[ Very definitely a foolish thing to cry out. But her next cast is Barrier, there only to protect herself while she finds better footing in the moss and stones so she can look at her potential attacker. Her grip on her staff is tight. ]

Tell me why I should, and I will hold off. Who are you? Why are you following me?

[At any other moment, Èlise might marvel at the sight of magic being worked, real magic. But she's a practical person, and there's nothing more practical than preserving one's own life.]

You think very highly of yourself, don't you? I wasn't following anyone! If anything, I was lost in these damned woods!

[ That...stops her quite handily, her expression freezing up as she watches the woman closely. The grip on her staff loosens just enough so she can pull back, setting the weapon in the moss and the earth and behind her, out of casting range. She draws herself up, both propriety and pride keeping her straight-backed as she addresses her. ]

My apologies. I am...not used to being on my own. I mistook you for someone looking for me.

[ Or for a beast or a monster. She is so used to traveling with friends, with a clan, with soldiers that it has made her more sensitive to the dangers around her. ]

I was only hoping to protect myself.

[Èlise eyes her warily for a few more seconds before relaxing a little, more confident now that she is not about to be roasted in her boots—unless she does attack the woman, presumably.]

Help me find my way and we'll think nothing of it.

[Or rather, she'll think about it quite a bit, but she won't bear a grudge.]

I take it you came from somewhere dangerous.

[ That is a promise she can abide with. Nasrin nods, gesturing for her to come closer. She pulls her staff back into the sling on her back, securing it, and she goes to pull her horse around from the tree she had tied him at. The steed is large and beautiful, dwarfing the elf (ha ha) in size, but she seems to handle the creature well enough. She misses her Red Hart, though. ]

Here. You can ride for a time while I bring you back to the path I have been following. It's not far.

[ She looks out from the other side of the horse, nodding grimly. ]

My home is not kind to singular travelers, much less people like me. I have lived with other people all of my life in one form or another. For me to travel alone is...unheard of.

[She eyes the horse, but doesn't immediately mount it.]

And what of you? I'm not so delicate that I must ride while you walk.

[But she will give the beast a pat on the nose.]

You don't have to travel alone now. Many of us have been brought here unexpectedly.

[ She smiles. ]

Nor am I implying so. But I have lived in the wilds and I am used to traveling on foot farther distances than these. And I have caused you harm. Let this be a small way for me to make it up to you.

[ Nasrin seems surprised at the sentiment, the idea of connecting with others. She frowns slightly, glancing away, and then she goes to grab her pack from where she has left it so she can sling it onto her shoulder. ]

There are things I have to do on my own.
foraneye: (Neutral)

In that case.

[Respect and consideration, not condescension; Èlise can accept that. She nods and mounts the horse while the other woman sees to her things.]

From what they've said, in this place we're meant to work together, not on our own.

I'm Èlise.

And we are also meant to work against others who may be considered our friends. I believe the monarchy is rather backwards in that fashion.

[ She's embittered to the idea of being separated from her comrades when so many remain in the Unseelie court. ]

My burdens are my own, as well. I do not wish to run or refrain from helping the others here-- But there are things I have to do to help my own world beyond simply ensuring its destruction does not come to pass while I am here.

[ Nasrin does not expect her to understand. Or, perhaps, she is being vague enough that she hopes Èlise will not wish to understand. It will be kinder that way. ]

I am called Nasrin. And I...apologize, again, for earlier.

[ She leads the horse - and Èlise - back towards the path, winding carefully over the rocks and the large roots that stick out from the ground. The horse does not seem to have too much difficulty navigating the crags or the roots, and neither does she, moving as deftly as her mount. ]

What were you doing out here, anyway?
foraneye: (Truce)

[personal profile] foraneye 2015-01-07 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[Èlise falls silent as she listens. She may not sure this woman's burdens, or her goals, but she knows well what it is like to find herself in opposition to those she cares about.

A foolish monarchy is nothing new, either.]

Your apology is accepted.

[It's over and done with. And she wouldn't ride on the horse of someone she still expected to set her ablaze.]

I was stumbling around like a fool. Did you think I was joking about being lost? [If only.] I haven't spent much time in the woods before.

Yes, but why come out to the Greatwoods in the first place? Surely you had some reason behind it.

[ They are, after all, far out enough that she could not simply have wandered into its depths on pure accident. But she gives Èlise a good-natured smile. ]

These woods or in general, if I may ask?
foraneye: (Against the wall)

[personal profile] foraneye 2015-01-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I...well. In general; I think that's quite obvious by now.

[Much to her chagrin. But while she has her pride, Èlise also has sense, and she's not about to dissemble when the truth of the matter is painfully apparent.]

I wanted some time to myself. And I wanted to learn what I could of the land. [An embarrassed pause.] Instead...well, you saw.
