[Someone else is also trying to learn more. Sabriel is listening intently to the conversations around her... and is depressed why what she hears. It seems there is no easy way back to the Old Kingdom- and the war shows no sign of ending any time soon.

When she sees Elrond, she assumes he's one of those from this land- or has at least been here longer than she has.]

Greetings. [Her voice is friendly, but subdued.]

[ Sabriel is a very smart young woman. Learning the lay of the land is generally preferable to jumping in feet first, although he wouldn't rule that out if lives were in danger of being snuffed out. Elrond, perhaps unconsciously, perhaps deliberately, often cultivates an air of quietly in charge simply because it makes things easier to get done.

Or it could be a natural offshoot of his heritage. Nobody is quite sure. ]

Greetings, m'lady, [ comes the affable reply, along with a polite smile and glint of interest in his silver-grey eyes. ] Are you alright?

As well as I can be- I have only just arrived here, and it seems the invitation was not as informative as it should have been.

[She looks up at him. Sabriel is unnaturally pale, though aside from that, and the faint symbol on her brow, she appears completely human.]

At least the food is nice, although I would prefer a way to travel back home.

[ The pallor can be taken as a species thing. Some Men are naturally lighter than others, and Elrond does no wish to make assumptions until he has more facts. But the symbol? That is interesting. ]

Indeed. It seems many of our invitations left out pertinent details.

[ He pauses, voice softening. ]

There does not seem to be an easy way home, from what I have learned so far.

So they say. But surely, we could leave the same way as we arrived? I do not expect it to be easy, but- [Getting out of Death is harder than entering it, but accomplished by the same means. A supicious part of Sabriel wonders if the Seelie are simply lying, to try to force them to fight in their war.]

Although even if there was, our hosts don't seem interested in allowing us to leave.

That is something I do not yet know, m'lady. It may well be that our journey home is - somehow - as easy as it was to enter.

[ Elrond is also wary of trusting their new rulers. ]

No, they are intent on building armies, and, it seems to me, keeping their guests at least partially content.

This war has been waging for a long, long time. As has their recruitment.

I wonder, why hasn't there been a mutiny yet? They must have had many deserters, over the years.
