TEST DRIVE MEME #8

TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping to EACHDRAIDH? Why not give the setting a test run here!

OPTIONAL SCENARIOS

01. ARRIVING IN THE DRABWURLD.
The Seelie and Unseelie courts welcome you not with mirthful revelry, this time around dear friends. There is a seriousness in the air, though the food is still hearty and the imps still mischievous. After you have been briefed on your purpose here, you will find an endless feast and a night filled with entertainment to placate your concerns. Mingle with new arrivals, sneak down the castle halls and make sure your eyes are always on your glass; fairies and imps have no bias when it comes to tricks!

02. THE STATION.
Looking for a little slice of home? The Station gives you all that and more. Take advantage of the wifi, have a cup of fairy-brewed coffee (the one they didn't spit in) or sit back and relax on the patio. You can even move your things into one of the available rooms!

03. WILDCARD.
Your own scenario! Explore the Drabwurld or simply take advantage of your Locket! Be mindful, though -- the monarchs are watching and cross court communication should be done with the utmost secrecy.

station - batman

[the station is, apparently, the only place in the drabwurld where the tech in is suit works. it's an inconvenience which leaves him at a disadvantage; in the back of his head, he can hear Bruce chastising him. worse than that he can hear Dick. so he's no stealth, he's got no sensors and he can't fly the moment he leaves the stations range.

so he sticks around, gets some coffee and holes himself up at a computer to download as much info as he can get. around about his sixth mug, you might hear him mutter:]
I am totally slagged.

[If you listen closer, you might hear him groan:] What would the old man do?

locket - batman

why is this happening to me

Shake his head in disappointment, probably, [Jason says, trying to sound casual, but from behind, it's obvious that that is someone dressed up as a Bat. The sight of it caught him off guard at first, but he refocuses. The voice doesn't sound like Bruce. His body language is nothing like Bruce. In fact, it's nothing like anyone he's met—but Jason knows he's been out of the loop for a while.

And maybe longer. What does he know?]

Assuming your old man is everyone's old man. [With a devil-may-care attitude, he moves behind Terry to press his hand on the desk, and he leans in close to him. Jason wishes he had his mask for occasions like this, but The Red Hood is all too associated with his battlefield antics. Being here in the Station wearing it wouldn't be good.

But he takes the risk, eyes dropping to the red bat on this guy's chest.]
Ah, and looks like he is. Nice.

[Terry tenses; it's the proximity more than what Jason's saying. He turns, casual and frowns, because he has no idea what Jason's saying until he sees his eyes glance down to the bat. He doesn't have a familiar face; even as he accesses his facial recognition and memory files, he can't place it.

But he knows the symbol. He could be talking generally instead of specifically about Bruce.

He is right about the disappointment though, and Terry honestly doesn't want to think about it. ]

You get into people's personal space a lot, man?

[Casual, casual. The facial recognition comes up blank and Terry decides to improvise. ]

You gotta buy a guy dinner before you get this close.

[personal profile] uneulogized 2015-07-09 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a whole lotta places to do that here. I'm improvising. [In a swift, fluid motion, he draws his arm back while turning to lean against the desk, half-sitting on it. Out of the corner of his eye, he's taking in the screen and the information. It's clear that this guy doesn't want to go without. He's getting intel, but that suit—oh, that suit. It's new and different. Jason's trying to decide what he's made of it.

He's just not there yet.]

But I've got a thing for pointy ears, you follow? They're eyecatching.
schways: (( 41 ))

[personal profile] schways 2015-07-10 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Why does this always happen to him? He leans back, very purposefully and takes the time to memorise Jason's face. The eyes, the hair -- there's a certain look about him that is familiar for all he doesn't recognize him. Uncomfortably familiar.

He doesn't want to say that Bruce has a type, but Terry's seen himself in the mirror. ]

Awh, you're a fan.

[The tone's cocky, almost light-hearted. ]
uneulogized: (stalking on in.)

[personal profile] uneulogized 2015-07-10 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Of the symbol and all that it means? Sure, I love it. The actual guy who should be wearing it? He has a way of working things that you wouldn't believe. [The way he phrases things is partly for theatrics, and partly to see how this Batman will respond. Jason crosses his arms over his chest and keeps on smirking.]

Something tells me you're ... second-rate. Why, I found you this easily. I could think of five better ways to get what you're digging up. [He quirks a thumb toward the computer.]

And make it actually worth your while. What're you gonna do? Live here?
schways: (( 37 ))

[personal profile] schways 2015-07-10 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's a slow sort of realization that hits him. Well, two relizations. The first is: this guy is way nuts. The second is: this guy is one of Bruce's dregs. He groans and slouches down in his seat, a gloved hand coming up to cover his face. There's two ways to deal with it; Bruce's way would be to close up, shields up and not entertain the dramatics.

He's not Bruce though and Terry loves to talk.]

Why does this always happen to me?

[It's an innocent enough question. They've already established that he's Not That Batman. He can afford to be a little more Terry. ]

I could live here just fine and never face an outdoor toilet. Ever.

[There's something about Jason, though -- something that reminds him of old news vids of Tim as Robin. He peaks out between his fingers. ]

But I get feeling you've been slumming it here for a while, so I'm listening fanboy.
uneulogized: (ah i'm kidding dude.)

[personal profile] uneulogized 2015-07-10 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Slumming it," huh, [Jason murmurs. The choice of words is decidedly not in poor Terry's favor. Already judging him for daring to wear that symbol—Jason has entertained ideas of becoming Batman himself already, but he's thrown aside those plans multiple times—he finds himself judging this guy further because of the clear indications of classism. The one guy to not do that with, and Terry did it.

