Yeah? Seems to be a fair amount of that around here too. Personally, I have a home I'd be perfectly content to return to, but I doubt I'd be allowed to stay in it even then.

You spoke of something like that earlier. [ Maglor tips his head consideringly ] The masters you spoke of - they are not here, then, but in your home world?

Not strictly speaking my home, but I certainly do a lot of visiting. They can't seem to get anything done without their slaves, and certainly aren't keen on trying.

Mind you, the situation doesn't seem vastly different here, except a greater lack of organization.

Slaves? [ Maglor frowns a little ] That sounds ... unpleasant, Master Djinni.

As to that... You have the right of it, I suppose. I do not plan on making it easy for them, however. [ if there is a whole world he can hide in... well, he was planning on vanishing at home, anyway ]

You don't need to tell me twice, I've been the one who's had the worst of it all these years. And precious little time off-duty, too.

I should hope I do, I've seen enough of the same, through the years.

I am sorry to hear that Master Djinni. I suppose at the least here our masters have hopefully less sway than yours appear to have had on you in your own world.

I wonder how easy it will be to simply walk away. If it is as disorganized as you say, they may not even notice.

Well that's the way it's looked thus far. Except the death bit - half the time you don't even die properly, in these parts. And as for walking away... well, there's not quite a whole world to get lost in, but you can do your best with the land that's available.

I have had some experience in hiding. [ a wry shrug ]

Especially in times of war there are often many places which go unnoticed. I have time enough to find them, and plenty of inclination.

[ the statement about death gets a shake of his head ] Strange, the power of our patrons. The Eldar have ever been tied to Arda - what you are suggesting says that the Lord and Lady have power even to circumvent our fate and Namo's Call.

[He shrugs in turn.]

Don't we all! Honestly, it's in times of war that such skills are most useful, in my estimation. Those who disagree tend to also those who end up dead sooner rather than later. That they are welcome to.

Mm, yes. I've never been entirely clear what's supposed to happen to my kind after death, if anything happens at all and we do not merely vanish into the great void - which is the eventual fate of us all anyway. Doesn't seem to take here, though. Not that I speak from personal experience, of course.

[ a soft snort ] True. If death might release me, I would not shirk from it. But in this world prudence seems the better path. Tis a strange world indeed.

I suppose I am glad to hear that you have no personal experience, for I do not think it sounds like a pleasant one, whether in this world or your own.

[personal profile] rekhyt 2014-04-11 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Bartimaeus eyes him. There's a slightly judgmental cast to the look.]

In my opinion, death has never been any great release. Perhaps it's different for humans. You are welcome to try, if you're that desperate.

I imagine not. I do intend to keep any experience in that area to a minimum if at all possible - I've had enough close shaves already, believe you me.

suddenly a rekhyt! =p

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-04-11 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Maglor only shrugs - he knows, he knows. ]

For my people, it has been seen as such at times - it would not be uncommon, if the hroa, the body, was wounded enough, for the soul to flee. But I am not that desperate. [ yet hangs in the air between them ]

rekhyt: (Default)

he sneaks up on you

[personal profile] rekhyt 2014-04-11 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So then your spirit is forced out into the cold and then what happens to it? No, it's best to dodge that fate if at all possible.
bythewaves: (weary)

such a sneaky djinni

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-04-12 09:03 am (UTC)(link)
"In my own world we would return to the Halls of Waiting." Maglor shrugs, it is not that bad a fate, in his opinion. "We are meant to be bound to Arda, so I know not what would happen here. I suppose it would be foolish to test that here."

[personal profile] rekhyt 2014-04-16 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks rather unimpressed - it's been his expression for a good deal of the conversation.]

So you know death wouldn't be the release you want and you still are set on dying, are you? Well, it's a creative form of madness.
bythewaves: (makalaure)

[personal profile] bythewaves 2014-04-16 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
[ and he is likely to remain unimpressed, tbh ]

I never said I was sane. [ he is well aware that he probably isn't, at this point ]

Self aware as well - you do have a leg up on the competition, don't you?

I suppose that remains to be seen.
