...Ah.

[Well, Kayneth isn't too surprised at this point, but seeing a centaur in the flesh is really something! And a rather polite one, at that, given that centaurs generally had a reputation for being unruly jerks unless they were Chiron, who was apparently an okay dude.

Perhaps it'll be a bit awkward to sit next to someone who's half horse for the length of the feast, but he's really intrigued enough to go for it.]

Well, of course you may. Space is at something of a premium here, after all.
gallopingarcher: (So exciting!)

[She sets her plate down and beams at him.]

Oh, thank you! There are so many people that I keep worrying if I stay on my hooves too much longer that I might step on someone, and I wouldn't want that.

[And then she turns to getting herself settled. It involves three chairs, and some very careful maneuvering on her part, but she manages to get herself on them, essentially laying across them with her front hooves dangling (and swinging happily back and forth, in time with her swishing tail.)]

I've never been at a party like this before. The food looks delicious.
enjoymyatelier: it's me. (in my dream i am mister darcy.)

Ah, it's almost hard enough to avoid that when you've got two legs, much less four. It's such a large venue, and yet it almost feels like there's hardly enough space...

[...what is this poor girl going to do about stairs, he finds himself idly wondering as he watches that whole thing. Surely in a world like this, those sorts of things must be accounted for?]

And it is, believe me. I don't think I've had a bad meal here even under normal circumstances... well, here in Caer Glaem. It can get a bit more hazardous if you're going elsewhere, but that's to be expected, really.
gallopingarcher: (All sweetness.)

It definitely feels cramped! I hope the rooms are better, if I'm going to be staying here. It is difficult enough at home, sometimes!

[Her tail swishes happily as she talks, and she pauses to take a bite of the dessert. Mm, so good! But she really should eat something healthy, so she tackles the main course after, pausing a bite or two in.]

I'm glad the food will always be this good, though. That will help us settle in a lot.

What's it like outside this place? I haven't even gotten a chance to see much outside this room yet!
enjoymyatelier: actually, it totally will. (aha! a plan that will not end in failure)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-13 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
The rooms seem fairly sizable, although... they do tend to be based on your social status in your native world. I'm something of a big name back home, but while I've seen quarters of those of a higher status than me, I haven't really seen anything lower.

[He imagines it's not unpleasant, but possibly not as roomy...]

Ah, but it's really fascinating anywhere you go. It's a bit... pre-modern, I suppose?

[...she certainly does seem a bit modern in dress compared to what he'd expect from a centaur, so that's reference that may not go over her head...]

But it's easy enough to get by, given that magic is really an excellent substitute.
gallopingarcher: (Doesn't get it.)

[personal profile] gallopingarcher 2015-01-13 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Grandfather is always going on about how my cousin and I would have been princesses if we'd lived even a couple hundred years ago. I wonder...

[But she'll jump that obstacle when she comes to it. If the room is too small, maybe someone will listen to reason and help her get a bigger one. It's not like she's demanding to be treated like a princess; she just wants space to move comfortably.]

Like being in a period drama? Oh, that sounds so exciting!

[Then her ears droop.]
But I don't know any magic...
enjoymyatelier: no seriously what are you doing (uhhhhhhhh....)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-15 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
...hah, then maybe you will get impressive quarters. Really, though, I would hope they would account for sapient nonhumans in the ranks, given the mix we have already...

[...actually, he's kind of surprised there aren't more. that... is a bit surprising, though. He's not entirely sure how he feels about it --- on the one hand, non-magical sorts getting magic is offensive to his sensibilities, but on the other hand, she's a centaur, so...]

Ah, well, I think everyone here can learn a bit of magic regardless of their origins. It might have to do with Shards and whatnot, though I'm not entirely certain.
gallopingarcher: (Doesn't get it.)

[personal profile] gallopingarcher 2015-01-15 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds wonderful. My little cousin would always ask about the magic in stories!

[And her eyes go misty for a moment. So homesick. But then her ears flick and she looks like she's trying to puzzle something out.]

That's one thing I don't understand at all. How could there be a Shard of some... gem, I think it was?, inside me? Nothing ever showed up during my checkups!
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2015-01-19 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I wouldn't go into it unprepared. It can be a bit more dangerous and unpredictable than in fairy tales if you're new to it, but it's unbelievably useful when you actually know what you're doing.

[No reason to sugarcoat it, after all.]

And that's something I've been puzzled about, myself. The best I can imagine is that it's something that only really manifests when we're brought here, even though I'm not sure if it was always there or if it's something that was placed there through our arrivals.
gallopingarcher: (All sweetness.)

[personal profile] gallopingarcher 2015-01-21 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[She nods, sweetly intent on what she's being told.]

So I'll have to be careful and find a good teacher!

[The last bit takes a bit more puzzling though, and her ears flick back and forth as she thinks about it.]

But if a gem was put inside us, wouldn't there be some sign? I mean, it takes up space, doesn't it? Unless it's some kind of gh-ghost gem.

[She shivers a little at that. Ghost-stories are scary.]
