[Alleys sound like a good plan to her, no need to be with the crowd. She follows Sua, walking in stride with His Majesty because WHO'S A GOOD DOG, IT'S HIM.]

I take it you're not a shardbearer if it's a family business?

Descended from, but four generations removed.

[It's definitely His Majesty! He keeps trying to get Rider to stop to give him more pets, all but dancing atop her feet and trying to get her to stop and ruffle his ears.]

Once a shardbearer's out of a court they're left to their own devices, so the spice trade seemed a secure money bringer for the family.

[OH NO WHAT A GOOD DOG okay she's just going to go ahead and scoop him up in her arms, actually.]

Huh. So where does that leave you in terms of the natives and the courts?

[There's a surprised yelp from His Majesty - he's no small pup! - but once it's clear Rider's got a grip on him, there's no happier pup.]

This island's been free from conflict for almost a century, in no small part because there's so few shardbearers here. It's where I've grown up, and it's where I'd like my brother's kids grow up.
