[ this place really was unlike anything he'd really seen before. well, in real life, anyway. this sort of place was straight out of some stupid hollywood blockbuster and he was having a teensy bit of trouble wanting to believe it.

quite frankly, he was tired of the whole different realm, different world, different dimension, different multiverse sort of deal. if he was honest about it (which, this? he probably wouldn't be), tommy would admit to some anxiousness about being here. just a tiny bit. so much it's negligible. so he would say.

the station, at least, is a small comfort. a tiny solace in an otherwise annoying situation. at least there's familiarity here. he snags a coffee (not his first choice, but whatever) and a table, watching people for just a little while. eventually he glances over to his side, brows raised and thumb jerking toward the entrance. ]

This place is some sort of joke, right?

[ alisha's own hands are empty. she's not sure if she likes it. when she has her phone in her hands, she feels like nothing can really touch her — she's lost in her own little world, having something and someone to focus on. here? there's nothing to do but wander around. and when she wanders around, she realises how lonely and frightened she really is. she wants to be in the community centre, picking up litter, burying bodies of probation workers and freaking the fuck out over it and the consequences. ]

[ her eyes move towards the entrance before returning to the bloke near her. alisha doubts he's talking to her, but she's tired of being quiet, of sulking in her own corner. how's she meant to get home if she can't find anyone who knows anything about getting back home? ] Not exactly what I'd call a funny one.

[ she crosses her arms against her chest and seems to deflate a little. she's none too happy and it shows. ]

[ in a way, tommy can understand. he doesn't really like sitting idle. if there's something to do, he'd prefer to be doing that. not... that he can say he'd appreciate burying bodies of probation workers or anything. that sounds like a real drag. but, to each their own. or whatever.

his eyes flicker over her for a moment—what? she's probably around his age and she's cute. there's nothing wrong with looking. ]

Nah. Their sense of humor seems pretty crap, if you ask me. [ he shrugs, leaning back in his chair ] I'd say it can't be all bad, but pep talks really aren't my thing.

[ after a moment, he does offer a smile ] Guess it can't hurt to make a bad situation good. Or as good as we can. I'm Tommy, by the way.

Alisha.

[ she doesn't think introducing herself to other captives is a good idea. forming attachments will only make things harder — she learnt that at the community centre. she'd only intended to serve her time and get out — but she's found herself stuck, not wanting to leave, and it's all because of those fuckers. ]

[ but she doesn't scowl or frown or roll her eyes. she doesn't want to be unfriendly at all. instead, she gives him a smile, one that doesn't quite reach her eyes — as he's right, their sense of humour sucks. ]

You used to finding yourself in really strange places?

[ yeah it may make things harder in the long run, but might as well make the best of it while they're here. people need friends, allies, whatever, to make this easier. if they're going to be fighting a war, might as well grab hold of some stability while it's available.

all they can do now is just work together and hold on for the ride. make the best of this shitty situation. ]

Y'know, there was a time when I could've said no, I'm not. But after the last few months, at this point, I'm of the belief that anything's possible. This is a strange place to be, sure, but I guess it could be worse.

[ alisha shrugs her shoulders. ] We could be dead. [ it's meant to be flippant, some sort of horrid alternative to this shithole, but alisha feels dread curl in her stomach and take hold. it's something she doesn't like to think about — the future. because in the future is a death and alisha knows that it's going to be hers. ]

[ she inhales deeply before sighing. ] What's the point of having a station if you haven't got a train? [ she shakes her head, turning her gaze on him. ] I thought this place would lead to a way out.
