Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald | Fate/Zero | Seelie
[Taken from one war and led away into another... well, truthfully, after being given some information on the actual mechanics of this war, Kayneth was practically chomping at the bit to fight in it. Other individuals probably weren't quite as thrilled, but to him, this place was practically paradise. No actual reason to keep magecraft a secret, no pointless cultural bankruptcy, and, most importantly, a battlefield filled with soldiers from numerous parallel worlds he'd reached by some sort of Second Magic where he could win glory beyond measure --- and then, he could head back home and win the Holy Grail War.
Well, that was the way he saw it, anyway. Perhaps he should slow down and think about it a little more clearly... but he certainly has something of a spring in his step as he heads from place to place at the feast. Really, the only downside to this was that he was, for quite understandable reasons, lacking in connections --- but given that he could hob with the best of nobs, he'd clearly have no difficulty making them.
So, while he tries to avoid anyone... terribly scruffy looking and wonders what exactly they're doing there, he's perfectly content to strike up polite small talk with anyone who approaches --- though, if he sees anyone Important, he'll be the one doing the approaching.]
The Station
[Well, if Kayneth was going to get anywhere in this world, he was going to have to learn some of the lay of the land... but while he was still enchanted by most of the place, he certainly wasn't enchanted by having to travel everywhere on horseback... and the other options for mounts didn't seem any less temperamental.
...and while he felt as though he should familiarize himself with neutral ground, everything about the Station reminded him of things he certainly didn't miss. About the only thing he was pleased with was the coffee he had taken out onto the patio as he observes the scenery with obvious distaste and plans how he could learn all he needed to know about this place and leave as soon as he possibly could.]
Arrival
The question is one that can wait, though. First, he needs to make sure is Lord is well and knows that he is there to assist him. After all, they are going to win one war back home. Together, they can win the war here as well. Diarmuid closes the distance between them in a blink and then drops to one knee in front of Kayneth.]
You are here, my Lord. Is all well?
no subject
...Lancer. You were brought here as well, then?
[...it was a bit of an obvious statement, but his tone does betray a hint of incredulity. Clearly, whatever magic brought them here severed the connection between Master and Servant, which was... worrying. He didn't actually trust Lancer, and if there was nothing to keep him subservient...
...well, then again, perhaps this could be a chance to see if Lancer actually was interested in making up for that nonsense with Saber. Though, something is bothering him...]
...strange, then, that they'd bring the two of us and not the third. Unless you've seen Sola-Ui about...?
no subject
[Another obvious statement, but Diarmuid says it less to answer his lord's question and more to give himself a moment to wonder about the tone the man's voice. Is he upset about how the fight with Saber went? Of course he is, but surely it is all a misunderstanding and something they can work out with a little effort...
But later, for his Lord has asked a very important question.]
I have not seen nor sensed her since my arrival and that is troubling to me. Does this mean she is alone back home? And, if she is not here and our bond has been severed, how am I remaining manifest?
no subject
you get three guesses and the first two don't count, and he seems very genuinely let down that that's the answer. Really, he can't tell if this is a blessing or a curse, and while he's sure arrangements have been made, he...]
Well, I doubt you'd be able to sense her outside of her providing mana to you in the first place, which doesn't quite seem to be a necessity here. So... there is a possibility.
Nevertheless, rumor says our hosts should give us a satisfactory explanation soon enough on that front, so I suspect we'll all know in due time. In any case, she's an intelligent woman --- I'm certain she can take care of herself.
no subject
[Though, if he is honest, Diarmuid is glad that it seems she is not here. For one, she is probably safer in their base back home. After all, his lord has very thoroughly laid protections around it. In addition to that, Diarmuid has already noticed her paying an odd amount of attention to him. Attention he does not want in the slightest. Better it is only he and his lord here. They will be able to work more smoothly that way.]
She is intelligent and you have set many protections around the hotel. I am sure you are correct. She will be very safe there.
Have you decided on what your first course of action here will be?
no subject
[...he's feeling strangely similar, there. It'd be one thing if Sola had shown up absent Lancer, of course, but...
...something Lancer said... does catch his mind, though.]
...Anyway, I should remind you that even so, our new base was a significant downgrade from the hotel, which should at least make it more difficult to find.
[Why did he call it the hotel, anyway? Did he just... want to refer to it euphemistically? There was a pretty marked hint of venom when he spoke of it, himself, because that had been complete nonsense.]
In any case, our first course of action should be to familiarize yourself with the other members of the court, of course. We're not three against twelve here, and it would behoove us to have a good rapport with our allies.
no subject
[For the first time, Diarmuid lifts his head from his bow, confusion on his face.]
What do you mean 'new base?' Did something happen during the duel with Saber that I did not see?
[As far as he knows, their base is still the hotel. In fact, he was on his way back there from the fight with Saber when he was brought here.]
I have already spoken to a few people. One is a new arrival like me. He is also a Servant, but he seems to have no wish to fight us.
[Indeed, since the other Servant is also a Lancer, Diarmuid suspects that he is from a completely different war than theirs.]
