[There is a thing crouching in one of the trees, with glowing eyes and a twitching tail, a form spun of darkness. Its voice does not entirely match its appearance.]

Finally up, are you? Good, I was beginning to wonder if the imps had broken you on the way over.

[he arches a brow at her, nodding.]

I donno. I just don't trust it.

[not that he could really smell anything wrong with it, but without knowing exactly what's going on and seeing that there are a bunch of weird little creatures wandering around them and "welcoming" them to a party doesn't exactly strike him as housewarming.]

Have been eating things here, too?
decked: (apology » all the sinners crawl)

aaah sorry i'm late!!

[isaac immediately feels a wave of relief when he realizes it's scott. he nods stiffly, reaching up to run his fingers through his hair.]

Yeah- uh. I've really never been more happy to see you, man. This is messed up.

[he sighs, eyes darting around the room once again, jaw clenching, before his attention snaps back to scott.]

Are you okay?

[she nods in agreement, eyeing dean once more before her attention is pulled away and back towards the crowd again. no offense to him, she's just more keen on finding people she knows than complaining about the facts. as far as they know, they're stuck until they find a way out.]

No one's hurt, though.

[that's really what's important.]

[ she's about to point out that it was a lesson, that her father only made her and her sister clean up after the mess they made to help teach her not to be careless with her powers and for Anna not to encourage her ( even though that was when they were still very young, before she had to hide ), but then he's moving ahead and she's left trailing behind, hands outstretched towards the wall - no, no, no, no, no. despite the fact that she's not the one controlling the ice, she still feels responsible. ]

Stop that!

[ she doesn't sound all that upset, though. maybe a little panicked, surprised, and she looks back behind them, like she's afraid someone might see, and maybe she is. sure, she's been accepted by her kingdom ( as far as she knows ), but that doesn't mean the people here will embrace her powers with open arms. he should be concerned, too! so she tries to pull the ice away from the wall while she continues to follow him, palms flat before she wipes them across the air sideways, like she could literally wipe it all away if she focuses. but she's not focused, and all that does is create a small flurry in the hall, like this one ]

No! No, I can remove it. I can.

[ she sounds determined, and she's not trying to spoil his fun, she's not. if anything she's feeling a tiny bit competitive. he's challenging her, what are you gonna do?, so she has to accept it. so instead of swiping, this time she holds out her palms again, stopping in her tracks to really focus on one part of the wall, and then draws her hands back and closes them into fists. it's a little tricky, trying to control ice that she didn't put there herself, but some of it pulls away, and she can feel it inside her like a charge.

one that she turns towards her new friend, releasing it at the floor a few feet ahead in his path, an icy patch. it's- well, it's not exactly conducive to cleaning anything up, but. he deserves it! not that she thinks he'll actually slip on it, he seems light on his feet, but the effort was there. shows you.

[ What's that supposed to mean? Hardly the look of the Fair Folk, it could almost be an insult, except he's right that she doesn't belong here. Maybe none of them do. So she lets it slide and yes, maybe she's a little too on edge, and if he wasn't so bloody close to her, she'd be able to pass it off like she isn't—but as it is, she suspects he can tell that she's tense, and not just with the mild irritation that comes with chatting with someone as pretentious-sounding as this one. ]

Like the sound of your own voice, do you. [ Offhand, low, almost good-humoured but no doubt directed at him. Then, louder: ] No, I'm afraid I haven't got a handkerchief on me. Your boots look like they can stand a little wine— [ Maybe more than you can, she thinks. ] —so don't get fussy with me about it. [ Then Ginny crosses her arms, stepping away from him so she can face him properly, brows raised. ] And who're you to lecture me on wasting food, then? Maybe I've just got a massive appetite.

We'll be exploring anyways while we look for the library so in the end I win. [He huffs, trying not to smile.] Besides, if we're going to be here for as long as they imply I think we'll have enough time to find the library and explore to your heart's content.

I believe you.

[ Wildly amused as she works to peel away the ice on the walls, Jack studies the way she controls her power and the flurry of enthusiasm that translates into puffs of snowflakes. He hops up when she throws the ice over the floor, skating backwards smoothly with his staff over a shoulder and another hand stuffed in his hoodie.

