NEVER HAVE I EVER...

HOW TO PLAY:
in case the diagram is not enough
1. Everyone is at a big party. Courts? What courts? Forget about courts.
2. Post an IC comment with a subject that finishes the sentence "never have I ever".
3. If you see something your character has done, reply with them taking a shot! If they've done it many times, have them take many shots or down an entire bottle. Shots do not need to be alcohol, especially not for underage characters.
4. All characters must be honest. It's more fun that way. Don't look at me, the monarchs probably put some magic on the drinks.
5. Bother other people. Demand details. Don't wreck the house, please, and post warnings if things get 18+.

Assume I know nothing about science, which isn't far from the truth. What's the criteria?

[She brightens just a little.]

Ok, in fairness to you, the edges of that question are still the subject of some debate. But most scientists can agree on the basics. A living thing takes in energy from its environment, somehow, and can use that energy for growth and, at least on a species level, for reproduction in some form. And generally, living things are able to preserve a state of homeostasis in the face of entropy, at least within certain parameters. A living organism's body maintains and repairs its structure, within limits. Unliving organic matter decays back into its chemical building blocks with time and exposure.

Living things, at the risk of needlessly anthropomorphizing, want to keep being alive.

Two out of three isn't bad. Living it is, then.

There are borderline cases that are the focus of debate. Viruses, for one.

Wait, which one's not applicable?

[Now she's interested.]

Growth is the main one. Someone I know, they're what they'd call undead here and she eats, but she'll never age, never get sick. She can repair injury, but always back to the form she is now.
