[Baffled. Utterly baffled. She had rarely felt this way in her twenty years but she certainly felt it keenly now. She knew she had always been somewhat different from the rest of her family, but she was finding already that she missed them dearly.

Her sisters, but especially Jane. How was Jane to fare without her? How was she to fare without Jane? Even her mother's poor nerves were missed and her father... her poor father. How he would feel it. How she did feel it even now.

She looked around, trying to make sense of the people she saw, the fashions they wore and the strange terminology they used. No novel had been this fantastical and she could not parse it to make sense to her mind.

[He holds up his good right hand to forestall her running off and finding a doctor in this place. Judging from what he's seen, nobody here comes from a future advanced enough to have Terminators in them. They'd probably do more harm than good.]

The man before her was grievously injured but claimed to need no medical assistance. He had a red eye and metal in his face and were she made of the sensibilities of most women of her era she might have fainted. She almost did anyway, but for the knowledge that things were different here.]
