[ The few who are gathered near the table step away to continue their conversation and Nasrin looks for a tankard and a pitcher, hoping there's water instead of simply wine and ale. The first pitcher is, unfortunately, empty; the second does, thankfully, have what she seeks and she pours out two tankards full, one for her and one for Claire, which she offers before she sits down. ]

Being somewhat conscripted into a war? I was...offered a chance to change things in my world. I can't say I had much of a choice, though I did agree to it.

[ Had she not, she might have been hunted down, believed to be a murderer. She takes a sip of her glass. ]

Things spiraled from there. But I can at least say we didn't have fairies where I am from.

[ Despite the fact that she is an elf, despite her magic, despite the mark on her hand. ]

My name is Nasrin Lavellan. And yours?

( Although Claire takes the tankard from Lavellan it goes to sit untouched on the table - at least for now, half in uncertainty and half in wanting to know what was going on first. Or more importantly )

Claire. ( Should she say more than that? She doesn't often do introductions, or do well at them when she has. There's a pause, a breath before she does say more - but this time on the topic ) We only have fairies in stories, and they were never real.

( Not unless Topher ever decided to make anyone believe that they were a fairy, but even she believed that he had limits as to what he'd do. Programming someone that way would make them more likely to be seen as crazy, and they'd lose an asset )

Could you change things? Or was that just a hope that they wanted you to believe?

[ Her head tilts to one side, inquisitive. ]

There's always a grain of truth in stories. We may not see it right away, but it is always there. Perhaps they existed long ago in your world.

[ And how sad, to think they are now gone. But she says nothing about that, instead tapping her fingers against the side of her tankard while she considers Claire's questions. Her frown is thoughtful. ]

I...I hope I was changing things. I believe I was. But I am not what people want to believe I am. [ She shrugs, as though it does not bother her, but the set of her jaw says it is a more delicate matter than some may think. ] I'm simply a person. I can only do so much with what I have.

I doubt it. The stories aren't that old.

( Or rather some of the older stories - histories, or legends - didn't feature them. If they had ever once been real she'd have expected them to appear in more than just fiction )

What do they believe you are?
