[ Astrid, on the other hand, isn't surprised. okay, the fairies were weird, that was so weird, but being asked to fight for them? not so weird. she's a warrior, born and bred. she can do this. she can do anything! which is why she's focusing on that and not the fact that she's been yoinked out of Berk without warning, with no time to say goodbye to anyone or make sure somebody would take care of Stormfly while she was gone. that was all pretty scary. so she'll focus on the fight, whatever she can do to help. she sat around at the dinner long enough to take in all the information available to her ( and long enough to eat her fill, because yeah, hello, viking ), but then she's up on her feet, head held high like she could run this place, if she wanted to. luckily, she doesn't. no, she just wants everybody to know that she's got this. totally in control, and totally confident that she can help here.

she's out in the hallways because it's not as crowded out here, and having space to roam around is good for helping her think. well, and to help her get out her nerves and worries about home.

yeah. nobody has to see her quick moment of thor almighty, what is my dad going to do when he notices I'm missing? probably tear the village apart. and if Stormfly takes out her anger on anyone, I hope it's Snotlout and what if this war turns out to be bigger than anything I'm actually prepared for?. nobody has to see that at all, no.

at that point she's stopped at the end of the hallway, like she's not sure if she wants to turn the corner to keep going or turn back, head back to the feast. which is when she hears it - the familiar footstep/metal scrape of a certain someone
]

Hiccup?

[ ... she probably shouldn't sound so shocked, should she? no. woops. she rounds the corner, arms crossing over her chest ]

Well, well. Look what the zippleback dragged in.

[ like she isn't really relieved to see him here ]

[It's nice and quiet in the halls, much nicer than the crowded, noisy great hall where the feast is no doubt still going down. Sort of what he needs right now, just some time to take in his new surroundings that he's going to be stuck in for the next...who even knows how long, and to...think a little. And maybe find himself worrying a bit more the further he walks. What if he never gets to go back to Berk? What if he never gets to see his dad again, or his friends? Or Toothless for that matter? What would happen to him if he's not there?

It's all greatly concerning, weighing more and more heavily on his shoulders the longer he thinks about it, the less time he has to spend focusing on this whole fairy war and how he apparently needs to be part of it. Wow, maybe he should have stayed where all the noise was...

He's even considering going back until he hears a familiar voice calling his name. Head whipping up, eyes off the floor and coming to rest on the owner of the voice, he stares.]

Astrid. [It's almost whispered, just spoken on a breath, like he's not really sure she's there. Then he blinks, straightens, and snaps out of it.] Astrid?! You're here too?

[Oh, thank the gods. He's not completely alone after all! He almost wants to hurry forward and hug her with all this relief. But, uh. He refrains. Not really looking for a punch here, thanks.]
