[ Excuse a traditional prince, sir, but you are most terrifying, large, and - for all this may seem forward for a first encounter - your scaly hide is particularly attractive.

Lir has heard of these mythical beasts before. Legend has it, they start strategically perched on the top a gold mountain, and end up on the pointy end of your sword. At some point, the hero makes a few appropriately feral noises (which Lir finds inappropriate, if traditional), the dragon burns down half the scenery, and the day is saved, thanks to the magical help decidedly not at hand.

Actually, all Lir has on hand right now are one rather thin sword and the distinct ability to stare dazedly from a few steps away. ]

I think I'm meant to slay you.

[ Mind, he doesn't sound especially sure. l

[ Now, now, flattery gets one everywhere with a dragon. If only Lir had opened with how terrifying, large, and wonderfully scaly he is. As it is, he did not, and so Draco lifts his head up from his meal and eyes Lir and his sword with some exasperation. ]

Oh? Is that all? [ He snorts and props a great hand-like claw up, resting the side of his jaw against it in a fairly human gesture. With his other claws, he idly taps the ground. Overall, he looks rather like he's waiting. Bored and waiting. ] And do you think you are meant to slay me with that trinket of a sword, hmm?

[ It is, as it happens, a very plain sword, scratched and worn down and gaining its rust. Honest observation beyond Haggard's castle, where good men keep that one endless light bulb in the sky, reveals as much.

Lir stares at it, then at the dragon, then the sword again - somewhat (possibly) embarrassed. ]

I suppose it doesn't matter whether I'm armed well or poorly. If a hero must slay you, then a hero must slay you.

[ He should be embarrassed. Any dragon worth his hide would be offended by that sword. ]

But are you a hero? [ Draco honestly doesn't want to roast the poor sap, since he seems relatively harmless (also very confused). ] Do you have proof? Because I fear I cannot be slain unless you truly are such a man.

I've slain a dragon before.

[ Somewhat indignated, because they are, after all, questioning his credentials. ]

Only smaller. Leaner.

[ And now for the obligatory incredulous look. ]

You've been eating well.
merelychewed: (two seconds from setting u on fire tbh)

You have, have you?

[ Not the best feat to claim around Draco, because now he is rising to stand and spreading out his wings just enough to prove that they are, indeed, very big. That he, in fact, is very big. ]

And that makes you so sure you can slay me, little dragonslayer?
valiantabsurdity: (combatant)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-07 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, Mr Dragon, sir, about those extra pounds. That terrible, most literal largesse.

...well, something about them - something Lir will be sure to address, some other time, when he's not holding his head very high and his stand very pointlessly firm. ]

Have you been oppressing men? And women? And children? Have you burned down homes and ruined fortunes? Do you bed on stolen coin?

[ There is, after all, a mental checklist for these offences. ]
merelychewed: (these are my teeth i have many)

[personal profile] merelychewed 2015-01-08 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ Excuse you, but those are not extra pounds, those are... are... look, maybe he's just big-boned for a dragon! ]

Have I been what? [ Draco frowns, brow furrowing at the short list of stereotypes. ] Why, I never. Have you heard of any dragons doing any such thing, at all, around here? Do you see anything burning? Do you see any stolen coin? Ha, bed on it, as if I had anywhere to put that much coin to begin with!
valiantabsurdity: (adventurer)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-08 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[ And Lir... lightly tilts forward to peer at this frown, because interpreting a dragon's anthropomorphic gestures is always a struggle for the questionable of sight. ]

I suppose... if you're innocent, I suppose it would be an ugly feat to slay you, so well past your prime.

[ Because no young, active dragon is this. Big-boned. ]
merelychewed: (come at me then)

[personal profile] merelychewed 2015-01-09 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's it.

[ He has to draw the line somewhere and being told he's old (despite being entirely true) is where it's at. Draco takes one big step forward and swats at Lir, aiming only to smack the sword away from him. He's irritated, not murderous. ]

I will not be spoken to like that by some witless lordling or knight or whatever it is you are! I am still entirely capable of eating you right here and now and not a single soul in all the lands would come looking, so have a care as to what you say!
