[wolvering]

[Pod and Kiga have been traveling towards the station, and have stopped for the night near a nice little stream. Pod wants to look respectable when she finds who she's looking for.

She's got a nice little fire going, and some meat and vegetables cooking in a little pot to make a thin stew. Kiga has already finished his meal, and is just idly chewing on the bones.

The wolverine is the first to notice someone approaching and gets to his paws, grumbling out a query at the stranger. He's merely curious, not at all feeling threatened by the presence, so Pod is likewise relaxed and welcoming.]

Do we have a visiter to our fire, boy?

[She lifts her voice.] Come on then; we can share. Don't let Kiga give you a fright.

[illuminating]

[Wanting a drink has brought her to the stream herself, and she spends a bit lapping at cool water before scent of girlish youth and animal find her. And, sweetly accompanying both, food. She pads the earth unhurried, tilting her face, observing from a yard or more away. It isn't the she's shy, or—goodness!—frightened, but she's taking a moment to marvel the sight before her.

Why isn't she so small? And she's tending to herself and her friend with seemingly no trouble at all. There's a pride to be felt in watching little ones look after themselves. Having the girl personally invite her makes her waste no more time, she goes from slow pace to trot and is soon joining the pair at their little campfire. Her tail is all a wagging already, giving Kiga a curious look, before she steps around the burning pit to give Pod a wolfish Hello and check on her proper.

Of course, that entails cold, wet black nose to hair and tiny shoulder and eventually wrist; and finally, satisfied that she isn't hurt, the wolf unceremoniously drops her rear onto the earth to sit beside her, looking content.]

[wolvering]

[Pod's expression is of awe as the wolf comes closer. She's seen wolves aplenty, but none so white and so... Well, wolves don't normally have red markings like that. This is no mere wolf, Pod decides, though exactly what she might be, Pod is unsure.

Her awe is broken into giggles at the greeting, and Pod accepts it with all the grace of someone used to the animals of the world and their ways of saying hello.

The wolverine, on the other hand, grumbles a bit. That's his person Ameterasu is getting so familiar with so fast! But it's halfhearted, and he merely clambers into Pod's lap afterward, making her laugh some more as she runs her hands through his fur.

A moment later one hand falls a little bit towards the white wolf, silently asking if she'd like ear-scritches too.]

I've never seen your like before. Aren't you a beautiful one? Oof, Kiga, how will I finish cooking with you on me?

[illuminating]

[Something like an amused twinkle meets her eyes while she watches the wolverine more or less claim his person. Her tail swipes across the earth, and at the compliment, her chest swells. Vain thing. But that little hand doesn't go without attention for long at all. Pod will feel her fuzzy muzzle meet under the finger tips until she's bumping her hand up to her head both with encouragement and expectation, triangular ears folding passively.]

[wolvering]

[Pod is watching, and she's learned a little more about reading wolves lately--with the help of playing charades and twenty questions with a pack, to find out what they wanted of her--so she sees that pleased puff in response to her comment, and laughs again. Definitely no mere wolf. If it wasn't for the strange markings she might think this one another brother-in-fur like Kiga. That and her magic feels especially warm in her chest right now, like it might be reacting a little to something about the wolf.

And her dinner will keep for a little while, so Pod spends some time giving pets and ear-scritches to both of them. She knows the best spots, oh yes, out of long practice.

Kiga is mollified by the attention, because he knows his person would never choose a wolf over him, and croons happily.]

[illuminating]

[She sighs much, canting into the stroking touch, slipping to lie on the earth beside her with the draining of any present tension—something she rarely notices or pays any mind to, until she is being pet. She groans and pants and paws the air a little, her tail thumping on the grass and dirt.

Soon, she's rolling from side onto her back, her ankles hooked above her. She sneezes lightly, glancing in this upside down position Kiga's way, and is partially considering teasing him. He seems the kind that's easily riled so far, and that can be fun, but oh, is she enjoying the attention too much to part from it.

Besides, maybe if she's well behaved Pod will share about herself—her home, her being here, her story. Things this wolf is interested in from everyone, but has so much trouble drawing out.]

[wolvering]

Ah, you make me miss Jeord and Trebla.

[Scritch, scritch. It's almost automatic to search out the best spots, even as Pod's attention is half on Kiga. The wolverine sadly grumbles a little at her comment. He misses the other 'prentices and their brothers-in-fur too.]

I wonder what your name is, beautiful one. I'm going to guess you're like me and Kiga and brought here from another world.

[illuminating]

[Both ears prick at the names, taking note of the lull in her tone. Amaterasu shifts upwards, now set upon a thigh and reaching over to lick Pod's ear. It may not be obvious but this is her way of reassuring and asking after her friends both. She even dares to lean in toward Kiga to groom the top of his head if he'll let her. A tentative motion, at first, experimental.]

[wolvering]

[Pod can't help the giggle as Amaterasu licks her ear, and makes sure to keep up the petting and scritching of them both.]

You must have friends you miss too, someone so beautiful and clever as you. I wonder if the other wolves here would welcome you; they seem nice enough!

[Kiga grumbles again, but also tips his head to allow it. He's grumpy that Pod's attention isn't all on him, but at the same time, he enjoys the attention from Amaterasu.]

[illuminating]

[Oh, the other wolves. Yes. What's it like to live in a pack, she wonders. Well, then again, she supposes she has her own pack... Or did, as unusual as they were for a wolf to be guiding. Wolves are children she rarely finds herself fretting over, if only because they seem to be so sufficient and family-oriented on their own. As a wolf herself she's also both of these things, and she finds grooming Pod's wolverine to feel as natural as anything, second-nature in fact.

When she finishes, she gives a rather hefty sigh, and then sinks upon the soil to lie next to the girl. If it's all right by them, she'll keep them company until they're ready to venture onward.]

[wolvering]

[Pod smiles happily the whole while, and Kiga even croons a little at the grooming. They're both a little sad too, homesick, but still happy to share. When Amaterasu lies down, Pod nudges Kiga so that she can tend to the pot. She decides her meal is done, and gestures with the spoon to the bright wolf.]

It's hot still, but if you want some, I can ladle it into the snow so it will cool quickly.

[Kiga whines and Pod rolls her eyes at him.] And you've already had your supper, greedy-guts.

[illuminating]

[It's ears that prick first when she's moving the spoon slightly toward the pot, and then eyes quickly brighten after. Her head lifts and as far as answering, she squirms on the snowy earth, tongue coming free to lick her snout with an obvious huff.

Hot, cold, whatever. Please, feed her, precious, precious, sweet girl.]

[wolvering]

[Pod laughs a little at the antics and carefully scoops some of the meat chunks out onto the snow to cool. Some of it is dried meat that was soaked to soften, and some is fresh.]

There you go, beautiful one!

[Of course, the rest is Pod's dinner, and she settles down to eat, blowing on a spoonful to cool it. Kiga grumps a little, but it's halfhearted and he snags one of the bones of his dinner to chew on again.]