Poor Terry.]

I don't know why I should be helping you. Shouldn't you be a master of problem solving? That is what your ego is telling you, isn't it? [An edge seeps into his voice. He doesn't like him now, that much is clear. That flirtatious mocking has passed, now replaced with obvious agitation.]

[Train, meet immovable object. ]

What is with the 'tude?

[He's just -- not going to dignify any of that with an answer. He's already well aware he's not as good as Bruce at all of this. ]

uneulogized: (this almost looks like a flask.)

[personal profile] uneulogized 2015-07-12 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
So far, this world's been pretty damn lucky in not having a Batman. And then you—[Jason raises his hand and pokes Terry hard on the shoulder]—show right up and cause some problems. Just by sitting here, even. And Unseelie at that? [He smirks. It's revealing a hand he doesn't like to reveal, but he's banking on this Batguy not knowing how the whole shard thing works. He's really certain it'll work in his favor.]

Wow, you really are second rate. Look, lemme do you a favor and give you some advice. Drop the costume, get along with some cute little tights or whatever without that symbol, and enjoy the show here. We don't need some loser calling himself Batman. We're good.

[ Fresh from her weapon of mass destruction not obliging her with an appearance in this new world, she settled grumpily in a nearby seat, arms folded in openly telegraphed irritability. ]

You know what? You're right.

[ She's actually caught off guard by his easy acquiescence, dispelling a little bit -- but certainly not all -- of the annoyance she feels about Villkiss not appearing on command. She sits down near him, head in one hand, still radiating irritation. But from the way her eyes keep flicking resentfully to one of the train platforms, it's probably clear that she's not angry at him. ]

They probably didn't bring him, anyway.

[ Like Salia or Salako or anyone else who would try to tell her to do anything different. ]

Too old to fight. He'd deny it, but -- yeah.

[Bruce would never admit he'd be a liability in battle. But, he would be. ]

You just arrive here too?
ragnarock: (pero pero)

[personal profile] ragnarock 2015-07-10 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She frowned for a moment. Now that he mentioned it, most of the people she'd seen around Care Snicker had been young or middle-aged. It sent a brief, silent chill up her spine -- if this war had been going on for a while, if people had been dragged her for a while, there should be a few old ones. If there weren't... it might mean that people settled down elsewhere once they acclimated to this world. Or it might mean that they die young. She shook off the thought. People had died young in droves at Arzenal, too. She just had to keep beating the odds.

She shrugged, forced her frown back to a neutral expression, and put that morbid line of thought to the back of her mind. ]

Slagged? [ Now that's an interesting turn of phrase, though let's be honest, this whole place is full of interesting phrasings. ] That's a new adjective.

[ When he looks up from where he'd been reading through his notes, though, his amused grin freezes across his face for a moment. Batman. Except--not. There's no cape, the symbol's different, the bodyshape and voice and everything is different. But that's undoubtedly Batman. Or someone...affiliated with Batman?

Kaldur's voice whispers in the back of his mind, reminding him of alternate universes and temporal displacements. ]

...So, uh. You new here?
schways: (( 17 ))

[personal profile] schways 2015-07-10 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's an equally frozen look on Terry's face when he turns to answer because -- he knows that face, he's seen it in old photographs and news clippings that Bruce keeps. That Dick keeps. For a long moment, he thinks that it can't be possible. How can Dick Grayson be in his forties one minute and barely through puberty in the next?

Fairy's. That's how. ]

-- Uh. Yeah, new. Hi.

[Time travel is one more option, he guesses. ]

[ He gives a little, stilted wave. ]

Hi. This is...slightly awkward. Don't mind me. I'm just a little surprised.

[ Dick waves at the symbol, then up at Terry's mask--mostly the ears. ]

So, you're Bat...boy? Batguy? Batteen? Bat-something?
schways: (( 41 ))

[personal profile] schways 2015-07-10 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Batman.

[He doesn't wave back; he's too busy running facial recognition and voice matching. The results are conclusive. ]

You're -- Robin, right? The first one.

[Is that a spoiler? Is he allowed to say that?]
dicktionary: (pic#6645243)

[personal profile] dicktionary 2015-07-10 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[ He does kind of wish he had his suit and mask--his sunglasses at the very least. It hadn't bothered him so far, but right now, faced with a fully masked Bat, he's feeling oddly naked. ]

Though it's the only one, so far.

[ At least Kaldur's told him about Jason already, so it's not-- It's not as strange as it might otherwise have been. ]

How far along in the future are you from?

[ What happened to Bruce? he carefully doesn't ask. ]
schways: (( 49 ))

[personal profile] schways 2015-07-10 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I figured.

[He pauses, hesitates. How much information is appropriate? ]

You're not as fresh faced and wide-eyed. Still got a mean high-kick, though, for someone pushing fifty.

[And Bruce -- Bruce is Bruce. ]

So I'm pretty far.
dicktionary: (pic#6651057)

[personal profile] dicktionary 2015-07-10 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Fifty. Hey, good to know I'm still spry. And yeah, you definitely are.

[ He stands to offer his hand, though he's still quite a bit shorter than Terry. Look, Dick doesn't hit his growth spurt for at least another year or so. Maybe more. ]

Dick Grayson, fourteen years old.

[ Everyone else here knows, anyway. And he's willing to bet this guy does too, if he already recognized him as Robin. ]

Straight to the point but still too vague to make heads or tails of.

Don't suppose anyone's told you you have a knack for asking the right questions the wrong way.
