TEST DRIVE MEME #8

TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping to EACHDRAIDH? Why not give the setting a test run here!

OPTIONAL SCENARIOS

01. ARRIVING IN THE DRABWURLD.
The Seelie and Unseelie courts welcome you not with mirthful revelry, this time around dear friends. There is a seriousness in the air, though the food is still hearty and the imps still mischievous. After you have been briefed on your purpose here, you will find an endless feast and a night filled with entertainment to placate your concerns. Mingle with new arrivals, sneak down the castle halls and make sure your eyes are always on your glass; fairies and imps have no bias when it comes to tricks!

02. THE STATION.
Looking for a little slice of home? The Station gives you all that and more. Take advantage of the wifi, have a cup of fairy-brewed coffee (the one they didn't spit in) or sit back and relax on the patio. You can even move your things into one of the available rooms!

03. WILDCARD.
Your own scenario! Explore the Drabwurld or simply take advantage of your Locket! Be mindful, though -- the monarchs are watching and cross court communication should be done with the utmost secrecy.

—Was she supposed to be? [The way that Dancer is looking at him tells him yes, but the question bursts out before he can say anything about it. After a beat, he adds:] I've never met a queen before. That would actually be pretty cool.

Why shouldn't she? Is she too good to grace us with her presence right after pulling us into her war?

[Sorry for the bitterness. He seems to catch himself pretty quickly, because he grimaces and glances away as if embarrassed to be so intense about it.]

Maybe I'm holding her up to a particularly high standard. I met the queen where I came from, and I like to think she's better than most.

[The first set of questions is met with a very animated shrug. Bobby obviously doesn't know the answer to that question, but it sounds like a matter that's important to this guy, so he actually keeps his mouth shut on the string of queen-related jokes that come to mind.

(As a hint, most of them involve "Bohemian Rhapsody.")]

We, uh, don't really have queens where I come from. Unless you're in England, and then it's ... [After a moment, he raises his hand like he's drinking tea with his pinkie out, and he's put on a really awful British accident:] You bloody well better respect the queen! Cheerio and top of the morning to you! I'll have my tea now.

[The specifics of the joke are flying right over his head, but the point is pretty obvious. And while he can't say how accurate the impression is, it's silly enough to drag a grin out of him, and he leans back against the balcony railing with new ease.]

I think I get it. [More or less.] The southern countries back home didn't really have queens either. They have kings instead.

[Southerners have funny ideas.]

accident = accent* though i'm sure it sounded like an accident.

... You only have one or the other? [That is a little strange for Bobby to grasp. In all of the stories he knows, there's usually a queen and a king.]

What about democracy? Ever heard of that? It's all the rage! Without the raging emotions, unless you're really, really upset. I, uh, guess.

just don't do any impressions for people from any version of earth and you're fine

I believe they call the kings' wives "queen" in the south, but the king is still the one with all the power. They don't bother with the false titles in the Fells, though -- the queen's husband is just the royal consort, that's all.

[And he gives Bobby a curious look, dark brows arching over blue eyes.]

"Democracy"?

[Crap, he has to explain democracy to someone. Bobby knows he really stepped in it.]

Democracy ... the whole idea is that the people get to vote in the people they want in power. [Basically.

Only it's more complicated than that. Please accept his crappy explanation, Dancer.]
