Anger darkened his expression at that and Elros placed his other hand on the opposite cheek. "I will not fight this war, ada." The first time in a while that he used that word. Hearing that his people, that his family had been forced back to opposite sides and to fight each other, and that one of them had been lost...

No. He wanted nothing to do with it.

"Oh my beautiful brave one" Maglor shakes his head but does not refuse the touch.

"You may have no choice. They will promise you anything you desire, and when that fails, they will turn to other means. And I have spoken to Death here - he wears the form of a Black Dog - there is no way to return without winning the war, one way... or another."

A breath. "I need to get you home. You ought not be here."

I would do anything to get you home safely
mortalhalf: (In the wind)

b'awww Maglor

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-14 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
He didn't dismiss the words of experience off-hand, not that it soothed his anger at all. The hands on Maglor's face remain gentle, if firm in staying put. Keeping hold of the older elf as long as he could, now that he had him back. For now.

"Maybe not. If I am given no choice," as in if he was given the choice between killing his own kin and killing others on the opposite side, "I will do what I must. They will not own me."

If it meant leaving and never seeing Maglor again...his heart was torn between what he wanted and what he was needed for. "Does time pass back home while we are here?"
bythewaves: (unexpected fondness)

he loves you lots okay

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-14 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
"That I do not know. There is some argument that there must be something we are missing - drawn as we are from different times, I came from Celegorm's future, as I am from Galadriel's past. Some fall into enchanted sleep, and live centuries in days. The magic here is strange, yonya and I cannot explain it."

He does not move out of Elros' hold, happy to draw comfort this way.

"My bold one. I do not think any could tame you."
mortalhalf: (Eying the situation)

Elros and Elrond have the best dads okay

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-14 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
"If people can be brought from different times, I will content myself to know that we will be returned to our perspective times." Which meant he wouldn't worry as much about having been whisked away as he had been.

"If it turns out false, it will be dealt with then. There seems to be little else we can do."

Finally though, he dropped his hands back to his sides, assured that Maglor wouldn't leave him behind. The anger banked with a wry half smile. "Not without effort and great care." As Maglor and Maedhros learned first hand. How long had he fought them? Even after Elrond had accepted them, he had not.
bythewaves: (corner of my eye)

Elladan disagrees, he reckons his is better

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
A low amused chuff at the memories invoked. "I think only when you let yourself be, hm?"

Soberly. "Alas this is true. But I would have spared you, if I could."
mortalhalf: (Eying the situation)

...Don't make me fight you nephew.

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-14 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
He smirked just a little at the chuff and words. "On a good day," he agreed lightly.

Also sobering, he reached out again and gently tugged on a lock of Maglor's hair - exactly as his bratty childhood self had so very often. "I know. Just as I would spare you this." And so much more.
bythewaves: (unexpected fondness)

But Uncle, don't you think your twin would make a good dad? =D

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-15 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
A smile at the tug, fond and wistful.

"I have suffered nothing I did not call on myself, Elros. There is no need to worry over me, although I thank you for it."
mortalhalf: ask before taking please (Curious)

Yes, but there's only one of him~

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-15 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Just another tug before Elros pulled his hand away again, dropping it back to his side with a rather stubborn frown appearing.

"You keep no worry nor care for yourself, so it is left to others to do so for you." He knew his father, okay.
bythewaves: (hm?)

Oooh, well then. Elros can have the bests DadS, so long as Dan has the best Dad

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-15 01:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That smile broadens and Maglor shakes his head fondly.

"I worry as much as is needful, but I am sure Maedhros will be glad to have another nursemaid to guard me." Gently teasing.

"Thank you, for forgiving me, Elros."
mortalhalf: ask before taking please (Sweet)

...That is acceptable.

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-15 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
The teasing was enough to warrant a sudden laugh and quick grin.

"You may come to regret those words, ada!" Because Elros and Maedhros worrying over a single person? Oh yes. Be afraid, Maglor. Be very afraid.

The grin softened and sobered. "I was very angry with you...until a few minutes ago."
bythewaves: (dad)

Dan thought you might like that Uncle!

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-15 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mm, perhaps, and perhaps not!" It's fine, Elros will have to divide his time between both foster fathers after all.

"I would be surprised if you were not at least a little angry."

Maglor shrugs with a faint smile. "How long has it been for you, Elros?"
mortalhalf: (Thoughts)

XD

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-15 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Since when was that new? Elrond was the twin who'd spent the most time with Maglor, though Elros had stolen his share of Maglor's time.

