[She's aware the voice just admitted to being Dead, but between all the strangeness of the drabwurld and the fact that she has no idea where the voice actually is, she's more exasperated than afraid.]

[A loud and irritable snake-hiss. Though the locket is set to voice-only, the Brucolac's grimace is almost audible.]

My apologies. [Although Sabriel does not sound remotely sorry, it's said more out of reflex.]

What do you want? [Because in her experience, Dead things either sought to avoid her, or sought to kill her.]

My business is to lay the Dead to rest when they trouble the living. Or when necromancers seek to raise them.

And how do you do that?

With counter-necromancy; whether with bells, lesser instruments of power, Charter Magic, or other means. [Such as making sure necromancers actually die, instead of becoming Greater Dead.]