He deserves a nice patch of ice to slide around on? So kind. It fans out with a rush in his own natural floral designs, hard and gleaming to cover the corridor from start to end, easily differentiated from the concentric mass she tossed his way. ]

You never told me your name. [ Wheeling about, he skates around her. ] I'm Jack. Jack Frost.

( there's a moment — several moments — where he's visibly thrown by her response, and though he manages to stop himself from vocalising anything, his lips part into a vague approximation of 'what?'. ) My boots ( he starts eventually, tone reflecting equal measures of insult and scandal, ) are far more fond of rain, mud, and ale. Occasionally tea, but a Briton who wastes even the smallest of drops deserves to be shot, so they're yet to truly cultivate a taste for it and I've no interest in developing it. Whine, on the other hand: you're quite right. I've been in the company of far too many women with a talent for the trait that they've, in turn, developed a remarkable ability to withstand even the most contemptible of complaints. I, as it happens, am yet to do so. ( a breath and a small, dismissive wave. ) Allergic, you see. Brings me out in dreadful hives.

( it's only when she steps away and crosses his arms that humour really, truly re-enters his expression. she's small, like charlotte, he thinks, and defiant (like charlotte), though a redhead (henry), and there's an odd twist in his stomach he recognises, loosely, as homesickness. it manifests itself as a laugh, oddly boyish in spite of the light edge of mocking and he lifts his chin to look down at her. ) Ah. ( murmured. ) Of course you do. I can see it in both your girth and your height; your hometown, I'm sure, tells many tales of the large ( his eyes narrow briefly and he seems to consider something, privately debating between himself. she's from the west country, he's sure, but—

one.

[when ben was suddenly woken up and shoved right into a sack, he thought he was dreaming. he's had dreams that have felt so real, so tangible, that he wouldn't put it past them. the thing is, he never woke up. he tried to wake himself up as soon as he showed up at the "welcome party", but it didn't work. no amount of pinching or internal screaming brought him out of the mess that he'd been tossed into.

so this is real.

and ben is 100% done with it the moment he arrives. he holds onto his drink anyway, not entirely sure how he ended up with one, but he doesn't put it down.

that is, until he sees a fairy slip something in someone else's drink. ben discards the glass and sticks to the outskirts of the party as he slips past people and towards the hallways, hoping to find more answers somewhere else. from what he's heard people saying, no one knows what's going on besides the fact that fairies and imps are lingering around them as they speak.

he isn't too keen on speaking to people -- or anyone at the moment -- who know about as much as he does, so he's got his heart set on exploring the castle for someone who has more information, even if it's unlikely. even getting out of the damned place would be better than being stuck in a hoard of people; it's too overwhelming.]

( ooc yes hello ben is super new to me i'm talking like TODAY new so if there's anything off pls let me know i only want to improve uwu otherwise you can find him anywhere you like! ♥ just dont be too put off that he's not that much of a talker. i swear he's got a heart of gold )

[Pausing awkwardly, Hiccup gives the guy a long, unsure look, then glances down at the ice under his feet.]

I think that'd be more work than it's worth. [Seriously, breaking up the ice just so he can walk without fear of slipping is totally unnecessary. What would he even use, anyway? His big walking stick? Pfft.]

Really, I can handle it. [To prove it, he takes a step forward. ...And his prosthetic foot nearly slips out from under him, but he manages to keep his balance.] I'm-- I'm a lot better at this than I seem, I promise. I've dealt with ice before. A lot.

[Apparently he just sucks at it in front of strangers who are watching him to make sure he doesn't nearly break his face again.]

My name is Elsa, Q- [ she'll blame her hesitation on the fact that she's only just realized he covered the entire corridor, and she gives him a look, but doesn't try to remove it. she's more concerned with the portraits. even if they do look neglected, they still might mean something to someone, so she's still carefully removing it bit by bit. either way, she's not going to add her title, there's no need for it here. she's proud, of course she is. she's very proud of her kingdom, of her family's legacy. but that doesn't matter much here, does it? ]

Elsa, of Arendelle.

