[ Again that shy duck of his head ] You honor me lord, and I am glad to bring you a little comfort.
[ but... ]
Is it truly repentance, if I would do it again? [ He says softly, for he would do it again and again, if it kept his family safe ]
no subject
he hesitates, fingers lifting and hovering there, like nervous white birds, before settling on maglor's again, pressing them warmly. ]
I suppose that would depend on why you'd do it, doesn't it? [ he leans in, trying to catch the elf's eye. ] It clearly wouldn't bring you pleasure. So.. what would drive you to repeat your sins?
no subject
My oath. [ he says softly ] My family. [ I would dash myself to pieces, if it kept my family safe ] My brother.
no subject
I understand. I think we'd all do what we had to for our family. I have a brother that I love very much, too. He's always taken care of me. And.. you know-- [ his fingers twitch, then slide away, teeth catching at his lower lip. ] --I'm not.. not so unstained as you think, myself. I've done things that I regret, too.
no subject
I cannot imagine that lord, of one so bright as you.

[ Shy, but still firm ]
I am sorry lord, I did not mean to raise painful memories. But if, as you say, you do not remember, how then can you be held accountable?
no subject
[ his gaze drops once more, touch gentle against wounds that look as if they haven't entirely healed. ]
.. How did this happen?
no subject
[ A quiet shrug ] That is how I see it, at any rate.
[ fingers twitch a little and Maglor's voice adopts the sing-song of the storyteller ]
Once, there was a Light that was more than a Light, and a gemsmith captured it, gold and silver and more, in three priceless jewels. They were stolen, and the gemsmith swore an Oath to reclaim them, whatsoe'er the cost, and his sons swore the same. Through war and blood and the slaughter of kin two of the jewels came at last to the hands of the last of his sons. But soaked in blood as they were, the jewels rejected them, for such a light was never meant to be touched by unclean hands.
no subject
.. I see. [ his voice sounds thick when he speaks, as if he's scant moments from crying-- and indeed, his eyes do seem a little overbright, lashes damp. ] Oh, Maglor.. you've been through a lot, haven't you?
no subject
Nothing that I did not bring on myself. [ a shaky breath and he manages to pull himself together enough to smile a little ]
Do not weep for me, lord. For you see? You act unknowing and unwilling, and in that, I think, you do better than I.
no subject
I'm sorry, I can't help it. Loki calls me a weepy princess. [ he huffs, shaking his head. ] Though Loki teases me a lot about everything, really.
[ a careful breath, making certain he's calm, before glancing back up, expression soft and a little wistful. ]
You ought to stay here, then, you know. I mean, it would be a good way to start over.
no subject
Is Loki the friend you spoke of earlier?
[ a shrug ] There is nothing left for me at home.
no subject
[ he presses his hands to his face to hide his blush. ]
.. Not to mention that I'm actually very clumsy, so I have a tendency of spraining my ankle or-- or falling on things or cutting myself or any number of other accidents.
no subject
The very best of friends, it sounds like. I am glad you have such joy in your life, lord, and I grieve that you must be sundered from them here.
no subject
[ he lowers his hands, curling them under his thighs absently, smile returning. ]
But-- But anyway, so you've decided to stay here. Have you been here long already? Do you.. have family or friends here?
no subject
Not long. [ for an elf ] Perhaps some six or seven months, I would guess. I have... found friends here yes. And the vagaries of this place have brought to me kin and family, beyond all hope. But... I wish it not so. [ softly ] I wish it not so, for I would spare them this.
