half_faerie: (seneschal of the spire-towns)

lir can be the leader since he has like a sword and stuff. tristran is impressed

[personal profile] half_faerie 2015-01-06 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Don't worry, he'll gladly take that stained menace off of your hands, Lir, tucking it into a pouch on his belt, but not before one last glance at the embroidery.]

I would have. Thank you again.

[It's like most things from home. Entirely forgotten, as if he had lived in Faerie his whole life, until some sudden, strange little thing brings memories of Wall back to him. He likely hasn't thought about Louisa or the rest of his family in weeks.]

My name's Tristran. Tristran Thorn.
valiantabsurdity: (adventurer)

trust in Lir, surely no harm can come of it (hint: much harm will come of it)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-06 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Tristran.

[ Said with the overdue precaution of a man sounding the word, or committing it to memory.

And then Lir nods, because life is far too short of laborious courtesy, and he's only exercised so much etiquette, anyway. ]

I am called Lir. Of Hagsgate. It's... different from here. And far - I think it's far, though it might yet be close. You've heard of it?
half_faerie: (Default)

someday they ought to get together and talk about the ageless, nonhuman women in their lives

[personal profile] half_faerie 2015-01-06 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tristran shakes his head, truthful as ever. Not that not knowing of a place means much to him anymore. His life since he crossed over the wall has been almost nothing but him not knowing things and he has still somehow managed to come out of it all right.]

Sorry, but no. Is it part of Faerie?

and cry. mostly, cry.

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-06 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Faeries...? Fae? Pixies? Are they not a small people, rather than a place? Or are they a great ground in the way that all creatures find themselves before vermin and fleas? Are the good townsmen of Hagsgate as fleas, then?

...most unfortunate.

Lir's hand travels through his hair shortly, rights a few stray strands. Stalking's never good for the complexion. ]

Not particularly. Maybe as an afterthought. It might border. [ And even more awkwardly - ] Most things border, if you squint.
half_faerie: (lord of stormhold)

theirs is a hard lot

[personal profile] half_faerie 2015-01-07 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
If it borders I might know where it is. [He doesn't bother to explain how he can have never heard of a place, yet still know where it is. Mostly because he doesn't understand it himself. He just knows. But, as we don't want to presume, he will refrain from trying to locate it just now.]

Have you ever heard of Wall?
valiantabsurdity: (gallant)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-07 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Of walls?

[ A slightly stupefied look, because are you quite all right, sir? ]

I know walls. I know houses. I know - both. I do know both.

[ He hesitates, chancing a look towards the woods, from whence come feral beasts, such as this here bemused squirrel. Lir blinks at it. It scowls back.

One of them takes a step back (it's not the squirrel). ]

You need an escort to your walls?
half_faerie: (Default)

[personal profile] half_faerie 2015-01-07 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tristran sighs. It was worth a shot. And honestly, how much can you expect from someone menaced by squirrels?]

No. It's a village. I have been hoping someone might have heard of it and when you mentioned border places...

[He trails off, uncertain. Tristran might be an experienced wanderer, sometime hero, and unwitting faerie king, but underneath it all there is still a large part of him that remains Tristran Thorn of Wall, shop-boy and horribly awkward teenager.]
valiantabsurdity: (worthy)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-07 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I might have heard - [ It is said, please note, most hopefully and helpfully and pityingly. ] ...and forgotten.

[ Perhaps this is all not quite as planned. But Lir's smile returns, half-hearted. ]

I forget too much. I must have heard it.
half_faerie: (Default)

[personal profile] half_faerie 2015-01-07 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
No, that's all right. I forget about it myself most of the time even though I have been journeying there for months. I can't even remember exactly why I'm returning.

[True love. True love. But the words bring up images of golden-white hair and ageless blue eyes and that can't be right. Surely they were supposed to be grey.]
valiantabsurdity: (paladin)

[personal profile] valiantabsurdity 2015-01-08 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe to have something to forget again.

[ A nonsensical adage for such a sober face - he delivers it plainly.

And then stares about, helplessly bemused. ]

I haven't seen a horse in some time. Or a deer, or a bear, or... or any large animal. It's all so quiet.
