[Blinking with a bit of curiosity, she turns away from her food to give him her full attention. Habit, really. When meeting new people, she always enjoys hearing what they have to say.]

Y'know, I think it was kind of like a dream! Maybe. Then again — [She shrugs with a chuckle.] A lot of what I deal with back home is pretty much all out of a dream.

Mainly, it's just things we deal with so you don't have to. Thing seem pretty normal here though! Even if the castle thing's all kind of out of some book or something.
no subject
I can't imagine your frame of reference if you call this place "pretty normal".
no subject
But since this place seems like it has some sort of connection with some "fight", she figures it might not all be that simple anymore.]
There's fighting back home too, just ... well, maybe not like this. It's not a big war. But who knows, I thought I was normal before too — before I learned I had the potential. Who knows? Maybe you have it too and that's why you're here.

Still, I really do hope it's not because I'm a budding adventure hero. That is... not what I want.
... unless my superpower is really low-key.
no subject
It can't be that bad. Besides, you don't have to step up with a cape to do something. Although that still sounds pretty cool. But there's a lot of background heroes, too.

He never wanted to fight, kept saying it wasn't for him. Always liked to hang back and stay out of the spotlight. [She realizes she's going into past tense and corrects herself.] He's quiet like you. But you know, he still really cares about helping people.
[She gives her new friend a poke on the chest.] Is that what you are? Secret hero who frowns a lot but he's a big ol' sap inside?
no subject
I can definitely imagine you as the not-so-secret hero type, though.
no subject
Ha, funny you should say that, considering ... [Well, a lot of her "hero stuff" is very secret.] You might be right though, I guess. My friends always kind of appoint me as the leader a lot for some reason. The reason's a mystery even to me though.

... Anyways, I don't think I introduced myself. I'm Oreki. Uh, Houtarou Oreki. You can call me either one, I don't mind.
no subject
Whoa, I forgot about that too! Just got sorta hyped about this new place and new people. Kind of a whole new world here, it gets your head all over the place. [BUT ANYWAY.] Arisato Minako! Go for Minako, definitely. Pleased to meet you, Oreki.
no subject
There... certainly is a whole new world here. I'm not sure how to take it all in, to be honest. [Though his poker face is getting a good workout.]
no subject
Mm, me neither, really. Well, I've been in some creepy, weird places before but not huge worlds like this with castles and royalty and feasts or whatever. I mean, you kinda read this stuff in the books, you know? Definitely not like Japan at all, for sure.
no subject
It isn't like Japan, but there are a pretty surprising number of Japanese people here in the newcomer crowd. I'm not sure what to make of it.
