[ Well, this is a surprise. To not know of Minrathous-- how very strange. It's too bad the talk of snow saps any other reaction from him. ]

Really? Snow? And here I was hoping I'd seen the last of it...

[ Seriously, fuck snow. Fuck the cold. Dorian practically gets a chill just thinking about it. And ten months? That's almost as long as he's been in Skyhold. Nope. Not gonna think about that now, better be charming. ]

And does Lord El-Melloi II have a first name, if I may ask? I wouldn't impose, but you sound like a friend I should wish to have. Unless "Lord" really is your first name, in which case... my condolences.

[ You're fucking imposing Dorian, omg. ]

Sorry to disappoint and dishearten, I really am. We're in for a long winter. Give it three or for months, and it'll straighten out.

[Waver raises an eyebrow, impressed. And amused. Someone's seen through it that quickly. A first.]

My title is my nom de politics. The only one worth knowing.
magestache: (???)

[ Dorian groans somewhat dramatically, shrugging with it and all. Oh, anything but winter! ]

Good to know I have three more months of staying completely indoors.

[ Woe is Dorian. Just woe. Except not, he recovers in no time, smirking at Waver's easy shrug. Nice dodge there, Waver. ]

You know, I have a friend with something similar. Called himself 'The Iron Bull.' But then, his version of politics involved bludgeoning people with a large stick, so you can see why it fits.

[ Not that that's a threat or anything. Far from it, the idea of a pseudonym makes him smile. Really it reminds him more of home than anything, but those tales aren't as fun when you don't know the context of being from Tevinter. ]

Very well then, Ser Lord Il-Melloi II, it is. [ he stops for a breath, once again smiling. ] You've been involved in this war for over ten months? You must know a great many stories.

Oh, I've met a few types like those. I tend to get on quite well with them. I can respect anyone who can be that blunt with politics, and not get their head chopped off for it.

[So, around here, that'd be no one. The Brucolac comes close, but he plays the game too.

Waver smiles a little. Dorian kept the II.]

A few associates of mine have settled on Elmie, if that's any less ridiculous. I'll respond to hey you, since it is a mouthful

[The question, however, only thins Waver's smile.]

None that are safely shared here, you'll find.
magestache: (kaffas)

[personal profile] magestache 2015-01-04 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I quite agree. As long as they stand between me and other people who're also wielding big sticks, I say let them have at it.

[ Always pays to have a good warrior in front of you. Or behind you. wink wink? ]

Perhaps I can shorten it to 'Ser Lord II.' Less of a mouthful, but still just as charming.

[ Charming and smart, what a guy. He wasn't kidding about those politics, huh. ]

So I see. Hardly surprising, given our less than cordial arrival. [ he sighs. yep... just like home. ] Wars are such ugly things. Sad to know that doesn't seem to change, even here.

Glad to know we're of the same mind on that front. I can usually shout from behind.

[This is called Rider is a great influence, and taught Waver a lot.]

I'll roll with that, and thank you for keeping the II. It's a pedantic thing, but one of personal importance to me.

[Not at all. Waver crosses his arms over his chest, eyes scanning the feast.]

Different worlds, same bullshit. There's a reason I've left the castle and live outside the courts.
magestache: (my my)

[personal profile] magestache 2015-01-04 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Always the chance of singing a few trousers, but that's a risk they'll have to take.

[ See also: having to teach Cole that "friendly fire" doesn't mean what he thinks it means. ]

A title like The Second is something only spoken when one knows much of the first. I won't presume to guess whether that knowledge is a benefit or detriment to you, but I've seen quite a few who've been drawn up in chains after missing a "Lord" or misreading a "U" for a "V."

[ Romans Tevinters and their V's... Dorian sighs almost wistfully-- hiding his disgust at his home's practices. ]

So that's an option, is it? Just leaving? I can't help but find that somewhat hard to believe.

[ It certainly wasn't that simple for him, and yet he did. ]
gordianknots: But you take the grand prize in ego-tist-icat-acrobatic master of conceit (But I will never go home again)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-01-04 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I mostly just look grumpy if anyone drops it. The first holder of the title and I didn't see eye to eye, and I'm glad to not have to think of him if it can be avoided.

[So, a massive problem, what with Kayneth in the Drabwurld itself.]

It is an option. It's just not a popular one, because the courts provide so much. Protection, food, water, clothing, all the basics. Stay around, they put you to work for them, and integrate you into the system. [Waver's lips thin, unhappy.] An unpleasant cycle, repeated for centuries.
magestache: (stealing my own icons)

[personal profile] magestache 2015-01-05 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
So I see. Good to know, then. I'll take care to keep it there, Ser The Second.

[ He's shortening it more and more... ]

Never been too good at that. Integration, I mean. Can't say I don't see the appeal, but alas. Seems I'm not meant for this court, if that's the case.

[ Plus talk of integration just gives him bad memories or home of the Qun. Not exactly pleasant thoughts. ]

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-01-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well then, Ser Pavus, let me thank you for being so sensitive to my delicate name problems.

[He grins though - this is as good as Jack naming him Elmie.]

It's funny. Unseelie is the court of free spirits, but they still expect you to serve. Direct contradiction.
magestache: (what did you just say to me)

[personal profile] magestache 2015-01-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
Please, call me Dorian. Ser Pavus is my father.

[ This is the part where a giant flag that says "DADDY ISSUES" would fall from the sky and land on Dorian's head, knocking him over with the weight of it. Of course, none of that happens. Dorian just shrugs and carries on conversation normally. ]

It's not in the nature of those in power to make much sense, I've found. Power speaks beyond all differences and creeds. Desperation, too.

[ He's acting all cool but the fact that he can't feel the veil or the fade is really Not Okay at the moment, never mind what'll happen once he falls asleep... ]
gordianknots: Please don't waste your pity votes on me (Default)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-01-05 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Dorian it is. I try to err towards polite titles here, out of respect, and let people correct me otherwise.

[And that's a topic to leave.]

Truer words never said, and no more truer here than anywhere else. [There's centuries of knowledge in Waver's head about the different types of power in the Drabwurld now. Christ.]

Forgive me bringing up politics so early into your arrival. I find it an easier thing to give people an idea of what they've really been tugged into first thing. Helps them know to watch out for.
magestache: (???)

[personal profile] magestache 2015-01-05 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Always a good way to do it. Never know who might feel slighted if you drop the numbers on their title, hmm?

[ Have a quick wag of his eyebrows, cause he means you, Waver. ]

I rather appreciate it, really. Better to know the truth outright than find myself unpleasantly surprised later.

[ Not that Dorian trusts the kind of people who have all this power, but he's seen it wielded for good, so there's still some naive hope left in him. He just likes to pretend it doesn't exist. ]