He nudged the other at the shrug, half amused and half surprised at the gesture. Forgive him for wanting contact, father dearest.

The light in his eyes dimmed a little. "A few decades. My path led me away from Elrond." There. He'd managed to keep his voice level, for all the very words hurt to think, much less say.
bythewaves: (will you look back)

...I now want them to meet somewhere. GUESS I MIGHT THROW DAN AT YOU ON THE FAMILY MEME LATER

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-16 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh Elros." Quiet sympathy and Maglor rests a hand on his foster son's arm.

"I cannot begin to imagine how hard it must have been for the two of you. Elrond when he was here... he was from far later. He was happy, Elros. He misses you, but he was happy. Are you?"
mortalhalf: (In the wind)

>D YES, GOOD.

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-16 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Elros tried to stifle the almost desperate leap of his heart at those words, gaze fixed on Maglor as if searching. For what, he hardly knew. He didn't pull away, couldn't. Could barely move.

Happy. Elrond was...happy. Had somehow managed to move past everything to reach that point. As the words sank in, his chest loosened and he could breath just a little easier.

"I...am not quite ready for that. Yet." But he could hope, now. Missing his other half was still too raw and painful. At least hew as mostly pass the bitter, foolish feel of betrayal.
bythewaves: (hm?)

SIIIIGH

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-16 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
That hand wanders up to cup Elros' cheek fondly, and then he tugs a strand of hair affectionately as he drops it.

"He would understand, I am sure. But do not take too long, yonya. You no longer have the luxury of an elven lifespan." Maglor cannot quite hide the pain that statement brings him, but it was Elros' choice.

"He would want you to be happy. As do I."

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-22 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't help but lean briefly into that hand before the light tug drew an unwilling smile. But the smile was short-lived, again, at the words. Elros looked away, looking around as if he was uneasy around so many people.

But it wasn't that at all. He could hear the pain in his father's voice. Pain he put there. He didn't let his hands clench into fists, however much they wanted to.

"Perhaps it is not happiness I deserve, for what I have done." Spoken so quietly, hardly daring to breath the words loud enough for Maglor's ears.
bythewaves: (oh for goodness sake)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-22 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
"Never say that!" Sharp and immediate. "You and Elrond - you both deserve to be happy. You chose as you felt was right, as did he. You have done nothing wrong."

A soft sigh. "I cannot deny I wish you had chosen otherwise, but I would not have seen you again in any case. Promise me, Elros. Promise me you will try to be happy. It is all I ever wanted for the two of you."
mortalhalf: ask before taking please (Remembering)

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-22 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
The sharp words brought his attention back to Maglor, as was probably meant. But he didn't flinch nor shy from him. Maglor wouldn't raise a hand to harm him, not now.

His lips twisted though, and he blew out a sharp breath as fingers fiddled with cloth at his sides. Better than clenching into fists that would do nothing. Elros didn't say a word for a moment, just looking at Maglor. Searching for answers, perhaps. Searching for nothing he knew in as many words.

"I...I will try, ada." It was the best he could do.
bythewaves: (alone)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-22 12:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Maglor reaches across again, folding those fiddling hands into his (Elros can doubtless feel the scarring) and squeezing gently.

"That is all I can ask. But never think that either of us blame you for your choice. I cannot speak for what your brother thinks now, of course - but later, from the stories I hear, he understood, you know. He did not blame you. He watched your family for you, when you were gone. And as for me... your choices are yours to make. As long as you are happy with your choice, so too am I."
mortalhalf: ask before taking please (Sweet)

[personal profile] mortalhalf 2014-11-22 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course he felt the scarring, but that didn't matter in favor of holding onto those hands. Not quite clutching them, but nearly so. Elros listened to the words Maglor always seemed to know he needed to hear. Reassurances. Refusal to lay blame.

Told him his twin eventually understood. For that alone his lips quirked, irony heavy about him. "It has been years, yet still you know my mind. You always know what I need hearing."
bythewaves: (i suppose)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-11-22 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
A soft sardonic chuckle. "I raised you for nearly twenty five years, Elros. I would like to think that I know you well, after all that time, despite the distance in between us."

Maglor shakes his head at Elros fondly. "They all said that your brother was the one who liked to overthink things, but you were just as bad, in your own way. Stop dwelling, Elros. You chose, and you chose as it seemed right to you. It is enough for me."
