[The feast itself is wonderful, despite the circumstances, but she's allowing herself to enjoy it at face value. After spending so long beneath a dark cloud of anger and resentment, she's finally beginning to heal and allow herself enjoyment. Besides, they happen to have all of her favorite sweets. No doubt that's no coincidence.

And yet those few overheard words manage to bring her enjoyment to an abrupt halt, and suddenly her every nerve is on end. No... Sylvanas? Here? Surely that is no coincidence, either.

It isn't that she dreads to see her sister again, but knowing how they parted ways? Or rather, recalling how she left her sister and their business together unfinished? Surely there is no way that Sylvanas could forgive her as much as Vereesa hoped she would.

Perhaps she can excuse herself while her sister's attention is drawn to others... but in her haste she happens to knock over her drink, most definitely drawing unwanted attention to herself.]

[ She had been asking it of passerby -- rather an uninteresting sort, but certainly enthusiastic enough about the situation -- when the loud clang of a glass on the table distracts her. Turning to spot the creator of the noise, it's hard to ignore her own sister getting up from the feast; and even more so that her sister looks relatively uncomfortable with the situation. A quick glance around the room shows that there are no familiar faces lurking nearby, but she takes her time in standing up to be certain of it, taking a roundabout way to follow Vereesa.

It's possible, she considers, that her sister might not want to see her; after all, it has been so long since the two of them talked to one another. In that time, many things had happened -- and Sylvanas could honestly not blame Vereesa if she had no wish to see the abomination that her older sister had become. If their situations were reversed...no, but she wouldn't wish to think of that. Far better to stick to the reality of the situation.

Still, the connection between them remained, however faint and distant. And perhaps a lingering nostalgia was what drove her to get close enough to murmur only loud enough for Vereesa to hear. ]

A pleasant enough evening, for welcoming us to a war.

[How could she be so careless? She knows Sylvanas has seen her, and yet she still attempts to leave the tables, excusing herself between the various celebrants still passing between the aisles. She needs to put distance between them, for both their sakes.

But she doesn't fail to notice that she's being followed by the very person she's trying to avoid. She cannot imagine why--or perhaps she doesn't wish to imagine why. Of course there are words left to be said, curses to shout. Vereesa knows she's led her sister on, but for a time her decision to join her was genuine. That fact doesn't change anything, of course, so why is it that Sylvanas still pursues her?

She slows her pace until she comes to a stop altogether, allowing the gap between them to close somewhat. When Sylvanas speaks, it isn't a tone of hurt or anger, and that takes Vereesa by surprise.]

War is constant no matter where we are, it seems.

[ She notes the surprise as well, and that is almost off-putting enough that she considers ending the conversation right there and walking away. Her sister is obviously discomforted by her presence, something she should have expected but was naive, or foolish, enough to put aside for the sake of nostalgia.

So she takes a small step back and crosses her arms over her chest, a defensive barrier of sorts before the inevitable downfall that was going to happen. ]

It would seem they know that we are seasoned fighters, then. But many of the people here do not look like they want to fight.

They were likely brought here against their will, as I've overheard a few mention. Not that we were given much of a choice to begin with.

[She's noting that defensive stance; it's well-deserved. She feels a deep pang of guilt just then. As much as she cherished their short time together again, there is no way it could have ended favorably.

She opens her mouth to speak again. To ask for forgiveness? No apology seems great enough.]

If they had asked, do you think that half of this number would have come to assist in their endeavor?

[ She notes the open mouth and falls silent, waiting to see what her sister is going to say to span what feels like an insurmountable gap. ]
