Oh. [Huh.] Okay, well, I guess not then. I just thought that that costume, uh, was what people might wear in the future or something.

[It was kind of silly, now that he says it out loud.]

O-oh, well....um, my friend likes to make costumes and I'm usually the one she likes to try them on.

[Not that that is much of a better explanation, dancing around the whole. Cardcaptor thing. She's not yet sure how much to say when she literally just arrived more or less, not yet having too much time to take everything in. How normal magic is here in comparison. She looks down at the outfit, considering. She's just rather used to Tomoyo and her outfits after wearing so many while capturing the cards lately.]

And there was the play I was in too. I guess this does kind of stand out, but I haven't had the chance to change just yet.

Oh, it's a costume... [That makes a lot more sense. The world isn't ready for this kind of outfit as street wear.]

[Hearing that this girl is from 1998 raises more questions, though. If she's... what, ten? Eleven? in 1998, she would be an adult in Oreki's time. Since Oreki himself is here, he knows whoever runs this place can fetch people from the 2010s, too. So... why not nab this girl from her future, when she's older? Shards or no, why would they want to kidnap a grade schooler on purpose?

... best not to bring that up to her, at least not until he's figured out an answer.]

I know it....probably looks strange. I don't usually wear stuff like this. Mostly it's just my school uniform.

[And then that takes her to wondering if there are even schools here. What that would mean for her education. Sakura isn't sure if she wants to go through classes or homework or if she'd miss it, especially without her friends. She didn't even think to consider to ask the fairies that.]

Um....do you think there's a school here?

[conservationist]

A school... hmm.

[He has to think about it.]

I doubt there's anything you'd recognize as a school here. Unless they've set one up specifically for the benefit of people from modern times like us.

... [She probably feels awfully lost.] I'm going to try to find a way to get home as soon as possible. ... I can't say whether that will pan out or not, yet. [He already has a gut feeling it won't.]

[keystaff]

There isn't? Oh. I guess with a war, they wouldn't have many my age....so that makes sense.

[Even if that leaves her grasping at straws for something more familiar and routine in all of this. Unsure what she is supposed to fill her time with outside of school and clubs like her cheerleading back home. But she gives a nod of agreement at that.]

I'm not sure if there is a way for us to get back home or they send us back when they don't need us? But if you need a hand figuring a way back, I want to help. Or at least try. There must be others also missing home, so.....

[He can't guess why they would even have one person her age -- not that the people who live here don't have kids of their own, he's sure, but they aren't like to do what this girl thinks of as "school" in any way that's useful to her.] I, uh, wish I could say I had a lot of leads, so far. But I don't. One person suggested I talk to the rulers of this place, but it sounds like nearly everyone who wants to go home tries that and it hasn't worked yet.

People do go home at times, but they don't seem to go home when they want to or because they asked.

[keystaff]

So we can't just choose to go home. That's what I thought. But....we have to at least try do our best while we are here. I'm sure I'll figure things out. And we can help each other. Maybe the fairies? They brought us here. Maybe they might be able to help?

[Sakura isn't sure if that is the answer. Likely others had already considered it if they've been here longer, but it's the first other thing that comes to mind outside of talking to these monarchs to send them back.]

[conservationist]

I'm not sure about the fairies yet. I've had a lot of trouble communicating with them. [Stereotypically, in fantatsy stories little girls like this kid usually have better luck... something to think about.]

[keystaff]

Really? I guess I didn't get much chance to try talk to them myself either. Not yet anyway.

[Which doesn't mean she won't at least attempt to try. If she can manage to communicate with the Clow Cards, perhaps fairies aren't....so different? Right?]

[conservationist]

Just, uh... If they invite you to drink something with them, don't.

[keystaff]

Hoe? Why? Does it make you sick or something? Are you okay?

[He seems to be saying this from experience, after all.]

[conservationist]

It would probably [pickle an elephant] make you sick, yes. But I'm fine. They gave me an extremely small glass.

[keystaff]

Oh. O-okay. I'll be careful! Maybe they can drink or eat things just fine and didn't know if it might make us sick.

[At least, that's what Sakura wants to think. Trying to believe the best in others. Even fairies.]

[conservationist]

[Well, he's heard humans can drink absinthe, but...] Yeah, uh... I don't think they were trying to poison me, just... they might not be very responsible about these things.

[keystaff]

Oh. Well, that's okay, I can be careful then. I'll keep that in mind. I'm just glad you're all right even if they made that mistake.

[But then she considers the fairies for a moment, pondering.]

Fairies usually have magic, right? Maybe they're going to help with this.....war too? I don't really want to fight.

[Not if she could avoid it. She has the Clow Cards, but even then she's no warrior. Which is what worries her, even if she's trying to stay calm about all of this as best she can.]

[conservationist]

I'm not going to. I understand the shard stuff and whatever, but actually fighting is not my business. They'd have to give me an awfully good reason.

Besides, I don't know the first thing. I don't have any powers or anything. What am I going to do?

... for that matter, what are you going to do?

[keystaff]

I'm not really....a fighter either.

[She's not sure how much to say to that question. Whether to admit about her magic and the Clow cards or to keep quiet for the time being. Kero isn't here to help either. And she's only just met him.]

I'm not sure how I'd be able to help, but I'd want to try. I couldn't just stand and let others get hurt trying to protect me.

[conservationist]

[That doesn't sound like how a totally normal grade schooler would answer that question, but he's not going to pry.]

Nobody is interested in us, only what we're carrying. ... whatever that is. So they can get hurt protecting those "shards" all they want, as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't seem like any of my business until they make it my business.

Am I wrong?

[keystaff]

The shards.....I'm still not sure what they meant by that.

[But then, she has some power and magic, obviously. Which likely contributes to her being here, even if he is oblivious to that. Sakura considers, biting her lip.]

But I couldn't just sit there if others are fighting and getting hurt or killed with all of this. I don't know as much about this, why the fighting keeps going but....it is our business, whether we want it to be or not. At least, I think so. Even if we tried to ignore it or didn't fight, others will. People will still get hurt. So that's why....why I'd want to try help. If it means less people getting hurt.

[conservationist]

[It almost sounds like she's approaching this question from a position of power. If that's the case, then perhaps the costume isn't exactly just for a school play? But he won't pry. He's fairly skilled at getting people to talk about what they don't want to talk about, and it's unfair to do that to a grade schooler just because he's curious.]

More people fighting doesn't usually result in fewer people getting hurt. Please be careful. The people in charge of this place might benefit if we fight for them, so we can't take their word for it that we're on the right side.

I know there's...probably more to this than I realize. Than we're being told about. I just want to help and try do what I can. Maybe not necessarily by fighting but....somehow.

[Not so much a position of power as someone who has some means to help, even if she might be underestimated given her age. Of course she tries to hide it but others still know something is going on.]

[Hmm... or maybe he was wrong, and she's just a naive and very earnest kid.]

I see.

... I'm Oreki, by the way. Um... Houtarou Oreki. People call me by either one. What's your name?

Oreki-san then. Ah, I'm Sakura. Kinomoto Sakura.

[She gives a slight bow of greeting in their introduction, presenting him with a bright smile. Even if this is a strange situation, that doesn't mean she can't be glad of meeting new people, potential friends after all.]
