In some ways, knowing is easier. But, I suppose, in some ways, not knowing who, but knowing that whoever they are, they will be the best suited is its own comfort.
[If it sounds like a round-about invitation to ask questions, that's because it is. Ronin is thinking about it, so he might as well share, but it's easier to share after a prompting to.]

[He knew some countries in the East treated kingship as another title, passed from parent to child.]

Apparently it's "all about the feeling."
[Though he's smiling, there's something heartbreakingly sad in his eyes.]
no subject
[because that sounds personal]

I am the General of the Leafmen; the Queen's safety, and the safety of the forest is my most important duty.
But I knew Queen Tara before she was given that honor, so it was always a little different with her.
[Which is a round-about way of saying that they were madly in love with each other, but Duty got in the way. And then there was death and... yeah. It hurts him so much, but he bravely smiles through it, trying to focus on the happy times.]

[he pauses, looking pained, and takes a sip of wine]
Forgive me. She died very shortly before my arrival to this place. She was a friend I'd known for many years, before I was Duke, as well as a loyal vassal to my duchy.
[Also, yeah, madly in love, couldn't be with one another, tragic deaths, etc.]
Were I at home, we would be preparing her funeral pilgrimage.
[And technically his own, since he had been dying when the fairies showed up, but details...]

I understand. They had very poor timing in bringing us here.
[Not as poor as it could have been, in Ronin's case, but to be torn from a funeral for someone so close-- He dips his head for a moment, sending up a mental word to Tara to look after this man's friend, if the afterlifes of different places touch.]
There aren't words that begin to express it, but, I do understand.

I would not have been able to attend to the matter, in any case. I was dying myself.
I wonder if my friends observed me being spirited away.
[that would worry them, especially as Sethra Lavode had just closed a hole to another world in that location. But, she would be able to advise. Perhaps even track the fairies to this realm.]
no subject
I have to wonder that too, and how many others were brought here with me. I haven't seen them.
[Ronin looks around and shrugs. It would take him quite a while to cross this place on foot, even without dodging all the big people. It would be easy to miss a Jinn or another Leafman.]
no subject
[because Ronin's people should be distinct from everyone else]
no subject
[It's the least he can do in return. More pairs of eyes would help. And it makes him feel less alone.]
