[ There's no time to react before she's pulled into a hug by a total stranger. What's the diplomatic way to deal with this?! ]

Aha, hey..!

[ It's not an indignant complaint like it might be with anyone else but an awkward attempt at the hello they've apparently skipped right past. But then this Korra lady keeps talking and the surprise drops right out of her. ]

Wait - you know Elsa? Do you know where she is?

[sangilak]

[ a nod bobs korra's head, but her grin fades just a little ]

Yeah, she's off castle grounds for a couple weeks to take care of some things, but she'll be back! [ stepping back, she drops her hands to her side, but if you're expecting an apology for the hug then... it's not coming, korra's kind of an affectionate person. ] She'll be so happy to see you.

[deiced]

What?

[ She's a little busy being genuinely confused to care about the propriety of hugs right at the moment - though she wouldn't want an apology for it anyway. ]

No, I - I just saw her. We just... what could she have to take care of?

[ ... without me? ]

[sangilak]

[ there's a hesitation, and she figures she should have asked more in-depth where elsa was going ]

It was probably a quest the Queen gave to her. [ resting a hand on anna's shoulder, korra gives her a concerned look ] Are you okay?

[deiced]

[ Anna didn't know anything about this, and it's clear enough that Elsa must have known for at least a while. When did all of this start? Why didn't she say something? Anna had been so sure that she and her sister were finally going to be close again, like they were when they were children. That Elsa was going to finally trust her...

Her smile at the question is genuine, grateful, if understandably distracted. ]

I'm fine... thank you. Do you know where she was headed? I should probably go find her. The last time she went off by herself - well, she made this huge ice castle, it was kind of amazing. [ By the end of her sentence she's mostly talking to herself. ] ... I'll need a horse, if I can find somewhere to get one here...

There's a stable on the grounds — I can show how to get there?

[ ohhh no, you know what korra did? she just leapt into the middle of all of this and didn't bother starting from the beginning. it's a habit she's trying to break, but she just got so excited for elsa that her family would finally show up here.

so excuse her as she backpedals just a little and offers helpfully: ]

You should know: Elsa's been here for months. This place, the monarchs? They all mess around with time, both here and at home.

[deiced]

[ ... Okay, none of this makes sense. One second Anna's nodding, enthusiastically about to accept the offer of help to find the stable so she can find herself a horse, and the next - months? How can that be? Just an hour or so ago her sister was helping her to skate across the courtyard, impossibly graceful like she always is so that Anna herself feels a bit like a baby deer in comparison...

Her brows knit together as she toys with one of her braids. By now her expression is almost pleading, because the more Korra says, the less Anna seems to understand. ]

... But I just saw her.

[sangilak]

I know.

[ it was the same on her end when bolin showed up, so korra can understand the confusion. ]

D'you wanna sit down? [ she jerks her thumb over her shoulder to indicate the hallway, to get anna out of the crowd so they can talk more seriously. ]

[deiced]

[ Okay. Okay. So this... happens? This is part of all that stuff with the fairies and why she's precious? Anna's clearly trying to process this, nodding in answer to the question and shuffling forward a little to indicate her intention to follow Korra out into the hall. But she's looking down, muttering almost to herself at the same time. ]

... She must think I abandoned her...

[sangilak]

[ it's all overwhelming, so there's silence that lapses between them as korra leads anna out to the hall, letting the other girl absorb the information. once they're out into the hall, a slab of rock rises out from the floor to form a chair for anna to sit on; korra relaxes her shoulders and feels her energy recede with her bending. ]

She'd say the same about you.

[deiced]

[ It's distracting enough that Anna barely registers the fact that her newfound companion just made a chair appear out of the ground. There's way weirder stuff happening right now anyway. Though there is a part of her that as she sits down thinks that it must be nice for Elsa, to know someone who has powers too, even if they're not the same ones. ]

Me? Oh, no, no. I mean I guess I used to feel that way, but then there was this whole thing with the coronation, y'know, where she kind of set off this eternal winter by accident and after that I feel like I kind of get it? It's kind of funny really, she thawed it out for us like I knew she would and it was starting to look like things might be different now but...

[ Even feeling as lost and overwhelmed as this, Anna is still Anna, and along with her tendency toward rambling come gestures that grow more animated as she talks - until she trails off, hands falling back into her lap. ]

... You said she told you about me?

[sangilak]

[ but through the rambling, korra feels the little bits and pieces of elsa's story start to fall into place, and she thinks she understands better now. calling up her own slab of rock, korra drops herself down into a seated position across from anna so that she can meet her eyes. ]

Uh huh! She was looking for you when she first arrived, too. So, I told her I'd keep a lookout.

[ elsa didn't mention you were adorable like bolin??? you'll be adopted into the family soon enough, anna, i'm so sorry. ]

[deiced]

[ This time, the summoning of rock up out of the ground catches Anna's eye, and she watches with interest as it's done. Of course, she's just ordinary - but she's found herself thinking sometimes, wondering what it'd be like to do things like that. ]

You two are friends?

[ It's a genuine question, but she's clearly pleased by the idea. Just like Anna to find the positives in difficult situations. ]

[sangilak]

[ again korra nods, brightening at the more positive shift of subject. ]

Uh huh! I've been helping her learn how to control her ice-bending.

[ beat ]

—Powers.

[deiced]

That's what it is?

[ She makes a vague rising gesture with her hands, meaning to refer to the way Korra made these seats appear for them. ]

'Bending'? Because that's really amazing - I mean I thought maybe if I'd had powers too then she wouldn't have had to shut herself away like she did and...

[ Her smile grows. ]

I'm glad she met you.

[ A beat, and then, jokingly: ]

You couldn't teach me, could you?

[ oh spirits, elsa... elsa, elsa, elsa... you poor thing. this is going on korra's list of things to talk to elsa about, and korra feels sympathy for the history that anna's sharing with her. she knows better than to comment on it, though. the timing isn't right at the moment.

i'm glad she met you, and korra smiles, genuine. ]

Yeah, I can! [ so what if anna just said she didn't have powers, that's easily changeable. ] The Monarchs can give you something if you ask for it.

[sangilak]

[ Anna doesn't bother hiding her surprise - she'd meant that as a joke! She couldn't, she... could she? ]

Well - no I was thinking - something... nice?

[ It probably says a lot that she's come this far and the idea that she might get to be like her sister is the most surreal thing yet. ]

Something a little less... dangerous...
