OPTIONAL SCENARIOS

01. ARRIVING IN THE DRABWURLD.
The grand feast is held in the Eaglais clearing. The food is good, the music is sweet, and the evening is lit by gentle fairy lights. All Shardbearers of all courts are summoned here under a universal truce for the evening. Nature itself has shaped itself into tables, chairs, and long couches so that the new guests can rest. When they’re ready to call it a night, Shardbearers are brought to their court strongholds in a one-way trip by fairies and imps.

02. NETWORK
Take advantage of your Locket! The network can be accessed by any Shardbearer with a locket or shardless characters with enchanted devices, and is a quick way to meet new people and discuss the state of the world.

03. WILDCARD.
Your own scenario! Explore the Drabwurld! There are lots of places to go, and plenty of trouble to get into in them!

Athelstan | Vikings

feast.

[There was a time when Athelstan could be at his ease in a crowd. On Lindsifarne, or even when traveling, he had never felt out of place among his brothers. He had a purpose then. Even among the Northmen there had been a certain security in his position as the new earl's favorite thrall. Ragnar and his family may not have been his first choice for refuge, but they've become familiar and safe in a world that is anything but.

And now even that slight bit of stability is gone. His world has shifted again.

He stands off to one side of the main festivities, not daring to eat or drink. At some earlier point a drunken stranger pressed a goblet of wine into his hands, but it remains untouched. For now all that he will do is watch, observant and (God willing) unobserved in turn.]

[Maybe it is because Diarmuid comes from a time before Athelstan's god was worshiped in his part of the world or maybe it is just because he is observant himself, but it doesn't take him long to notice the man standing so apart from the rest of the feast. Diarmuid might have left him in peace if he did not seem so uneasy and out of place, but seeing him such draws the knight to him in hopes of easing his mind some.

As he approaches, he smiles and holds out a plate.]

If you do not wish to celebrate, at least eat. Things may not be so dire here as they were a short time ago, but you still should keep your strength up. It is hard to say what tomorrow may hold.

[Athelstan takes the plate reflexively, though he doesn't eat. Not yet. He's still too on edge, even if he has been given something that might be interpreted as an order. His entire life has been based around obedience -to God, to the monastery, to his fellow monks, to Ragnar- but now his wariness overcomes even that most basic instinct.]

I... Things were dire here? [And the unspoken question is there as well. And they might be dire again?

[As Athelstan takes the plate from Diarmuid, a sudden loud burst of laughter causes Diarmuid to turn from him for a moment. As he turns, a set of three odd red scars are revealed on the right side of his face stretching from just below his cheekbone over his jaw and down his neck. In some ways, they look more like tattoos than scars. It also reveals his right arm is silver, obviously a replacement for one he lost at some point even if it moves as if it is something Diarmuid was born with. Once the laughter fades, Diarmuid turns back with a sheepish look.]

Sorry. Yes, recently a great battle came to a climax. It changed everything about this place, and now we start again to try and prevent that battle from ever happening.

HELLO THERE!

( Stability is such a fragile construct; one which at times can be more of an idea and less of a tangible force. In the last two months, the last vestiges of it had been torn apart, and then turned upside-down. None yet have their bearings in this new world. Thus, the new arrivals have much more in common with those who have been here for years than they might believe. For Lagertha's part, she has yet to decide what she intends to set as a purpose for herself here. No course is yet.

And she has come here, other than for the fine fare, in hopes that Björn might have come at last. She is neither surprised, nor unhappy to find that he has not. He belongs with his father, and with his daughter.

What does eventually surprise her, as she wanders about with her horn of mead, is to see another familiar face altogether. One, so Ragnar had said, none would ever see again. Her expression is calm, masking her dumbfounded state for the most part, as she moves toward him. But in nearing him, a little smile softens her features, and she raises her horn to him. )

Are you not going to drink that? ( She asks, rather than wonder aloud at how he is here and not in his Heaven. Tact is such a wonderful thing. Lagertha breaks the ice by taking a hearty sip of her own mead, and thereafter moves to stand at his side. ) You should.

It is good to find you here, Priest. You look well.

lagerthaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (thank you for not telling him he's dead)

[personal profile] vikingbabysitter 2015-11-16 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[He startles instinctively when Lagertha addresses him, the flinch of someone grown uneasy with being singled out in a crowd, but as soon as he realizes who she is Athelstan relaxes noticeably. Familiar. Safe. He barely registers that her reaction upon seeing him is a bit warmer than usual, especially since he saw her and the rest of her family in the hall such a short time ago.]

Thank you. I am well. [Or at least marginally better now.]

She'll never tell him that nope

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-11-16 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
( He looks young, and reacts strangely to her. Lacking the warmth with which she has become very much accustomed in the months before his death. Is this what happens to Christians when they die? Lagertha is all curiosity. )

As much as one can be when they first arrive. I understand. ( As before, it is clear that he is made of strong stuff. She bestows a small smile upon him, watching the crowd as he does. )

It is a lot to take in, but I'll answer whatever questions you might have. I've been here for half a year now, nearly.

( Whatever it is that's off about him, it draws out the protective side of her. He is Ragnar's friend, and loved by her son. No harm shall come to him. )
vikingbabysitter: (enthralled (get it?))

this is why you're the best

[personal profile] vikingbabysitter 2015-11-16 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Half a year? [If he didn't know for a fact that he hasn't touched his drink he would be getting suspicious by now.] But I saw you just a few moments before arriving here. I'd stepped out to fetch some wood and then...

[Very little has made sense since his arrival, but her words are only making it worse even if she meant for them to comfort. If possible he looks even more lost than before.]

[personal profile] ex_halberd259 2015-11-21 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
And prior to my arrival here, I hadn't seen you in four years. ( She reaches to place a gentle hand upon his arm, a touch meant to be comforting. ) The ways of this place frequently make no sense.

In fact, you and I are standing in the past of this world. Before a month ago, it was much different. But there was a great war between the gods of this world, and we had thought it would be destroyed.

Instead, the wishes we made sent us back in time. Come, I will explain as much to you as I can. Though little of it may make sense to you.