The other I spoke to over my locket. He is also a magus, but it is obvious that he was not being completely truthful with me. He spoke very...positively...about a third faction in this place that is aligned with neither court.
no subject
...hm.]
Lancer, what is the last thing you remember? I'm starting to have some suspicions about how things back home are accounted for, though I'll obviously need that information first.
[... the idea is a bit relieving to him, at least, even though this could just as easily be explained by infinite parallel worlds. Still, he is rarely wrong.]
Anyway... a Servant and a magus? I'm suspecting they aren't aligned with each other, then, if the latter is aware of some sort of third faction the rest of us haven't been informed of yet, but it's always a possibility. I'd suggest you keep an eye on things all the same --- I've been trying to make some early contacts with people from worlds other than ours, since if we're in this for the long haul that's going to be a necessity.
no subject
[Never mind that he had been somewhat distracted by thoughts on how the fight had gone and why his lord had reacted as he did. It is why he did not see the fairy ring until it was far too late to avoid it.]
Why do you ask?
[Diarmuid nods in agreement as he listens to Kayneth detail his plans for getting to know people in the court.]
That was my plan as well. It just so happens the first people I ended up talking to were those from worlds like our own. I believe you are right about the magus and Servant. The magus seemed to have limited knowledge of Servants and the Servant made no mention of a Master also being here. In fact, it is my belief he was pulled from the end of his war.
Have you heard anything about a magus that is bearer of the second iteration of your title? The magus I spoke to said he knew such a person.
no subject
[...there really wasn't any need to mention the tension between the three of them given that he's peeved enough about having to admit any of this, but...]
...and then, infuriatingly enough, whoever initiated the attack went ahead and blew up the hotel. Sola-Ui, you, and I survived intact, but I'm missing practically of my Mystic Codes outside of Volumen Hydragyrm.
So, I'm suspecting, then, that the fact that you appear to have come from an earlier point in time means one of two things. One, it barely, if at all, disrupts our original lives and we return with no hint that we'd left. The other is, of course, theory of parallel worlds, and that is the main point of difference between them.
...well, this seems like a more pleasant fate for a Servant at the end of his war than I might usually think of, though ---
[...wait, what]
An... El-Melloi II, I'm guessing?
[aw man, future children... that could be awkward.]
no subject
[Diarmuid repeats the words, alarm in his voice. Some of his concern is lessened when his lord says that everyone made it out of the hotel safely, but to lose their base and all of its protections so soon...]
If we are from different times, perhaps I will be allowed to remember this when I leave. That way, I can warn my lord...err...you about what will happen. We can hopefully prevent the loss then...
[To be honest, he is not sure if that is possible, but he will hope so anyway. He will do whatever he can do to increase their chances of winning and not losing their base so soon will definitely do that.]
That is correct, though the magus I talked to made it very clear that the one carrying the title is not your child, but another who was picked by the family head to bear it. I can only guess that they decided to pass the title on sometime after we won the war. If that is the case, then that person is from farther in the future than both of us.
no subject
[you're a lucky fucker, alternate Kayneth.]
But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. Though... wait, that isn't my descendant?
[He actually looks a bit peeved about that.]
That isn't particularly encouraging, given that any child of mine should be talented enough to inherit my title. Are you sure he wasn't lying?
no subject
I will make every effort to. Of that, have no doubt.
[Diarmuid considers the question for a moment and then shakes his head.]
I do not believe he was, but at the same time, he also told me to make sure I consider everything I am told here closely before making my decisions. He implied that those who are in charge here are not being completely truthful with us. To be honest, I had the feeling he was trying very hard to encourage more people to whatever this third group is.
no subject
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't --- it's rare to find a person in this world who doesn't have some sort of agenda. ...or any world, for that matter.
Well, regardless, perhaps I should speak to this man and judge for myself, then. Did he show his face at all?
no subject
He did, though there was very little about him that would set him apart from most of the other people here. His most unique feature would be his long brown hair.
[Which, now that Diarmuid thinks on it, might be why the man was so willing to show his face. It's not like his hair was an unusual color or he had horns. There was very little about his looks that would make him stick out in a crowd.]
no subject
[ahahahaha]
For now, though, I'm content to wait until after this feast to track him down. This is in our honor, after all.
no subject
[Diarmuid is far less interested in this feast that is being thrown for them at the moment than Kayneth apparently is. This is certainly not the first feast that has been thrown in his honor, after all.]
In that case, shall I allow you to return to the festivities? I will continue to gather what information I can and will be in touch should I find anything out.
no subject
[this absolutely cannot go wrong at all]
Anyway, most certainly. You're dismissed, then.
no subject
I wish you luck in your search. If you need me at any time, please contact me via the lockets.
[Since their bond has been broken, it is the only way they have that doesn't involve Diarmuid always being at Kayneth's side.]
I will be in touch.
[He gives Kayneth a nod and then disappears into the crowd.]
no subject
[He'll give a brief dismissive wave and head on his own way, then!]
