[ Well, yes. What is the universe but inventory? What's to be done with that inventory, as it is, is where they differ. Then again, it's not her job to impose that on others, least of all the businessmen who consider the stars and planets their own to plunder and consume.

Death comes up beside him, hands clasped behind her back as she regards the tiny holograms with amusement. Contracts, negotiations -- all the boring stuff people like to think are important when it's all words on paper and promises. Then again, promises are quite important, too, so maybe he's got something going right there. He is a familiar face; after all, he's given so very many of them to her, and she had been there when he came into existence. She will be there, too, when it's time.

[Poor Death, she must have quite a busy day whenever it's time for a harvest. Billions of lives, ended at the press of a button by one man who was stubbornly overstaying his welcome in the realm of the living by tens of thousands of years.

He might be a bit sheepish if he knew who he was talking to, if only because she would have been there when he ended the one life he actually felt bad about ending, too.]

[ Overstaying? No. He stays for as long as he needs to -- Death isn't the sort to pass judgement on him, anyway, because at the end of the day, all lives end, whether it's one or billions, and she knows, too, the regret he'd felt when he'd taken his mother's life.

She'd been there, and she'd been sympathetic, in general. Everything ends, and everything begins again. It's all very "better luck next time", only with more sincerity. Death smiles when she looks over at his holograms. ]
