Alyosha Hazan // OC // Angelite Syndicate
But despite her decidedly career-military posture, straight-backed against a wall, observing with dark eyes shocked wide, she seemed... ill. There was a burst vein in the yellowed white of one eye, and the sockets of her eyes were blue-black, almost bruised by internal damage to the vein.
A bizarre juxtaposition of youth and advancing age, smoothly fine skin blemished with age-spots, fine hands starting to go thin and frail-seeming.
She held herself well apart, back against the wall, unspeaking but when directly addressed. Quite clearly one of those who presumed this madness either a psychotic break or some other manner of hallucinated fiction. ]]

But she looked more freaked out than anything, in that way that Isabelle or even Jace might have displayed it, stiff and hyper-alert like an on-edge soldier. And maybe his newfound immortality made him a bit fearless, so that he could approach this strange space-age woman like he might a wounded animal.]
Hey, you okay?
no subject
Civilian.
[[ It sounded half-reverent, rolling off her tongue, or like a high title. 'Your Majesty' could be uttered in a tone like that... though only by scraping servants. ]]
I cannot provide immediate diagnostics, sir; my tac-com equipment appears damaged. I have not yet been informed of where class 9 soldiers may report for routine dialysis and related medical services and am awaiting acknowledgement by superiors. Local computers are unresponsive to voice command or holo-interfacing.
no subject
Okay, that was a whole lot of a sci-fi babble and I actually understood maybe half of it. But I'm pretty sure electronics don't work here, if that's what you're wondering.
[Almost too casual, still with all a teenager's absolute irreverence despite everything. But in his defense, he was pretty sure trying to blindly mimic her soldier talk would just make him look like a tool.]
no subject
Civilian.
Forgive my impertinence: interpersonal humor might be better served among your peers. Class-9 military bioproducts require such medical services...
[[ But almost as she said it, the words lit up some doubt in her, and though her facial features fought to remain impassive, a worried furrow creased her brow. ]]
... Is... Or is my obsolescence the issue, sir? Am I unfit for deployment? Until the issue of the civilian fleet, my record was above reproach, despite the issue of my age...
no subject
But for all his little oddities, his perplexed and vaguely concerned expression was so very human.]
Woah, woah, relax. You're not...obsolete, or anything like that. I have no idea what you're talking about.
no subject
That is... that is good to hear. I worried, have worried, for years. I am no longer... no longer efficient, I imagine.
no subject
I'm pretty sure anyone who actually worries about whether or not they're "efficient" is definitely more efficient than the rest of us.
[Translation: chill, you're doing fine.]

Though he doesn't recognize the woman, the military posture is one he's familiar with given his own life as a SOLDIER. More than her strange appearance, however, she doesn't seem well, and that is enough to prompt him to approach.
A large blade hangs from his back, but his demeanor is gentle enough. She must be a new arrival, and he doesn't want to startle her. ]
Hey. Is there anything you need some help with?
no subject
Civilian Commander.
[[ The words of address sounded like a designation of rank; and by her stiff formality, one assigned to a far superior officer. ]]
I've been awaiting command and assignment to a medbay. None of my tac-comms appear to be functioning, and local computers don't respond to vocal commands.

Zack considers the woman with curiosity as much as thoughtfulness. The rigidity of her stance and diction almost reminds him of automated prompts he used to hear back home when he still worked for ShinRa. He can't tell if she was made this way or if she was modified after birth.
Either way, it does tug at his heart a little. He smiles softly. ]
Technology itself hasn't advanced very far in this world so whatever you have isn't likely to work while you're here.
I could probably find a healer for you, but I don't think they have an official medbay you can go to.
[ A beat, then- ]
Have you ever known someone to use magic where you're from?
no subject
I... would appreciate any elaboration you could offer, sir.
[[ The faintest uptilt of tone at the end almost made the statement a question. But if the unwavering quality of her attention upon him was any indication, she wasn't at all disbelieving. ]]
no subject
Magic is a sort of energy and power that can be channeled to achieve what wouldn't ordinarily be possible.
For example- you can use batteries or electricity to power different devices. With magic, it's a similar principle only it comes from a difference source. It can come from inside a person, or it can from the world around you.
[ Raising his arm so she can see, there are several, glittering orbs about the size of a marble, all different colors. ]
Where I'm from, people have magic inside them, and they channel it using these. This one [ he taps a red Materia ] creates fire, and this one [ he shows her a blue one ] creates ice.
There are others that do a variety of other things, and you can do a lot with the runes here, too. It just depends on what you want to focus on.
no subject
But... one point stuck. ]]
You say... 'the world'. Are we... in orbit? Or... approaching planetary systems?
no subject
Her question, however, is telling. Zack shakes his head. ]
The name of this world -- this place, this planet -- is Allaidh Darach.
Once we arrive, we can't go back to where we came from.
[ Or at least, not by choice. ]
no subject
... You mean to say, sir.... You mean to say that we are on a planet? Atmosphere, day-cycles, landmasses?
no subject
Yes. There's a map I can show you, if you'd like.

holding out a hand, korra offers one of the two glasses of water she's holding. ]
Thirsty?
no subject
But when nothing more came, tentatively, she inquired, ]]
... Forgive the imposition of a question, Civilian, but... aren't the offerings restricted to your caste? It would be... remarkably against protocol to allow a bioproduct to mingle at such a function. Especially one serving court-martial investigation and dishonorably demoted to Lieutenant.
no subject
korra blinks in surprise at the woman's reply, baffled by the use of the word "caste" and what that could mean for the world from where she comes. so taken aback is she that korra momentarily lowers the offered hand as she tries to think of ... something to say to that.
even though she knows people in the fire nation military, she was never enveloped with them and never picked up on the lingo. ]
Things don't work like that here. [ she's trying to pick her words carefully, not wanting to invalidate the culture she must have grown up in, but wanting to reassure her that she doesn't have to worry about stuff like that.
it... may or my not work, but hey! she's trying. ] Right now we don't have to worry about who belongs where; that's the great thing about truces.
no subject
Dear one.
[Alexstrasza calls out to her, as if to summon her from that faraway space she's drifted into.]
What troubles you?
no subject
I... Forgive me, you may have me confused for someone else? Before approved redesignation to Alyosha Hazan I was c9Rh-938384.
I am... awaiting relief and assignment.
