He would have. [she had her crisis of faith, but she can believe in that much]

Why just us, though? Why not Peter and Lucy, too? Did they make it back to England all right, you think?
counterbalanced: ([lww] A graver and quieter man)

Perhaps their magic wasn't strong enough to combat Aslan's. [Initial spike of worry dissipated, Edmund lets his cooler head take over as he considers their position.]

Admittedly, we hadn't read much on folklore before our first encounter with Narnia, but the fae have always been known for ensnaring the unsuspecting. Faerie circles. [Edmund says the last bit quietly, mostly to himself.] Could it have been the order we went through the door? No, You were after Peter, I went after you. If Peter and Lucy aren't here, they must have made it to England.

[between the two of them, they can inject some reason and logic into this unreasonable and illogical situation]

How strange. I'm too old to go back to Narnia, but apparently not too old to be here. You and I are in the middle... D'you suppose that's why we were chosen and not Peter or Lucy?
counterbalanced: ([lww] Seemed so pitiful to think of them)

By jove. [Another quiet exclamation. He'd nearly forgotten about the awful news Peter and Susan broke as they left, distracted by these new surroundings as he was.] That's right.

It's a possibility we shouldn't rule out, but I'm not entirely satisfied with it. I suggest we look around the area some more before we come to a better conclusion.

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that sounds like the best plan. Though I'd feel better if I had my bow with me.

[despite her gentle nature, she would still take someone down if she felt threatened]
counterbalanced: ([lww] Oh do come off it!)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-17 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
My sword will suffice for now, until we can find a bow for you. [Edmund, though far from relaxed at least has a better grasp of the situation now. Enough to let his dry wit surface for a moment.]

I realised I'd forgotten my torch in Narnia, but I suppose I would be glad for it, if it means I have my sword instead.

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I think I would prefer a sword to a torch myself, in this case.
counterbalanced: ([lww] Of course it would be raining)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-17 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
We'll do well enough on our own, the two of us.

[Edmund eyes the feast laid out before the rest of the kidnapped with one part longing and one part suspicion.]

Have you eaten any of it?

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-17 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
No, and don't. Fairy food is dangerous.
counterbalanced: ([lww] He felt a choking feeling)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-18 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
I know. [That's what has him worried.]

How long do you think we can last without food or water?

[They're going to have to eat eventually, and this time there won't be a convenient apple grove around to stave off the hunger.]

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-18 07:59 am (UTC)(link)
People can go longer without food than water. Perhaps if we boil it first, it might be all right...
counterbalanced: ([lww] Of course it would be raining)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-18 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Boiling might work on bacteria but I wouldn't be terribly surprised if enchantments held through it.

We'll have to find another source. More importantly, we'll have to tread carefully with these faeries. While we don't plan to stay, offending our hosts would be unwise.

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-18 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
When did you get to be the logical one? [she says it playfully enough, though there is also pride. She's so glad she's not the only one]

But you're right. We have to be careful until we can find a way out of here.
counterbalanced: ([lww] He went on looking at Aslan)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I have always been logical. [Edmund replies to his sister, his smile small. The magic of Narnia still clings to him, allowing him to remember his life as a king, and not just as an adult.]

Do you think Aslan will come once he knows what's happened to us?

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-18 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
He may come, but we shouldn't put our hopes in it. We need to find a way to figure it out on our own.
counterbalanced: ([lww] Seemed so pitiful to think of them)

[personal profile] counterbalanced 2014-03-19 10:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. [Even after their coronation, the siblings had learnt to make it through on their own. This will be no different.]

We mustn't wait around. He would not want us to either. [Edmund gives a quick scan of the feast area.] Where shall we look first?

[personal profile] marksqueen 2014-03-19 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's get away from this crowd. [she slips her hand through his arm] Come on, Ed. We could both use the fresh air.
