[Lia purses her lips as he hesitates, not offended buti she supposes customs do very. She sweeps into a little curtsy, holding her skirts out of the way.]

[Though isn't that a bizarre name?]

I assume you are newly arrived?

[It does sound strange coming from someone like her. Maybe he should have given his Vale name.]

You could say that.

["Arrived" is such a mild way of putting it, given the circumstances, but it's not technically incorrect. He friends, and his hand idly goes up again to touch on his amulet for a few seconds, like a deeply ingrained habit.]

It is nice to meet you, anyway, even if it is not much of your choice to be here.

[She can still be friendly, she hopes. Still offer some bit of civility and some familiarity though perhaps nothing will be familiar to him.]

That is lovely. Your necklace.

[A vague gesture. Compliments are good, right?]

[He almost asks which one, because he does have a few on. But then-- right, the bigger shiny one that he's got a hand on. Yes. That would make sense.]

Ah...thank you. It was a gift.

[Are wizards not a thing here? He can't imagine anyone back home so casually bringing up a wizard's amulet. Then again, he can't imagine most people having such a casual, friendly conversation with a wizard period.]

A gift rather well suited to you.

[There are beads around her neck. A rosary, tucked into the low neckline of her dress. She wants to drag it out, almost unconsciously, but she resists the urge. It feels like she has mentioned something she perhaps should not have, but she can't imagine how to fix it.]

How are you liking the feast?

[A small, crooked grin crosses his face at the irony of that statement -- it was made just for Han, for Hunts Alone, right down to the long hunter carved into the semiprecious stone. Dancer had only been given it because the amulet that had been made just for him was lost.

But she couldn't know, of course, that he isn't the lone hunter it was meant for, so he won't step on her attempts at small talk.]

It's nice enough when you get past the reason for us all being here.

[But that's not really a pleasant direction to take a nice conversation, and so more pleasantly, he pushes on with an idle nod of his head.]

The people seem friendly.

[psalmed]

The reason being the war or that people did not really believe they could never return?

[She's heard rage against both. And she nods, taking a glass of wine and drinking heavily. Everyone is friendly, certainly, and there is food and drink that is plentiful and things really could be much worse.]

I doubt the Unseelie would be so friendly to you at this moment but there are a good number of people here who wish to be kind.

A little of both. The kidnapping doesn't help much either.

[He has a dry sense of humor, evident only by the glint in his eye when his face is otherwise straight as can be.]

They wouldn't be so friendly if I was one of them instead of here? Or they wouldn't be so friendly because I'm one of this bunch now?

[Either way, neither is his fault, and he's done with apologizing for other people's dislike of him when he hasn't done anything wrong. But there's a big difference between being hated for being one of the enemy and being hated because the group in question is just a bunch of assholes.]

Most of us, no.

[But some want to leave. Need permission. Lia knows nothing is waiting for her at home but she has sympathy for those with unfinished business. Being dead and being here are similar, after all.]

You are an enemy now. And though they are not monsters...they are still on another side.

[There is still caution to be taken because there are those who will offer you drink and those who will offer you poison. But she doesn't wish to overwhelm him just yet.]

They aren't my enemies. I don't even know them.

[He says it stubbornly, turning his gaze down to to his plate where he's picking through his food halfheartedly.]

They are not my enemies either. Some of them are even my friends.

[There's always a counter coming, however.]

But some of them? Would not hesitate to kill me where I stood even though I had done nothing to them.
