return!

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-12 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Faramir is really nice and even has a sense of humor, it makes it easier for Dave to forget he's talking to some knight-ish guy and relax a bit.

The quote has him smiling again, a feeling of nostalgia taking over.]
Your dad sounds like my master. Always reminding me that I need to be ready for whatever the world may throw at me.

[Congrats on being compared to Nicolas Cage, Denethor. After finally closing the book in front of him, Dave sighs and rubs his face a couple of times.]

Yeah, well, as much as I'd love to play e-mail provider for everyone, it's not happening any time soon. There's nothing about it in here, not even a mention of its existence. I don't know what kind of magic they use to make it happen, but they're probably keeping it for themselves.

[ LOL ]

[ Faramir smiles a little wistfully ]
Your master sounds like a wise man. Long have I lived by my father's words and they have not yet led me astray.

[ a sigh ] In truth, it would surprise me greatly if there was. As many of us came willing I think there are also many unwilling, and I doubt me they would leave a means for their soldiers to find their way home out in the open.

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-12 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, wise, very strict and with more rules that one person can remember... [A pause while he realizes he actually misses Balthazar.] ...but he's still a great man.

[There is a bit of new information there, and Dave tilts his head as curiosity takes over.] What-- what do you mean unwilling? Wasn't everyone brought here by the fairies? Oh boy, did they kidnap people?
theywhowait: (faithful steward)

[personal profile] theywhowait 2014-11-13 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
[ A chuckle ] He sounds much like my father, aye! Denethor was great and wise but stern and to some, perhaps, cold and harsh - although he became more so with time. War will do that, sadly, and he had much on his mind and little support.

Unwilling, or here on false pretences, perhaps! I have spoken to many, and they say the opposing court are not asked, but taken, and even I came here unknowing of what they were actually asking.

[personal profile] dragonring 2014-11-13 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
[He sighs as he rubs the back of his neck, remembering what his master had to go through for centuries because some dumb fighting.] War... has that effect on people, doesn't it? And all those civilians they brought..

[They're all screwed, yup. What comes next only makes him more sure of that, and he hides his face on his hands as he shakes his head.] I can't believe I'd ever say this but-- we actually got lucky with the fairies, didn't we?
theywhowait: (Default)

[personal profile] theywhowait 2014-11-13 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
It does. [ Faramir nods, quiet and solemn ] And yet it is sometimes a necessity, also. I have yet to be convinced it is, here.

[ a wry twist and he puts a hand on Dave's shoulder comfortingly ] Comparatively? Aye, I would say so - if luck you call it!
