she's not going to give it any thought, not more than the idea that maybe this is how most people feel when they meet someone with a common curse. no! not curse. a common gift.
quickly enough, just after they've left the crowded room, Elsa's breaking her short silence, not wanting to wait until they get outside. ]
I'm not sure what you meant by mess, but I assure you I won't be a part of it. Have you ever had to help mop up an entire ballroom before? [ she's... trying to be clever. but it's probably coming off as just corny. oh well. ] No, I learned a long time ago not to leave puddles behind. Or- enough snow to leave a large pond's worth of water if left to melt on its own.
no subject
Mops and puddles? You haven't had a lot of fun, have you? What if I did ... this?
[ With a strength belied by his scrawniness, Jack snatches the end of his staff and holds it out it trail over the wall. Ice flares in a line, sprawling outward over old portraits, all too boring and brown and dark for him to care about. ]
What are you gonna do, wait around for it to melt?
[ Quickening his step to stay ahead of her, his grin flashes wide. ]
no subject
Stop that!
[ she doesn't sound all that upset, though. maybe a little panicked, surprised, and she looks back behind them, like she's afraid someone might see, and maybe she is. sure, she's been accepted by her kingdom ( as far as she knows ), but that doesn't mean the people here will embrace her powers with open arms. he should be concerned, too! so she tries to pull the ice away from the wall while she continues to follow him, palms flat before she wipes them across the air sideways, like she could literally wipe it all away if she focuses. but she's not focused, and all that does is create a small flurry in the hall, like this one ]
No! No, I can remove it. I can.
[ she sounds determined, and she's not trying to spoil his fun, she's not. if anything she's feeling a tiny bit competitive. he's challenging her, what are you gonna do?, so she has to accept it. so instead of swiping, this time she holds out her palms again, stopping in her tracks to really focus on one part of the wall, and then draws her hands back and closes them into fists. it's a little tricky, trying to control ice that she didn't put there herself, but some of it pulls away, and she can feel it inside her like a charge.
one that she turns towards her new friend, releasing it at the floor a few feet ahead in his path, an icy patch. it's- well, it's not exactly conducive to cleaning anything up, but. he deserves it! not that she thinks he'll actually slip on it, he seems light on his feet, but the effort was there. shows you. ]

[ Wildly amused as she works to peel away the ice on the walls, Jack studies the way she controls her power and the flurry of enthusiasm that translates into puffs of snowflakes. He hops up when she throws the ice over the floor, skating backwards smoothly with his staff over a shoulder and another hand stuffed in his hoodie.
He deserves a nice patch of ice to slide around on? So kind. It fans out with a rush in his own natural floral designs, hard and gleaming to cover the corridor from start to end, easily differentiated from the concentric mass she tossed his way. ]
You never told me your name. [ Wheeling about, he skates around her. ] I'm Jack. Jack Frost.
no subject
Elsa, of Arendelle.
[ after she finishes removing the strip of ice from the wall, she flicks her fingers down at her feet, giving herself ice skates. ice ice skates. ]
It is a genuine pleasure to meet you, Mr. Frost. [ even though his name makes her smile, almost mischievous. nearly. until she presses her lips shut to try and hide it. ] That isn't very subtle, is it?
no subject
Why would I want to be subtle? [ She is, he's more than noticed that. Neither does Elsa seem to be a sprite or fae in her own right. (Hmmm, thoughts.) If he can pick something up from her answer regarding why she's so timid, however scant on details, he'll try. ] Winter's the best time of the year, I get to bring fun to all kinds of people.
no subject
she pushes off her skates with an easy grace, hands folding behind her back ]
I just mean that our powers can be fun, and be used to bring fun, but they can also be dangerous. Some people tend to ignore the former when presented with a kind of magic they don't understand. Or any magic at all, I suppose.
no subject
Not that his thoughts are particularly betrayed by his body-language, light and casual as his tone. A defensive reflex, to behave as people expect.
It's easier when they walk away, if they haven't become annoyed with the real you.]The only thing dangerous in here is how slow you are.
[ Deliberately flippant, he pieces up the pace and the ice across the floor rushes with blue sparkles around the corner. ]
Unless you want to eat my dust, Miss Subtle.
no subject
You're going to get us into trouble!
[ not that she's doing anything to prevent it. she has to clutch the side of her skirt just to lift it a bit, give herself more room so she can take bigger strides. just until she's caught up, at least ]
What a terrible impression we'll make. We should be setting an example, not- [ not running on the picks of her skates just to gain a little more speed before gliding again. she's not trying to race ahead of him, just keep up. though maybe she's showing off a bit whens he turns again, skates shearing long stripes into the otherwise smooth stretch of ice. ] -not freezing over everything in sight.
no subject
We shouldn't, huh? Whoops ...
[ He cheats and uses the breeze to pull him along, faster as their ice overlaps and creates a road for them to use as they head out of the castle, Jack making a show of how easy it is for him to take the lead.
Troll. He doesn't quite fly, but he certainly isn't going all-out with the skating like Elsa, just a push here and there and the wind launches him forward. ]Are you okay there? You look like you might actually break a sweat.
no subject
[ she exhales quick ( not gasp! it wasn't a gasp ) when she feels the wind around them, shaking her hair out of her face as she tries to turn and watch what he's doing. but it's nothing specific, it doesn't even look like he's trying! he's just. doing it. and for a second, she feels extremely jealous. the only time she felt that kind of ease and confidence in her powers was when she was alone, out in the middle of nowhere, free to play without the fear of hurting anyone. she shouldn't ask, it's too revealing, makes it too obvious she's still learning, but- ]
How are you doing that? I can feel it. [ the shift in the wind, she means. it's not abrupt or out of place, but it's almost like the gust is following them. she flattens her hands out in front of her, like she's been doing a lot lately, just turning them over like she's still not sure what they're capable of. which she really isn't. it makes her slow down a little bit, especially once she starts skating in small circles between pushes ] I wonder if I can do it too.
no subject
[ Jack shrugs by way of an answer. When they pass outside into the courtyard, the bailey turns into something of a winter wonderland with ice sweeping across the ground, up trees and through bushes and Jack kicks off from the ground, twirling his staff around his fingers as he goes like the show-off he is. He has reason to be, at least, for he doesn't once falter. ]
Can't fly, Elsa? [ Zooming overhead as he veers back around, he sprinkles her with snowflakes, laughter echoing bell-like into the evening sky. ] Maybe you should catch me, then I could pull you along. Slowpoke.
no subject
[ she's not even throwing ice down in front of her at this point, letting it appear under her feet with each gliding step. but it's only because she's too busy watching him fly. and maybe it makes her smile, the snow, because how could it not? but he keeps teasing her and maybe she's a little sensitive, because she feels herself getting huffy, despite the fact that she really doesn't want to be. huffy in a childish way, though. ]
And no, I can't fly. [ you little brat. she scrunches her nose up at him, twirling her fingers through the air just to send some of those snowflakes back his way. ] I'm supposed to just trust you to pull me along without being reckless? I'm not sure we're there just yet.
