Athelstan | Vikings
[There was a time when Athelstan could be at his ease in a crowd. On Lindsifarne, or even when traveling, he had never felt out of place among his brothers. He had a purpose then. Even among the Northmen there had been a certain security in his position as the new earl's favorite thrall. Ragnar and his family may not have been his first choice for refuge, but they've become familiar and safe in a world that is anything but.
And now even that slight bit of stability is gone. His world has shifted again.
He stands off to one side of the main festivities, not daring to eat or drink. At some earlier point a drunken stranger pressed a goblet of wine into his hands, but it remains untouched. For now all that he will do is watch, observant and (God willing) unobserved in turn.]

As he approaches, he smiles and holds out a plate.]
If you do not wish to celebrate, at least eat. Things may not be so dire here as they were a short time ago, but you still should keep your strength up. It is hard to say what tomorrow may hold.

I... Things were dire here? [And the unspoken question is there as well. And they might be dire again?

Sorry. Yes, recently a great battle came to a climax. It changed everything about this place, and now we start again to try and prevent that battle from ever happening.
HELLO THERE!
And she has come here, other than for the fine fare, in hopes that Björn might have come at last. She is neither surprised, nor unhappy to find that he has not. He belongs with his father, and with his daughter.
What does eventually surprise her, as she wanders about with her horn of mead, is to see another familiar face altogether. One, so Ragnar had said, none would ever see again. Her expression is calm, masking her dumbfounded state for the most part, as she moves toward him. But in nearing him, a little smile softens her features, and she raises her horn to him. )
Are you not going to drink that? ( She asks, rather than wonder aloud at how he is here and not in his Heaven. Tact is such a wonderful thing. Lagertha breaks the ice by taking a hearty sip of her own mead, and thereafter moves to stand at his side. ) You should.
It is good to find you here, Priest. You look well.
lagerthaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa (thank you for not telling him he's dead)
Thank you. I am well. [Or at least marginally better now.]
She'll never tell him that nope
As much as one can be when they first arrive. I understand. ( As before, it is clear that he is made of strong stuff. She bestows a small smile upon him, watching the crowd as he does. )
It is a lot to take in, but I'll answer whatever questions you might have. I've been here for half a year now, nearly.
( Whatever it is that's off about him, it draws out the protective side of her. He is Ragnar's friend, and loved by her son. No harm shall come to him. )
this is why you're the best
[Very little has made sense since his arrival, but her words are only making it worse even if she meant for them to comfort. If possible he looks even more lost than before.]

In fact, you and I are standing in the past of this world. Before a month ago, it was much different. But there was a great war between the gods of this world, and we had thought it would be destroyed.
Instead, the wishes we made sent us back in time. Come, I will explain as much to you as I can. Though little of it may make sense to you.
