REINCARNATED AS A NATIVE

YOU WERE BORN A NATIVE

You were born in the wilds, or the unmapped hamlets; or perhaps one of the grand cities of ALLAIDH DARACH. But you were never the master of your own destiny; and your world has been marred by war almost since its first turns.

OPTIONAL SCENARIOS

01. DAILY LIFE.
Did you pledge yourself to a court? Are you a guard or a soldier? Or perhaps your a simple tradesman hoping the breadth of the war never touches you and yours. You were an adult young, remember, by 13 or 14: do you have a family? Are you afraid of the Void, or relieved by it? What is your life like, or your relation to the courts?

02. BATTLE.
Perhaps some court armies are ransacking your home, and all you can do is flee the blades and the fires. Or perhaps you've been conscripted and been given rough armour and arms, and told to charge the strangers on the opposite side. What god to you pray to, hoping for protection against fearsome shardbearer magic and might? Do you survive?

03. THE FEASTS.
Perhaps you've been travelling and been offered sanctuary at the castles; or are there on some important business. Whatever the reason, you're at one of the castles for one of the legendary feasts of welcome for far-worlder shardbearers, and get to eat and drink your fill as they take it all in.

03. WILDCARD.
Your own scenario!

[The quick native version bio, for all your tagging needs:
-Tiny Waver grew up outside of Mair. Lost parents young, and ended up hauling ass to the Station and maturing there.
-As a result? Total fascination with Far Worlds technology. Decently read in all manner of books, and the Station is still very much home. This also sort of short changed his magic, which he's still struggling to catch up on learning as an adult.
-Since age 19 or so, after being dragged out of the Station for a few weeks by a now-passed mentor, he's been trying to travel to every corner of the Drabwurld. He publishes travel diaries out of Treun once he's seen a whole region, to try and bring people with him via writing. It also gives him an income.
-The income is often supplemented with odd jobs. He's definitely gotten stuck in a few battles before, which are the least fun things around.]

[ Parties never get any easier for Rin. She's a pretty and young thing which means most of the time is spent skirting the line between flirts. Talking doesn't bother her too much as she's quick with her tongue, neither does a kiss here or there. It's only when they try to pull her away from her work that she's bothered and tonight she is most definitely working. With recent fears of cultists infiltrating parties to manipulate the good (read: noble) folk of this world, most social gatherings have a magician or two in the midst of the crowd to counter it.

Rin isn't the best at the job, but she fits in nicely having come from a wealthy background herself. No one would blink an eye at the presence of a Tohsaka so a cultist could easily suspect this event was unguarded.

It's that illusion that makes Rin's job difficult. Suitors, both women and men, won't leave her alone. She's beyond the age she should marry and while comparisons to local witches don't help her cause any, Rin's not sure she's ready to settle down. After a close encounter that almost broke down the walls she uses to guard herself, she hides under one of the refreshment tables in order to catch her breath. That one was a good kisser. Too good of a kisser--she'll have to keep an eye out for him later.

Focused on her thoughts, she doesn't notice the trip hazard her feet are creating by sticking out just a bit.

[Waver's been to Treun before, back in his earlier travels. The city, well, she's changed. Refugees from Leathann (the Void taking it is such a given), new laws to cope with that, but in the parties, the spirit of the city hasn't changed.

The food hasn't either. And that was his primary reason for sneaking into the event. All too easy to rent some clothes or else cobble something suitable together, slide in with a group, and then act as if he's always been there. Such a skill has been invaluable for years.

He does, however, not notice the feet that are sticking out from under the table. So he almost falls over them entirely, catching himself just in time. He hisses out a soft swear, then goes about his business filling his plate. The feet get a cursory glance, and an icy:]

Your feet are a hazard.

So are those pants with those shoes. [ Equally as cold, but soon there's a head peeking out from underneath to glare up at him. ]

And that jacket. Who dressed you? Fire them.
gordianknots: I'll take it as it comes (You can take your lamb of God)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
I can't really fire myself, you know.

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Nobles tend to not dress themselves unless they're short of finances--which is something you shouldn't be admitting out loud to a strange woman under a table.

[ Just who is this guy? He doesn't act like he dresses. ]

[Waver flashes a sharp smile at that statement, and pointedly takes a bite of the little canape he's snagged for himself.]

