No need to be nervous. Diaval is always welcome.
[She gave him a quick skim with her eyes to be sure he was not harmed, then moved to walk over to the tree, the edge of a wing brushing him as she passed him.]
Or maybe they enjoy a little pain, leaving you with that mouth of yours as they did.
couldn't resist such a great maleficent
Not everyone is incapable of taking criticism.
[ The pain, in truth, is his. Without his wings his freedom is stripped from him. Without a human voice, his ability to communicate is. Once, he was happy living his life in just one form. But now...now his body is split in half, never quite content with itself. ]
Oh, shh. SHH.
[The tree was her backdrop as she turned back to him, her smile more of a smile than a smirk now as she let him know in her own way that she was pleased to have him here.]
Would you prefer to remain a bird here? I cannot send you back as I cannot even find my own way back to the moors, but I can at least do that much.
If you'd prefer.
I play Diaval, I don't shush :3
[ Knowing that she isn't really like to use her words to express her meaning, he'll take that smile. It's more than he's gotten in the past after all, and it's met with a small smile of his own. ]
I'd prefer things as they were.
[ To be a bird when they travel, when he's on his own, when he doesn't need to speak. And a man for the sole purpose of voicing his opinions, his displeasure, his complaints -- and his support. To be in whichever form is of use, at all times.
Except for any member of the canine family. He would like to go the rest of his life never slipping into such a form again, please and thank you. ]
I.... should have seen that coming
[The odd mix of raven and reptile had formed a special sort of creature that had been her hand of fury when she'd been pinned by iron. Ah, but that had been such a wonderful fight -- not only because she'd been made whole during it.]
Why are you so far from the castle? Were you planning on finding the moors on your own?
you really should've.
And it was nice to be able to fight back against the species so fond of hunting birds, or beating them with sticks for trying to fill their stomachs. ]
Fearsome, yes. But I don't think you'd find a single man died laughing that night.
[ He shrugs at her question. ]
I promised to stay by your side. I didn't realize staying put would have done the trick.
[ Then again, if anyone he knows is special, it's Maleficent. Of course she'd hold a magical shard, he should have known really. At least he's spared having to walk home. How do these humans ever get anywhere? Their forms are painfully slow. ]
Is Aurora here as well?
Clearly I'm a fool.
[A finger came out to tap at his chest, eyes searching his as she tried to see if the fair folk here were speaking truthfully; that they had pieces of something inside them.]
No. Or if she is, I have not seen her.
[And perhaps she'd been looking...]
no such thing is clear to me!
[ He'd sooner believe he's here for her than for some shard and some war between fractions of the fair folk. All he cares about really is that she is here, so here is where he needs to be, simple as that. ]
I wouldn't put too much faith in your memory, it never once remembers 'thank you', 'please', or 'it's so good to see you, I've been lost without you'.
[ The news of Aurora should probably alarm him - either she's surrounded by protectors he wouldn't quickly trust in the moors, or somewhere in this strange realm, lost - but it doesn't, really. He has faith in himself, and more than that - he has faith in Maleficent. ]
Well, I do have a history of finding her. If she's to be found, she won't be missing for long.
[ And if she isn't, they'll simply have to find their way back to her. ]
Aha, now you're being nice
Should I remove that tongue of yours and replace it with wings so you can begin your search? I seem to be remembering now why you weren't human often.
[Magic curled around her fingers as she looked at him, both in question and in jest. She would turn him back to bird soon enough, but not until she was certain he could find his way back to her.]
I'm fickle c:
And yet you always turn me back. [ And not always when he has a report to make. She can't fool him, he knows she loves their banter.
He inclines his head in a symbolic gesture of a bow. ]
Please say you're thinking of apping?
[That curl of magic made its way over to him and wrapped around him to turn that familiar smirking face of his into one with a beak less inclined to be so sassy.]
Search if you like, but I believe I might take a bit of respite.
[She had been flying for the better part of a day, after all.]
I am thinking, yes! especially now you've said that u////u
He makes note of where he's left her so that he will know to return, and takes joy in finally being able to glide across the sky. ]
Well, then here's hoping we both get in =)
Your maleficent is fantastic, I can't imagine her not getting in :3
This is the first time he's had to return to her side a failure, for even he has to admit that in a realm this big, she could very easily have skipped his notice, or simply be somewhere beyond the perimeter he managed to cover. He's not about to lose hope for it, and he hopes the miracle they've experienced when Aurora opened her eyes will keep her from thinking too negatively as well, but even so he isn't looking forward to giving her this bit of news. ]
As is your Diaval. =) I'm still new with her, so I'm a little unsure.
There's a surge of relief at the familiar sound of wings coming closer, one she tries not to show as she waits until he's settled before turning him to a form better suited for relaying news.]
Well? I do hope you weren't off mucking about.
oh, likewise. but for what it's worth, I really like her!
That's your specialty. I haven't found her, but this land is vast. I fear it means little.
[ And fear is a true word to use; he fears for the child. ]
Thank you very much. The feeling is mutual.
We'll merely have to look further. It's not too vast for the pair of us and if she is here...
[If she was here, they would find her and keep her safe.]
thank you very much too <3
[ Despite her own complaints, his voice isn't always used for discontent. He's actually rather content by his life by her side. More than rather, even. ]
♥
Ah, yes. That is why I keep you around. The occasional bit of truth that finds its way out of your mouth amid all the rest of your lies.
♥
[ He gives her a pointed look. In all their time together, he spoke no false words. Lying is a human habit, and no matter what form he wears, he remains a bird.
Sometimes, he thinks they're finally getting somewhere, that at last she's coming to learn to say what she feels and not mask it behind her bravado, that their bond needs not be built on him understanding her despite herself much longer. And then she has to go and say something that sends him back to his first days at her side, to the time when he truly felt the servant that he is.]

[Not entirely true, but she'd been more amused at his reaction afterward, so very offended at being the very creature he despised. Or close to it, anyway.
She had grown in her own way, still growing as for a fair one, she was so very young and prone to learning things the hard way, but... she was learning.]

Now who's stretching the truth?
[ He quirks a brow. He wasn't the one hunted down by those soldiers, the biggest human threat to his health and well being were farmers, and the occasional bored child. He had to suffer that disgusting appearance to bring her enemies to her, and it's not a service he's like to forget or forgive anytime soon. ]

[Tomayto tomahto... But she was grinning as she leaned against the tree, cradled between two branches and playing idly with a leaf.]

[ His face turns into perfect picture of outrage at the very notion. The very thought is enough to make his skin crawl. Must be the flees. ]
Or any other creature that relates to it in any way, they're all vicious, vile creatures who kill birds for joy and praise -
[ And the rant won't really end on its own ]

I can't tell if it's prejudice or envy that spurs you on.
