[He returns the gaze, automatically cataloguing the armour and sword as well. (It's familiar in the way one remembers seeing something in a book or museum.) He notes how well used they are, and how the other youth's eyes don't quite match the rest of his face.

He smiles openly anyway, finding no reason to do otherwise. The scrutinising isn't unusual, for he's far too used to such things from first arriving in Narnia, and then becoming one of her rulers.]

I thought it wouldn't do to overwhelm people with details, if they haven't seen this type of garb all ready. [Narnian clothing is distinct in itself, he thinks, and so far, he's seen none wear it.] I suppose it isn't very specific for those unfamiliar. My apologies.

[France turns a bit more to face Peter, his hands moving in front of himself as if to demonstrate that they're currently empty. He smiles, and it's very pretty expression with still the edge of childish sweetness. Faced with such good manners from a likely peer based on the fine dress and sword, France cannot be so obviously ungallant.]

[His eyes flick to the lion's head that is the pommel of Peter's sword and then back to his Peter's face. There's a faint teasing there as if to say that France is not about to be overwhelmed by a spot of detail.]

[France's head tilts slightly as he listens, hair falling into his face. He's quiet for a moment, thinking back over all the odd sights that he's seen so far since arriving here before shaking his head.]

[There's a bit on an edge to the question that indicates France isn't simply asking for identification. To have two ladies in his company and a younger brother who also carries a standard: this Peter is either a lord's son or lord himself. This behaviour would be vastly impolite if it wasn't for the fact that France is what he is and second only to his own lord and king.]
