[Sigrid grins and orders five yards of the green wool. Such a luxury it is, to order enough for a coat with plenty to spare! Perhaps with the rest she will make him a hood or leggings.]

You'll be less scruffy with a new coat, [she teases him.] And I'll make you clothes fit for Sansa's court, and others for working. You know Sansa will give you a job in a moment--she's the Lady Keeper here, and my best friend.

What use would I have for court clothing? I'm only a bargeman. [ And formerly the captain of the Esgaroth archers, but that's over and done with now. No use crying over things that can't be changed, right? ]

Suppose I'm decent enough at minding children and hauling things about. Make enough to keep a roof over our heads, aye?
kingsdaughter: (The prison of my person)

No, Da--I have it all in hand. [Oh, it is a wonderful thing, to be able to tell her father to rest himself, for she can take care of him!] I'm actually quite rich now. I came into a great deal of wealth very early and I've invested much of it. I mean, I still work for Sansa and she pays enough for everyday expenses, but I've enough kept away that we'll never have a leaky roof or shoes falling apart ever.

How did you come into wealth?

[ Overprotective father powers activate. There are all sorts of unsavory people who would take advantage of a girl Sigrid's age, so Bard casts a prayer to every Power he's heard of that the inheritance was ... safe. Times like these, he really misses his wife. She'd know what to say, what questions to ask. ]

This Sansa. She's a respectable woman?
kingsdaughter: (Dad what about the hobbit yes or no)

A reward for favors to the monarchs, applied judiciously.

Sansa is good. Like a lady out of a story, the kind I was sure weren't real till I was faced with her. She's prone to melancholy, and I think at least half of it is she's always mourning for other peoples' misfortunes and how terrible she must be for being more fortunate. But she's clever, too, fiendish clever. She's the kind we want on our side, promise.
