hahahaha
"And what's caffeine? Why would you put that in coffee?" The milk and sugar to help with the taste makes sense, though. He actually likes milk, for one.

"It's... an ingredient, I guess." Hard to describe a chemical to a kid. "It sort of gives you energy, that's why most people drink coffee."

He takes a tentative sip and when he tastes how rich it is his eyes go wide. He practically has to fight to put the cup down because it's not his drink. It's this woman's.
"That is good!" he says, any trace of the pout replaced by pure delight.

"You can have it if you want, kid." She didn't need it, and if he liked it, well, he was probably going to enjoy it more than she would. "I'm Emma, what's your name?"
no subject
"I think it's gonna be one of my favorites, too."
no subject
"You here on your own?"
Sorry this is late: going through the finals crunch!
"Why wouldn't I be?" Seriously. He knew how to take care of himself.
No worries. Best of luck!
"How old are you?" She wonders, brow tucking. "Your parents aren't here with you?"
no subject
"Aaaaand.... let's see...." He took a second to count on his fingers. Saria liked to measure his height when she'd realized he was growing as fast as a scrub when she took him in. Every turn of the season she used to carve his height onto a tree, even when she had started needing to reach up to do it.
"I guess I've seen eleven springs by now?" Not counting when he'd gone into the future or been in those loops in Termina, but it was the best guess he could come up with.
"Why? Is it important?"

She leans on her elbows, more on eye level that way as she considers her answer. He seems utterly nonchalant about his state of not having any parents or anyone to look after him. It sucks that it's normal for him to be alone, but it also means if she implies he needs somebody to watch out for him he'll probably be a little offended... Even if Emma thinks that a kid of eleven needs adult supervision.
"My son is eleven," she tells him with a weak smile, stained with a bit of unhappiness to be separated from him. "If he were here on his own I think he'd be lonely. I guess I just don't want you to be, especially when this place seems dangerous." Not this place, but outside of the station... hell he was recruited into a war. Who recruited eleven year olds for war?
I just want to say I love this thread so much.
Well, if he's honest, he is lonely. Even when he'd fought against that giant bully Ganondorf and traveled through Termina he hadn't been alone. He'd had someone by his side to help him.
Now? He's looking for Navi and he has no idea where to even start or if she's even here. He fully intends on helping the people here no matter what--he's a hero, after all--but his main goal is still trying to find his fairy.
"Your son's my age? What's he like?"
awww me too! Emma always is drawn to little heroes whoops.
What was Henry like? From most people, Emma would probably resist talking about her son. It was hard to think about him, and she was so protective of him she didn't especially want to share bits and pieces about him. He'd just gotten kidnapped, she thought it made sense she was a little apprehensive. She couldn't really deal with her worries that he was distant since Pan when she was here, but she still worried about him, even a world a way.
"Well," she says, considering her answer. "I guess he's a little shorter than you. He's got dark hair and he thinks he's the funniest kid on the planet, and sometimes he is." Emma smiles a little wistfully at that, thinking of the look on Henry's face when he makes a joke. "And he's a hero. Believe it or not, he found me, and he saved me." She didn't want to imagine her life without him... and now, well, she kind of had to. "I miss him a lot," she confessed to her small companion.

Mostly because the player hasn't figured that out just yet. "I'm looking for one in particular, though. I thought I saw her and that's how I wound up here." Yet another thing that he makes sound like it's just Tuesday for him. However, when she mentions that Henry is a hero Link sits up a little straighter, a grin on his face. Another kid who had saved people? Maybe they could be friends if he wound up here, too. At least Henry probably wouldn't give him weird looks if he could ever talk about the things he'd done for people.
"Did he fight a dragon, too?"
lol no worries
Henry is a hero to her, though perhaps not in the same way Link is. Her eyebrows rise, because while Emma has coincidentally fought a dragon, she's pretty sure that's not what he means. "No," she says with a pause, before tilting her head. "You've fought a dragon?"
no subject
And he missed her. She'd been the one constant throughout his travels through Hyrule and beyond, the only one who had seen that bad future and could vouch for him with what he'd seen. Then she disappeared and he had no idea where she was.
As to the dragon, well: "She helped me fight the dragon and other stuff, too."
Please believe him. He's so tired of grown ups not believing him when he's telling the truth.
