Natasha Romanoff | MCU | Unseelie
[ Stealing away from the revelry of the Unseelie Court (schmoozing and acting a part is definitely in her repertoire, but right now it seems as though she has no patience for it), Natasha slips unnoticed into one of the castle's lengthy corridors. The feast is a generous welcome that's been prepared, to be sure, but being plucked here from where she was (and particularly against her will) is something that doesn't sit well with her, despite the fact that there are others here in the same predicament.
Natasha has no interest in a war, after all, irrespective of Seelie or Unseelie. She's just helped dismantle a regime of sorts in her own world — the dissolution of SHIELD — and she holds no loyalties or cards either way, in this one. ]
station/network.
[ The Station is an eclectic melting pot, the only place in this world so far that feels even vaguely familiar, and to this end Natasha finds herself in a dimly-lit bar and perched atop a leather stool, sipping on a strong vodka tonic with a twist of lemon.
She's already tried hacking through the network at the internet cafe, to no avail. Information comes in, but it doesn't go out. She fingers the strange locket in her hands while she drinks, turning it over and over again and pondering its use.
Finally, she activates the audio; what the hell. ]
Testing, testing...someone come rescue me from this place, before I start trying to surf porn at the web cafe.
station/network
[It takes Steve all of two seconds to be on the move, just long enough for him to realize where she is. Expect him to keep this open until he gets there - hers is the first familiar face that he's seen besides Bucky's.]
Isn't that all that it's made for anyway?
audio;
...Says the last person I'd expect to make use of such a service. [ there's a familiar curving at the corners of her mouth when she speaks. ] No, I don't really think that's all it's made for, not here — not with the tiny little winged people flitting about, making me think I've somehow ended up in Neverland.
[ ...seems a bit apropos that Peter Pan himself is coming to fetch her. ]

[Even saying that much makes him grimace a little. And so he's Peter Pan now. Beats being called Tinkerbell.]
You're at the Station, right?
[Because he heard something in the background, something out of place with the rest of the world. The new Justin Timberlake song - or maybe an old one, Steve doesn't know the difference.]
They're fairies. Do you know which side recruited you?
no subject
Judging by the chants of 'death to Seelie' at the feast, I'm assuming I've been picked up by the other guys. But to be honest with you, Steve, I'm not interested in fighting for any of them — not after what we've just been through.
[ Natasha's loyalties have changed, after the events in DC; besides her own agenda, the Captain is now the only one she follows. Not even Fury can command the same kind of allegiance from her, any longer. ]

[And if he sounds a little...amused, it's just nice to be the one who's more in touch with his surroundings for a change.]
Good. Because things aren't as simple as they try to make them out to be.
[They never are - and he doesn't know the half of that yet.]
But hey, no signs of an alien army yet. That's gotta count for something.

Not that she'd forgotten the Chitauri, but the invasion of New York is actually the furthest thing from her mind at the moment. But, apparently, not from Steve's. Even though they're speaking on an unsecured channel, there's obviously no concern that they're being listened to, and so she replies eventually: ]
— I'd rather face a confrontational army than be deceived again and have the wool pulled directly over our eyes as before, wouldn't you?
no subject
[There's something in her voice, her choice of words, that Steve's meant to pick up on. But he can't.]
You mean that whole thing with the room and the baseball game? I think I remmeber you being in on that.
just sent my app in, woohoo!
[ Okay, this is getting strange; he truly sounds as though he's not getting any of the hints she's dropping.
Natasha has a brief flare of panic when she thinks of the possibility that he's had his mind wiped, prior to coming here. ]
Steve. What's the last thing that you remember, before coming to this place?
network.
He swallows, running a hand through his hair to help himself refocus and actually answer her broadcast. ]
Wow, that was — confident. [ a pause. Did he mean to say that? Yeah, that was okay. ] Confident is a word for it. Do you, uh, actually need help or are you just bored?
no subject
Natasha has to smirk, at that response. Years of trying to shock Steve Rogers in her attempts to pull him out of his comfort zone have rendered her a bit blunt; his reaction is completely understandable. ]
No, I'm not really the damsel-in-distress type. It was just a cry for attention. [ And maybe a hook, to reel in some information. ] I might be a bit bored, though. What's the entertainment here like, besides the medieval turkey-leg feasts? Is there jousting, too?
