knockedaboutthehead: (damn it Laurence)

i'm threading a character from temeraire with sharpe. i wouldn't care if he had one icon total

[granby nods, irritated and handling it less than gracefully. where else would he be from? they had both been talking about being in his majesty's service. they were both speaking English the appropriate (and in sharpe's case very noticeable) accents.] Born in Newcastle.

[The Station really is something, isn't it? He should have seen it before its destruction, but at least it seems to be gaining back its old splendor. As for what she's looking for... Here, there seems to be nothing she's looking for per se, which makes her feel at odds, like she hasn't a proper goal to aim for. If anything, she tries to busy herself with tending to and looking after those who need it, who need someone. Not only a friendly presence, but maternal. She worries about those she's given life to, even if perhaps she never gave life to anyone here directly... They feel like the mortals or otherwise back home, and so her affection extends to everyone.

But! Let them not worry about such things, now. Even if she's had nothing in particular in mind prior to his question, just maybe she can weasel something good to eat out of him. She chuffs, tail raising to wag a bit, and then reaches over to gently apply teeth to his fingers. There's a couple of tugs, deliberate, and after this she trots away from him, pausing only to look back. Clearly this means, follow her.

She isn't sure how long he's been here himself, or how much of the Station he's explored, but it may be obvious that she's leading him to the kitchen. Helpless.]

[All right, now how does he work this thing... (and, for that matter, how does this thing work?)]

Hi there. Umm.. I'm from Kamiyama. Umm.. Gifu prefecture. Straight north of Nagoya.

[He's not sure where Inaba is exactly, unless she means Tottori. But no-one in his time calls it that anymore.]

I just arrived and might not be much help, but I'm happy to meet another person from home. [Kind of.]

This is going to sound like a weird question, but what year is it?

I trend when men will not.

[ That is all she is willing to give, none should know of the task she has given herself. It is a dangerous one certainly, and one that would sow chaos amongst the ranks. ]

A child, regardless of luck, would not be able to wonder this far into the forest. It consumes the unwary.

[ So yes, she thinks there is certainly something off. ]

[personal profile] conservationist 2015-01-10 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure about the fairies yet. I've had a lot of trouble communicating with them. [Stereotypically, in fantatsy stories little girls like this kid usually have better luck... something to think about.]

I'm not-

nnnnnnn...

[You can't ask him to describe that either. He needs Mei-Ling or Otacon to do that. Someone here inherited the wrong genes from daddy.]

Never mind. I'm more interested in knowing why a man who kidnaps kids to fight a war is intent on staring at animals that aren't real.
leloup: (pic#8688806)

[personal profile] leloup 2015-01-10 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[it's a little surreal having to decipher her body language, no matter how simple it is. the animals he's been around have all been fortunate enough to be able to talk back to him, leaving no doubt in the way of their intentions, but it's been ages since he's seen another one of his own. the only place you can find a wolf at in Manhattan is the zoo, a place he's not skipping work to play hookie at anytime soon. he can just imagine Colin's comments ("cousin of yours, Bigby?") and he's not sure whether he should snort or roll his eyes.

he quirks a brow in her direction, not in a critical way, mind you, just curious.]

Guess that's a "maybe".

[—and he follows her all the same, because really, what else does he have to do? and it's true that he's new, that he doesn't know his way around the station as well as she evidently does, but he catches on quickly enough to make a good guess where this is heading when the coppery odor of metal mingled with sweat and oil begin to fade and give way to the warm scent of freshly baked bread and sizzling meat.]

...Seriously? [oh-so deadpan.] You've only known me for about a minute and a half, and you already want me to treat for lunch? I feel like we're skipping a stage or two here.

[Wide, purple eyes look up at the elf, trying and failing to hide how much the sudden approach scares him. He isn't running, but only because there isn't really a place to run with him sitting between the couple and this stranger.

Because while he was looking at Fëanor and already thinking that he looks more like Celegorm than Legolas, he also knows that the family that he now belongs to isn't exactly the most popular one among elves from Maglor's world.

Still, there are good reasons why he wears the star. So he pulls himself up a bit straighter. There are many ways in which he could answer, and in the end he settles with:]

Because it heralds the house that I belong to.

[There we go, that's better. If he'd told her to stay put she'd have had to sneak away and while she's positive that she could she'd rather not have to go through all that hassle. Things are always better if they are on the same page about stuff.]

The food's more important, yeah? But we can check if the people who are eating end up sick later while we look for stuff to write on.

...Actually we could maybe try asking? They are giving us all of this, maybe they do't care if we wanna draw.

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-10 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Divine forces don't generally mingle in the Dragaeran Empire, but the place is full of sorcerers. So a man cleaning up a stain is not terribly surprising to Aerich.]

[he nods]

Thank you. As for me, I am well enough.

[well, considering the general circumstances of his arrival, which he'd prefer nor to detail to strangers.]

Re: Alessandro Simonelli | Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell/Ladies Grace Adieu | Seelie

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerich's own clothing is borrowed from the Seelie, and seems to have a bit of trouble fitting the length of his arms and legs -- while the fae have many sizes, they seemed to assume most people would be human-sized, so an eight foot tall man is unusual.]

[He had no signs of magic; save for the locket given all shardbearers, but slightly pointed ears and angular features gave him a bit of a fae look himself.]

"I cannot say I am either, sir, as I have not heard those terms before."
lyorning: (cool)

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-10 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerich immediately drew back his hand and chose a different piece of fruit. While he was used to the idea that most others were only a bit more than half his size or smaller, that small had not occurred to him.]

My apologies.

