A: Feast
[ The feast is okay. He's seen better, but as far as these things go, the spread in front of him is fairly impressive. There are dishes present that he can't put a name to, and he watches other guests' eating habits before trying something himself, plus the alcohol is pretty decent. Well. Damn decent.

The place could use a good rock band, though, because the current musical selections remind him a little too much of home. And home is currently a crapshoot. He'll stay here and play nice (maybe) until he ferrets out more info about this war. ]

B: Network
[ He's settled in a chair somewhere, slouched really; a short, blond guy in flannel, jeans, and a smirk that gets him into more beds and more trouble than it probably should. ]

My name's Random. You won't know me, but it doesn't matter. Any of you fine folk musicians out there? I'm a drummer, [ among various other things] and I'm thinking this world needs a good band.

So what say you?

A -- drummer?

[ she loves music: singing and the fine plucking of harp strings. she supposes a drummer must beat upon a drum. but it's a funny way to hear it called. ]

That's right, sweetheart. A drummer. One of the best around.

[ He's also modest and reserved, as she can plainly see. ]

[ her nose crinkles. so many of the fresh shardbearers have such atrocious manners. but it would be crass of her in turn to scold or chide a stranger.

so she endures. ]

You must be very proud of your accomplishments.

[ Those are hard-won manners. He doesn't have to be on his best behavior here, at least not yet. Easier to move around and learn things when people don't know his actual rank. ]

Generally am, but it depends on the accomplishment. [ He gives Sansa a half smile. ] Are you proud of yours?

Quite proud.

[ a lie. a palpable lie. though it's hard to say whether she lies because she isn't proud of what she's accomplished, or instead feels she's hardly accomplished anything at all.

barring one thing. ] Though all have been centred upon these lands. Some would say it hardly counts.

So that's what counts.

[ Look, everyone lies. Random does all the time. It's practically a family tradition. Kind of like a survival skill where he's from. ]

Here, home, the moon. You do something, it counts. Aye? Because you know.

Brave words for someone who has just arrived. [ and she feels all the braver for daring to call attention to it. so she softens her opinion: ] Most new Sharbearers seem more eager to dismiss the importance of these lands. They miss home too fervently.

Honestly, I'm not sure about all this shardbearer nonsense. I think I would have discovered some crystal growing inside of me long before this

[ Medical school, at the very least. Which he only went to out of self defense, okay? ]

Oh, I miss my home. [ Far more than he's willing to admit. ] There's nothing else like it in ... well, anywhere. But the political situation isn't exactly nice right now. Allaidh Darach seems comfortable enough to live in.

I believe it depends a great deal upon where you make your home. [ a pause. ] I live in the Cothromach and...and I am pleased with it.

Good advice to keep in mind no matter where you find yourself, milady.

[ psst, don't look now, but he's actually displaying decent manners. ]

What is it like, this Cothromach, if you don't mind me asking?

[ oh, she's looking! and noting. and growing all the warmer for it. ]

Not at all. It's -- strange, at first. To live beneath the ground. But its people are good people. And its buildings are marvels.

An underground city, huh. Those are ... rare.

[ Blue eyes narrow in a speculative gaze. ]

And you don't mind it? Buildings made of stone, presumably, or incredibly hard wood. I'd say that makes you a very interesting girl.

I'm afraid I can't afford to mind it. It is what it is.

[ and she is its keeper. ]

[There's some lean skeleton of a man, knobby knees and elbows and a great lot of curly dark hair, who hears drummer, hears band, and has his interest piqued. Of course, mind you, it's not that easy.]

'pends, mate, on what kind of band you're looking to start. Doesn't it?

[ Music makes the world go 'round. Only thing that ever changes is how the music expresses itself. And that lean, skeletal figure reminds Random of some people he knows. ]

True, true. I'm thinking rock is probably out here. This is a fairly low-key place, or maybe I'm wrong, but anything I can hook a beat around. Y'know?

[A huff of laughter.]

Not much for the electric, naw. [Though, maybe with magic... wait, no. Don't sell out for a guitar, Pinkerton.]

Could still work without it, though. [A thoughtful look. Hmm.] How you feel about blues?

[He's fiddling with his locket when he happens across what's seemingly a random request. But it happens to be one that catches his attention enough that he decides to figure out how to send something back - although he's holding it close enough that all that's really visible is his face, for the moment.]

Aye, I might be. Most people don't seem all that interested when I mention what I play, though.

Is that so.

[ That sounds like a Scottish accent, stranger. Random is familiar enough with the world to recognize it. ]

What instrument do you play?

[It definitely is - which might mean that what comes next isn't so much of a surprise.]

Bagpipes. Although I've experience with some other similar instruments as well, I used to be a piper. Well. I still am, but I'll admit it's been awhile since I've been able to properly play. You'd not be looking for someone right away, would you?

Aye! [She raises her hand, a little excitedly. She likes you, sir.] It might be pretty challenging to do, though.
