( with the exception of the creatures that — evidently — passed as servants in this world, there's a degree of familiarity to the feast; not so much in terms of food and drink, but in terms of atmosphere, in point and purpose, and whilst loki can't (nor can he be bothered to even attempt) to find a sense of enjoyment in the proceedings, it makes slotting into a role that much easier. simpler. it's a role that requires very little thought, and his attention can thus be given to that which is more important: the hows and the whys, primarily. oh, they've been given an explanation! certainly, and although loki is willing to concede that there may indeed be a kernel of truth to it all, he doesn't imagine that it's where the truth begins, nor where it ends. the beauty of stories, of explanations. he thinks, is that they're rarely so simple as any would like to paint them and all deception requires — effective — is a little bending of the truth, a little obfuscation.

he doesn't imagine, though, that there will be anyone of importance from the court here, now. if there is, they'll be doing their best to be unnoticeable; he thinks, instead, the most telling thing about all of it will be the others, the individuals brought here alongside him. he thinks that if he of all people can be summoned, be brought against his will (when he'd been on the throne of asgard)—

he watches, then, features set in a carefully, deliberately neutral expression. conversation, for the moment, isn't something he indulges in (eavesdropping, on the other hand—). when he does catch the eye of another guest (so many so human in appearance), he makes a point of raising his goblet in acknowledgement, a sharp, perfunctory and wholly wry smile gracing his features, the action punctuated by a momentary quirk of an eyebrow and the careful placing of the goblet back down on the table. that he doesn't drink from the goblet is a careful pointed gesture.

"dull" would be the unsaid sentiment, then. )

( I apologise for any autocorrect errors — iOS can be a pain in the ass! )

[ contrary to Loki's apparent displeasure, Jas is enjoying himself immensely. the general air of levity (it was a feast, after all), the fact that most seemed upset with their situation instead of taking the figurative stallion by the reigns all added up to a perfectly confident young would-be pirate.

there were so many interesting faces. creatures of myth and of history alike, though some of them were far easier to pick out than others. some more curious. like this fellow, the one with the carefully carved expression. where he pointedly doesn't eat or drink, Jas is leaning against the table in his seat and popping grapes into his mouth as though he had every right to do so. as though he were a little king himself. (and if you asked, he would agree to it).

he's been watching Loki for the past five minutes, and when the strange man catches his eye (likely by accident), Jas smiles, sharp as a knife, the forget-me-not blue of his eyes twinkling with glee. ]