[ after she finishes removing the strip of ice from the wall, she flicks her fingers down at her feet, giving herself ice skates. ice ice skates. ]

It is a genuine pleasure to meet you, Mr. Frost. [ even though his name makes her smile, almost mischievous. nearly. until she presses her lips shut to try and hide it. ] That isn't very subtle, is it?
breadmaking: (whoops)

NEVER APOLOGIZE EVER but sorry Ginny

[Oh. Oh, so she really is just eating it all. That quickly. Consider him impressed then, she's a better eater than even some of the biggest Vikings back in Berk. ...Though he avoids actually saying that aloud, getting the feeling that most people here wouldn't exactly take that as a compliment.]

Oh, yeah? That sounds a lot like the people where I'm from. We're, uh. We're encouraged to be big eaters. [Smiling, sheepishly now that he's found out there's not actually anything suspicious or strange going on here like he originally thought, he gives a small shrug.] You could give most of them a run for their money with that speed.

[A quick gesture to her plate, and then he suddenly freezes realizing he said the thing. The thing that's a weird compliment that he wasn't going to say but accidentally did. Whoops. Pursing his lips, he just...sort of stands there and stares, waiting for her reaction. The one that's...probably not going to be good.]
icy: not your knight in shining armour. (wooo I'm not your boyfriend baby.)

[ Arendelle. Hasn't ever heard of it, so he goes with the assumption they're working a Different Worlds Collide gig. Jack chuckles as he notices her flick some skates onto herself, wondering if it's more a case of will, like himself, than not. Slowly, he starts skating his way to the far end of the corridor. ]

Why would I want to be subtle? [ She is, he's more than noticed that. Neither does Elsa seem to be a sprite or fae in her own right. (Hmmm, thoughts.) If he can pick something up from her answer regarding why she's so timid, however scant on details, he'll try. ] Winter's the best time of the year, I get to bring fun to all kinds of people.
icy: it's pretty gross. (I've seen her dehydrate sir.)

[personal profile] icy 2014-03-24 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure you have, not even gonna debate it. [ Jack stops himself from moving forward when the boy almost slips, hesitating. Well. Doesn't he feel like a jerk now? The answer is a resounding YES. ] Buuut I'm a worrywart, so bear with me.

[ He skates forward in bare feet, smacking the butt of his staff down. The ice fractures into delicate little veins all over from one side to the other; another tap and it dissolves into snowflakes.

Jack glances around to make sure it's all banished, then over. ]

So, how come you've dealt with ice 'a lot'? That's a weird thing to say.

[ Coming from him, yep. ]

Pixie dust?

[ NiGHTS whirls in the air, hanging dramatically by one hand from the frame and allowing herself to swing as she looks to Roxas. ]

Do I look like a pixie to you?

[ The question isn't asked with any malice, but with genuine curiosity. Not to mention amusement. A nightmaren is a far cry from the pixies she's seen in dreams. Dainty little winged creatures. ]

Well we have to be careful, don't we? [ as soon as she says it, she realizes that wasn't the right choice of words. not with Jack, who seems entirely focused on the parts about these particular powers that she wouldn't let herself get too attached to. the... using it for fun, to play and goof off. as much as she liked to hope that that's all her powers would be used for in the future, she knew she couldn't let herself get distracted by that mindset. not when said powers almost cost her sister her life life, twice.

she pushes off her skates with an easy grace, hands folding behind her back
]

I just mean that our powers can be fun, and be used to bring fun, but they can also be dangerous. Some people tend to ignore the former when presented with a kind of magic they don't understand. Or any magic at all, I suppose.
icy: but did you die. (oh you had a hard day.)

[personal profile] icy 2014-03-24 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ It's not the right choice of words, but neither are they wrong. Older than he appears (or acts, most of the time, case in point) he gives an agreeable shrug as his gaze rests on Elsa. He has lived through great snowstorms that have ruined countries and cities, seen soldiers die of frostbite on battlefields and, before modern medicine helped, learned how dangerous it can be to keep children out in the cold and dark too long. Jack thinks of being wafted away by annoyed fae for hundreds of years, a nuisance despite his best efforts to make friends. It hardened the core of him and he isn't sorry for that, it made him stronger, but he recognizes the echoes of it in Elsa's words and he looks away with significant effort.

Not that his thoughts are particularly betrayed by his body-language, light and casual as his tone. A defensive reflex, to behave as people expect. It's easier when they walk away, if they haven't become annoyed with the real you. ]

The only thing dangerous in here is how slow you are.

