[In movies, moments like this look so easy. Sometimes Kieren is just full of this weird, reckless bravery that is often fueled by anger. The first time he kissed Simon Monroe, he'd been so angry and unsettled, his hands had been shaking even after he'd crashed their mouths together. The second time, he'd been sort of smug and flattered and a little smitten. Now he's frozen, staring at the mistletoe with bewilderment and this odd, off-putting guilt in his chest.
Problem 1: Thomas has Problems with Kieren. This is not a secret. Kieren has seen his nightmares. He has seen Newt and he has felt Thomas' dread and guilt and heartbreak. He is not sure he can kiss Thomas under the mistletoe because Kieren sort of looks like Newt and also Kieren is a zombie? It's a complicated situation. He's sure, one day, he and Thomas will laugh about this. Probably?
Problem 2: Kieren is pretty sure he is in a relationship? It's a new feeling. And, okay, it's been six months since he last saw Simon, but Kieren had his thing with Rick and then Rick started doing his thing with Vicky and it had hurt. He's pretty sure he's never been cheated on, but he still sort of knows what that's like. Simon is insufferably smug almost all the time, but he's also vulnerable and Kieren knows for certain Simon's hurt face would 100% kill him. It would be the end.
Problem 3: He sort of likes Thomas? In a friend way. But also he is pretty cute? And nice, despite the Newt Thing.
He stares at the mistletoe and then at Thomas and then leans in and pecks the corner of his mouth. If he had a heart beat, it'd be racing. He's glad he can't blush or sweat or any of that other embarrassing stuff. ]
