( drums, the sound of drums. they echo and bounce and grow louder and louder. they won't stop. ) ]
Yes. [ He nods, overly large hat swaying with the movement. ] Are the others here? There are so many songs- sounds, twisting spinning, sunlight on the hair. [ It is hard to see behind his mop of hair, but he frowns. ] I can't hear them.
no subject
I have yet to see anyone, but that may change. I don't think either of us have looked around.
[ Stepping forward, he motions for Cole to follow. ]
Come. Outside.
no subject
I don't need to look? [ He says tilting his head. ] They remember, call out.
[ Ah, yes. Cole is quick to follow, keeping just a step behind him. ]
no subject
[ It's said with kindness, though, with a kind of passion that makes his smile lift up. He is constantly in awe of what Cole is, what he strives to be, and nothing, not even the wedge between them, will change that. ]
If you find anyone... Will you tell me?
[ Or will he accept the wishes he is sure most of their companions have and make it so they never see Solas again. ]
no subject
Yes.
[ Brow furrows for a moment, there is a knot, small but there and noticeable. Solas is knotted up, but he cannot see most of them. He can see this one and compulsively he reaches out to try and tug at it. ]
Worried, so very worried. Left without a word, could not stay, would not be able to say goodbye. Snow cold around my feet, wind biting, better this way. [ He refocuses, looking at the elf. ] You think they hate you? Never want to see the damn elf again? No, don't hate. Angry, confused, but not hate.

He knows what the spirit is feeling and it would be so easy to reach inside and shut it down - but he doesn't, this time, he waits, just to hear what he has to say. He's curious and interested. ]
Cole, please. [ Lips pursed. ] We have discussed this before. There are some hurts you cannot heal.
no subject
Sudden, no warning, thought you might have fell. Wanted to know, ask, why.
no subject
[ And the familiar snap strikes between them; he does what he can to reach and cut Cole off from being able to feel him. It's too much too soon and Solas cannot handle it. ]
no subject
I'm sorry.
no subject
[ He steps closer, leaning down. This is this spirit's purpose and he is denying it; Solas can only imagine the pain that must cause. He remembers his friend, chained and turned, and his lips twist. ]
I cannot let you touch what you cannot help. It will torture you.
no subject
I don't hate you, Solas.
[ The knot is gone, hidden from him, he cannot tug it anymore or unravel, but even so... he still tries. Words instead of pulling, taking the pain and guilt and leaving him lighter. ]
I am happy.
no subject
You are. We did the right thing, the Inquisitor and I.
[ They didn't follow Varric's path. Carefully, Solas steps away, the floor cold against his feet. ]
We should continue.
no subject
Where are going?
no subject
[ He says it with as much of a smile as he can manage. ]
Though it might not be so easy.