[ Deliberately flippant, he pieces up the pace and the ice across the floor rushes with blue sparkles around the corner. ]

Unless you want to eat my dust, Miss Subtle.

Unexpected is one word he would use for inferring a British professor has contacts with the Pentagon, and Impressed is another.

"Advice?" That could be a hairy minefield. "Uh ... I know everyone says you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but magic doesn't work like that, so. If it looks bad? Don't poke it."

The wisdom of three centuries, summarized.

"I mean, the Boogeyman is made of shadows."

[Bear with him. Okay, he can do that, but he does so warily, not sure what to think of whatever's happening. A lot of thoughts and questions are running through his mind right about now, ranging from "aren't his feet cold" to "what does he even plan to do", but he loses the chance to ask them for the time being as the guy...does his thing.

Looking down at the ice again as it begins to crack, Hiccup's eyes widen in shock. And they stay that way when it all suddenly turns to snow with another tap of that staff.

Uhm. That's not what he was expecting. At all.]

...Because we get really long winters where I'm from, so I've had years of practice walking on ice. [Just, not so much with the new foot is all.

As he speaks though, his eyes stay on the snowflakes that are now littering the floor under and around him, and his answer is distracted. Like he's just getting it out of the way to focus on something more important.]

I'm sorry, [He raises his hands above his shoulders as though he's not sure what to do with them. Or the rest of himself.] did you just turn that ice into snow?

[AND IS THAT NORMAL BECAUSE HE'S KIND OF FREAKING OUT A LITTLE NOW.]
icy: who wants to feed it. (there's a tiger in the bathroom.)

[ 'Long winters' sounds so ni — Uh, oh. Jack holds out a hand of his own as if to tell him to Stay, Sit, RELAX. Any of the three being inferred are workable. ]

Yeah, but don't freak out! I'm — good.

Well, you don't have to give it me. Got me own, don't I? [Just don't tell Too and everything will be fine.

Unsurprisingly, Jess' concerns are something Rudy hasn't even considered. He looks perplexed at her worry, shrugging his shoulders as though acting like it doesn't matter automatically means that it really doesn't.]

Since when did we start figuring out what we're going to do? It seems all right so far. I mean, nobody's died yet. No one's making us pick up any litter. I vote we just sit around, do nothing, and if things go to shit we worry about it then.
thearseman: (bonding with Starey)

Good thinking. Rudy can snot on her when we intro for real.

[personal profile] thearseman 2014-03-24 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rudy (the self-proclaimed original) looks offended.] It weren't even about me. It was about the coffee. If you're going to eavesdrop, you could at least have the decency to do it properly.

[Rudy Too doesn't look all that grateful for Rudy's poor attempt to defend him, however. In fact, he still seems put out about said coffee.]

It was about you being disgusting enough to drink it. Alisha, tell him he's going to make himself sick if he don't throw that away.

[How is that even considered a good answer??? What's he supposed to do with that?]

--And that's just normal? You can turn ice into snow and it's a normal thing?

[Nope, he's still freaking out, seemingly ignoring everything that's just been said with the exception of the 'yeah'.]

How is that even-- That shouldn't be possible, right?

[He's been brought here by fairies to fight in their war, but it's the guy that can make snow that he finds unbelievable. Totally makes sense.]

[ there's a playfully offended ugh at that response, even if some part of her wants to stop him and insist, no really. but. maybe later. for now she's following suit, even if there's this nagging voice in the back of her mind about leaving all that ice behind them, where anyone could walk out there and slip and fall and it would be all their fault, they should really clean that up. or she could... turn to skate backwards before she rounds the corner, pulling away as much ice from the floor as she can, turning it into a flurry she can move and just, uh, throw basically, at the untouched stretch of hall ahead of them, once she turns again and skates around the corner. ]

You're going to get us into trouble!

[ not that she's doing anything to prevent it. she has to clutch the side of her skirt just to lift it a bit, give herself more room so she can take bigger strides. just until she's caught up, at least ]

What a terrible impression we'll make. We should be setting an example, not- [ not running on the picks of her skates just to gain a little more speed before gliding again. she's not trying to race ahead of him, just keep up. though maybe she's showing off a bit whens he turns again, skates shearing long stripes into the otherwise smooth stretch of ice. ] -not freezing over everything in sight.
