[...Janine, please.]
:Yep, you are. Guess you got the whole spiel, huh, about the war and stuff?:
no subject
no don't do that to her she'll totally buy it SHE TRUSTS PEOPLE TO BE NICE....]I see! I know none but the birds who learn to fly, but I've never heard anything of the kind from them.
Yes, I... have. It's not really.... But I suppose it doesn't matter, if we can't leave.
no subject
:Pterosaurs like me can get on okay without flying. We're not half bad at this groundpounding thing, so it can take a while.:
[Janine tips her head in a way that suggests a raised eyebrow.]
:Don't wanna fight? Yeah, this conscription thing is pretty sketchy.:
no subject
Is that what you are? I was wondering if you were a dragon.
[And here we have one of the few elves who'd think that without instantly running for the hills. Dragons are another of those things she hasn't encountered.]
No. And I don't imagine my Father would approve - so perhaps it's for the best he's not here after all. In any case, he and Mother are probably still as safe as they can be, back home. Mother's power is enough to protect, after all.
no subject
[She's not sure if she should claim she is or not. Quetzes are azhdarchids and azhdarchids take that name from Persian for dragon... yeah, okay.]
:I've heard we're descended from the dragon Aždarha, but I don't know if that's true or someone was pulling my beak. - Trying to trick me into believing something silly.:
[The other three will be fine where they are. Right? Surely they can't need her now.] :Huh. Is this your first time away from them?:
no subject
[That statement is... slightly strange.]
As you say. Still, I do not see how one may be descended from one thing and be something else entirely.
Yes, it is. It's not terribly safe away from my home, and I've never had any reason to leave. It would make my parents unhappy, which is a good reason not to.
no subject
:Enough generations away and you can get unrecognizable. Either way, if I'm a dragon I'm not the kidnapping hoarding kind.:
[Sweet, dim, and sheltered. Janine has the sudden desire to take her under her wing. Figuratively, anyway.]
:Wow. So, have you thought up your priorities? Finding food, water, and shelter makes it easier to make plans past that.:
no subject
[That's what comes of being a princess in the tightest guarded kingdom in Arda when everybody else keeps getting in wars.]
I would have, but for the fact that it seems I don't need to.

[Janine maneuvers her great head to look at Luthien out of the other eye. They're both very red and very large.]
:New place, new people, completely new situation. You can't get complacent just 'cause it's comfortable at first, or you're going to get screwed over, sooner or later.:
no subject
I never said, did I, that I intended to be complacent. But given the situation here now, I see no reason not to take advantage of it. And it is far easier to find your footing when you have a platform to step from.
no subject
:True that. It's good to try and have something to work towards. You have a name, or should I pick something?:
no subject
I am Lúthien of Doriath, daughter of King Elu Thingol and Queen Melian the Fair.
no subject
:You're Luthy, then. I'm Janine. Janine, of the Quetzalcoatlus Feathered-Serpent, possibly in Aždarha's family.:
[...she's just going to run with this, I guess.]
:So, future aside, you've eaten since coming here, right?:
no subject
[Well that's new.] It is a pleasure to meet you, Janine.
I haven't, no. Why do you ask?
no subject
:Sure! It's cute, and it could be said in a hurry by rude, impatient pterosaurs. Who're hungry. I am eating, you could come with, or not.:
no subject
I may as well, I suppose.