Well, I haven't been able to get to my publisher's lately, so I'm a little short on income.

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
So you relinquished the services of your handmaid? [ Watching him eat reminds her just how hungry she is, though she makes no move to get out from her spot just yet. ]
gordianknots: Of just who you have become (The dice are loaded)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Unfortunately.

[Handmaid. Ha. Ha. Waver sighs, and continues staring downwards.]

Would you like something to eat?

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Do you offer all ladies who are rude to you something to eat?

[ Probably. ]
gordianknots: The company you keep (You'll never miss)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, just ladies who seem rather comfortable where they are and aren't likely to move any time soon.

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
[ Is that an insult? She can't tell. ] Um...

I'll have you know I'm doing some important work down here.
gordianknots: Fate/strange fake manga (Take what I need with me)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Not at all.]

Well then I'll have to leave you be.

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm not finished with you.

[ Peering up towards him. ] A bite of something to eat while I interrogate you would be a kind gesture.
gordianknots: Sing your society song (Because you don't know what building is)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
What would you like?

[personal profile] independant 2015-08-27 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Something sweet with a bit of tartness behind it.

[ Trusting the fate of her tongue to a stranger. ] You mentioned a publisher earlier. Does that mean you're a writer?
gordianknots: Oh well, I'm glad I don't belong (You can take your swords and spears)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-08-27 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
There's some fruit tarts further down that I think have a lemon custard base. That sound about right?

[Even if it doesn't, Waver's going to woof down about five.] And yes, yes I am.

[the next installment is out. this is what gets her eye more than anything else in the bookshop, even as she'd been looking at another piece of fiction. the diaries were a combination of useful and entertaining - and together, she was undeniably hooked on them.

so Grell puts down the novel she'd been pondering and takes the newest of the travel diaries to the shop owner for purchase, unable to stop herself from cracking it open as she walks out of the shop, drawing off to the side to at least be able to read the foreword before she goes anywhere.]
gordianknots: That's for you and the truth (You can win and win and win again)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-09-07 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nominally, Waver's in the bookshop so he can get something to read on his voyage to Leathann. It's time to make another trip, perhaps the last for a decade at least, and to delve into everything he's missed so far.

But well, he likes to watch other people leaf through books too. It's fun to see what catches the attention of others. A selfish part of him likes to see when it's his work.

So when he sees Grell going through one of his works - the one on Cothromach, recently published but already in need of updating - he tries not to watch. It makes him so obvious.]

[bio:
-assassin/merc who got into the job after being a priestess wasn't going to happen. decently known in shadier circles due to being efficient.
-got cursed a decade back after running afoul of the wrong person, so she has no voice. uses sign language/notes/telepathy to get around the block, the last is subject to screwing up.
-reads practically whatever her hands can get on to kill time when traveling, which she has to do quite a bit.
-keeps taking stupidly risky jobs where she would die if her luck didn't kick in.
-still incredibly devout, though she tries not to show it.]
erythristic: (checking while sober)

[personal profile] erythristic 2015-09-07 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[too obvious, she knows when someone's got their eyes on her. so she pulls herself away after finishing a sentence and looks up to him, slightly questioning before she tilts the book upward so he can better see the title. she's done enough time in bookshops to know the most common question is what are you reading, and so this tends to answer things swiftly.]
gordianknots: (For a banned book)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-09-07 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. You know, it's out of date already?

[Waver says it with a smile, happy to admit how badly he mucked this one up.]
erythristic: (idea.)

[personal profile] erythristic 2015-09-07 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[her eyebrow goes up. it didn't seem out of date. but if he was from Cothromach, it'd make more sense.]
gordianknots: I will not sing along (But the smell of leather is intoxicating)

[personal profile] gordianknots 2015-09-07 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
S'the problem with travel books, sadly. You print them, then some shardbearer mucks everything up before you can write corrections.
erythristic: (quiet.)

[personal profile] erythristic 2015-09-07 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[the implications aren't lost, and she shuts the book in her hands, gesturing to it and then him. he's the author? he's the one whose books she's been so avidly reading? if it's so, then goodness. how marvelous that they were drawn to the same shop on the same day.]