[it was distasteful to see a sword being used as a mere kitchen utensil, but Aerich had to admit that it had been a breech of manners for their hosts to not be sure their guests had serving utensils of appropriate sizes. Even his own knife would be several times this warrior's height.]

Re: Lia de Beaumont | Le Chevalier D'Eon | Seelie

[personal profile] lyorning 2015-01-10 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Aerich might look like a local; he's far too tall to be a normal human and has slightly pointed ears, and borrowed clothing (as his own was for traveling and not fine dining] But he nodded to Lia giving a shrug.]

In truth, I wonder if any place in my own world is like this. The variety of beings is surprising.

[Easterners had been emigrating the the Dragaeran Empire for some time, but it would be rare to see one even on the serving staff: the number of Eastern nobles could be counted one one hand. Other species were even more reclusive.]

[Wow, a centaur. A real, living, talking centaur, with a giant poof of hair on her head. This isn't doing much to challenge Chie's idea that this is a dream, but oh well to that. Watching her try to get into those chairs, she thinks she might give her a hand or two, but odds are she'd just get in the way.]

Wow... nope, there's no centaurs where I'm from. It's all humans all the time, haha, except for the animals.

[Well, there are some strange, inhuman beings where she's from, technically, but the less spoken of them, the better. They're certainly not friendly like most of the people around the feast. Thinking about that, Chie spears a sausage on her fork, but speaks up first before cramming it in her mouth.]

Are you from... here, then? I'm guessing that a lot of people are used to the whole, um, lots of different kinds of people thing.
powercharge: (14)

[personal profile] powercharge 2015-01-10 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Chie don't get it. Chie is picking all this up as she goes along, because Chie doesn't usually like to think hard about magical weirdness.]

Hey, I can see you! How are you doing that?

[No, she wasn't really paying too much attention when the fairies explained the locket. She was too busy being freaked out, thanks.]

Oh, man, am I glad to hear I'm not the only one from Earth. There's so many people around here that are dressed all funny and not, um... human.

[Not that she has a problem with non-humans, but it is kind of shocking to be around so many all at once.]

Um... it's 2011. Why are you asking? Are you a time traveler or something?
enjoymyatelier: it's me. (in my dream i am mister darcy.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-10 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, it's almost hard enough to avoid that when you've got two legs, much less four. It's such a large venue, and yet it almost feels like there's hardly enough space...

[...what is this poor girl going to do about stairs, he finds himself idly wondering as he watches that whole thing. Surely in a world like this, those sorts of things must be accounted for?]

And it is, believe me. I don't think I've had a bad meal here even under normal circumstances... well, here in Caer Glaem. It can get a bit more hazardous if you're going elsewhere, but that's to be expected, really.

It resembles a signet ring, though I do not recognize the crest.

[Not surprising; Aerich wouldn't expect to recognize the mark of a noblewoman outside his own country, but he imagines that is not what the young lady is asking.]
enjoymyatelier: zach. they're here. (migrane's a comin.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-10 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I really have no idea, but it seems like a really awful idea to try and find out.

Maybe it would if anyone was willing to buy it. Pretty sure most of the natives here have a no-buying of magical artifacts for shardbearers policy. But hey, if you want to give up your medieval cell phone, you go right ahead.

[She's traveling to find Clarke and the rest of the other Seelie 100. She doesn't like being divided, and if there's somewhere they can all go that would be better. There's a small camp of the Unseelie group to the east, but with her brace she's trying to do some scouting. She hasn't seen anyone, yet, but she is on the lookout. Having an Unseelie shard isn't safe in these parts.

She isn't the most used to silent walking. Raven hasn't grown up on the ground, and hunting is still a relatively new concept to her. The twig she snaps is on accident, but she doesn't realize what she's done until she sees the beast up ahead already running away.]

Dammit.

Given what I've read of them in Rose's books, that would not surprise me at all. Although if I have things I need to hide, perhaps I have already hidden them?

[Her smile is almost coy. As coy as Kanaya can ever manage, anyway.]

Anyway. I'm assuming you haven't seen anyone I'm looking for?

[hey now king of heroes that's a little inaccurate, cockroaches can actually survive without their heads

don't insult them like that!!

...and ah, he clearly noticed. welp. so much for catching his bearings before he could deal with this nonsense... right, well, should he approach or be approached? Honestly, it seemed like the only way to win was not to play, but that wasn't an option at this point. He'll... just talk to this other non player character he noticed, pretend it was all intentional, and do not engage until he has a better idea of what to do.]

[personal profile] conservationist 2015-01-10 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
How? Umm, I guess I just asked politely. [Seriously. (ooc: that's just my best recollection of the FAQ bit about the locket; I could be misremembering!)]

Yeah, there are several people from Earth and quite a few even from Japan, but everyone else is... well, I saw a centaur earlier today. She seemed nice.

[He shakes his head.]

Anyways, yes, I'm a time traveler from the strange and terrifying future of 2012. Marvel at our futuristic technology like the... uh, iPhone 5, I guess. [Not that he has one.]

Some people here are from dramatically different times.

[That might even have been a feasible plan of attack if Gilgamesh didn't decide to just ingratiate himself in between Kayneth and his hopeful scapegoat, but alas. At least he no longer needed to decide how to handle the situation, since control has once again been wrested from his hands before he ever got the chance to latch on.

In a room full of people, Lord Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald may now in fact find himself more alone than ever. How unfortunate.]

Lovely celebration, hm?

[...especially when Gilgamesh pours himself a drink about an inch or so away from him, grinning like a particularly hungry cat. Not a healthy range to linger in with the King of Heroes if survival's on the menu.]
